Doesn't mean the way others do it is wrong. You might find this more pleasing , but the fact is most pet monkeys live a far better life than is possible in the wild. And being gentle with them isn't really necessary as they are extremely tough and even their own mothers bash them around from time to time. Inflicting intentional harm is one thing, but just being a little rough isnt going to hurt one a bit. They are far hardier than a human baby

Even if another troop member took it, it would still die, just slowly from starvation. The new adopted monkey parent will let it cling but not allow it to eat. Any food it tries to get will be taken from it. And pet monkeys sometimes have to be in a cage. You can't just let them run around all the time or they tear things up, get hurt, get lost, and many people over there will kill it on sight because of the damage they do to crops...not to mention tainting water supplies with feces and urine
Although I don't agree with keeping any animal in a cage, I have neighbors, and know many people that keep dogs in cages, etc.....yet I never hear anything said about them. I've been watching these channels for about 5 years now, and as long as it's being fed and taken care of, whether it has to stay in the cage a lot or not, it's still living better than it would in the wild by far.
This is a very uneducated statement. Nothing about being in a wire cage and isolated is better than being with a troop in the wild. This is both an incredibly mentally and physically abusive thing to do to an animal that's very happiness depends on being part of a group, that's DNA is designed to forage, roam and play as part of that group. Would it be better for you to live in the wild, roam free or be locked in a wire bottom cage by yourself? I'm not trying to shame you. I'm trying to educate you. Study after study has shown exactly how damaging it can be for a monkey to be in captivity. The monkey is cute but nothing about the way this monkey is being treated is better than it being in the wild

Most people watching think that everything goes like it does for the troops that are filmed the most, but not so. When you watch the troops that have not been affected by humans, the babies are often killed by moms and males of the troops, the babies are underfed and weaned early, etc. The babies of low ranking moms don't have tbe life spans of baby monkeys that belong to high ranking moms because everything is harder to come by, they're not protected as well, etc.

that's exactly what they do. many do not survive. they are not accepted by the troop. it's pretty violent and cruel to that after they have imprinted on a human. they can't fend for themselves.
