Thanks for the help. Nothing was bent, but by disassembling my toaster with your guidance, must have dislodged crumbs that caused one side not to catch. Saved me $70.00!
Huge thanks to you for making this video. I just fixed our toaster simply by cleaning the contacts that touch when the lever is pressed down. Saves me from buying another toaster!
Cool man, I just fixed mine. The contacts weren't bent, but there were crumbs on the magnets, and I took some fine sandpaper to the contact points, and now I've got both sides working again.
This is the exact problem I'm having with my toaster. Only difference is, that both sides aren't working. First the one side went out and since it's now just me and my husband, I just switched to the other side. But now that side won't stay down, so what to do? RUclips it!! :D Thanks so much for this demonstration. I'm hoping it will work for mine. Ironically, mine's a Hamilton Beach too! Accept it's the white one with different controls. Thank you!!! I'll let you know if this works:)
Just a small heads up and great Vid on your make and model, but some people can have a toaster for years and not get around to lowering the levers without bread or anything in their and it won't lock down and think it is broke, needless to say some models have to have something in the toaster to activate the lock switch. secondly after a fix like your and common sense to test it afterwards and keep a close eye as spreading the metal too much will cause the levers to stay down and not unlatch when heat and time permit which could be a fire hazard, just had to say!
@gavoranges I used needle nose pliers to bend the "V" shaped part closer to the electrical contacts that it has to spread apart. In this case it was towards the front of the toaster that it needed to be bent.
I actually fixed it though. It almost ended up catching on fire a few years later from a bad cord. Not my fault but I threw it in the garbage before it burned my house down. lol.
Hey I know its been like 5 years since you posted this but how did you get off the black knobs? I have a similar toaster but only 2 slices and the knobs won't come off.
I have the exact same toaster, not very old and the problem I have is the 2 slots on the right side don't work. There is no digital reading, no power on that side. I took apart and looks like I need a new circuit board, Does anyone know where I can get parts?
Oops! I was wrong...it's a Cuisinart toaster lol. Well...I'm going to try to fix it anyway! I agree! Why not at least try to fix something before forking the dough out to replace it?? :)
i have the same problem with mine which is an identical 4 slice toaster. as soon as you opened yours up i was like nope and i will be going to argos tomorrow to get a new one which is like £17 and decent brand. so yes i am buying.
+Pat Mcgroin The way you phrased your first comment you were telling me to buy dump it and buy a new toaster, but I fixed it. Sometimes it's not worth the hassle to some to fix it, but it was to me. Saved $50 plus tax. That's approximately £32. Happy toasting.
The knobs just pull off. Pull straight out as to not crack them when removing.

You're welcome. Glad it helped!
Thanks a bunch. Forget the toaster. I dig the kickass drum kit in the background there!!

Thanks man. I had a gimped toaster and saw your video listed in Wired magazine. Appreciate the help. Funny video too..."this stupid thing" lol
Hey! How did you remove the levers to be able to remove the case? Thanks!
I believe they just slip off. Pull outward gently and slowly.
Omg hey dude I just throw my dumb toester bec. Doesn't stay down!!! Now I found your food video!! Thanks
i HAD the single slice version of this and the circuit board fried and now i use a convection oven to toast everything its way better
Thanks much - I shall try this on my mother-in-law's Oster toaster!
Good luck
@jennyganderton
If that's the case try using a really small flat screw driver at one end of the screw.
GOOD JOB. FROM UK
Thanks.
I would of had to buy a new toaster if that were the case with mine. Thanks for watching.
Saved yourself some money too. Thanks for watching.
Cool. I'm glad it helped.
Okay, Drummers should never be allowed inside a toaster - Lol.
I actually fixed it though. It almost ended up catching on fire a few years later from a bad cord. Not my fault but I threw it in the garbage before it burned my house down. lol.
You're welcome. I'm glad it helped. Toast on!
@LdyWolf
Good luck. I hope it works for you.
So how did you get the knobs off? This appear to be essential and must be done before you can pull the top off.
The knobs just pull off. Pull straight out as to not crack them when removing.
At least you tried. Sometimes you just have to buy a new one. Thanks for watching.

My knobs just pulled off without issue.
Michael5029 I have a Morphy Richards and just can't seem to get the knob off without breaking it
paisteboy Michael5029 I have a Morphy Richards and just can't seem to get the knob off without breaking it
Sorry. I'm not familiar with that brand.
paisteboy no worries! thanks! :)
Does any know were to purchase the plastic handle on the arm that use push down on to toast bread?
I have question my toester in my work they have shirt power cord, they wanna make it longer, is it ok? If replace in to a longer power cord?
They make the cords short for safety reasons.

Cool, no more burnt toast.
