Thank you for this video! I ordered a Hello Kitty toaster almost a month ago & it didn’t work. Just unscrewing the bottom & taking the crumb holder out helped it to work thanks to you!
I fixed my toaster by undoing the screws underneath, lifting the body up, and tipping out the crumbs and lumps of dry bread which hadn't been released by removing the two drawers and tipping the toaster upside down. Many toasters are dumped when all they need is a good clean.
Perhaps that’s why I recently found two good toasters in the dumpster, including a double wide slot Black & Decker just yesterday. It’s hard to clean out and the adjustment settings are not visible, but it works. I’ll keep my other narrow double slot Proctor-Silex toaster in storage for when this one quits.
Lucky you--my toaster has no contacts to straighten and the solenoid still doesn't power up. But, I had 3 black cats over the years, and they are the sweetest. It was worth watching just to see yours.
Thanks so much for this video! I now have a working toaster again! There was some gunk in where the round, copper contacts are, & the magnets didn't line up in the other section. Also, the long spring had some gunk within it too. I used a straightened out paperclip to get the stuff out. I watched what was going on while moving the lever up & down when I had it apart. Thanks again!
I have a breville 16 screws on the underside and all not only proprietary but tripod shaped none of my 20 available bits for these proprietary screws will fit. I can still manually remove them by applying a flathead with alot of torque so as not to strip the screw heads but that will take ages. my next anticipated problem will be the flippers, they look like they've been moulded into place. the manufacturer really doesn't want me opening up this toaster it's so much work might have to just buy a new one, the problem is probably something simple like crumbs stuck on the magnet, I've already shook the life out of it to no avail so it's either but a new one or put a weight on the flipper for each use
I was a bit reluctant to buy an "off brand" toaster, but the reviews on this one led me to take a chance.I was very pleased! ruclips.net/user/postUgkxE7HOOpW0eh4vbVGAB_r_cURwoxZxpZPA The toast comes out evenly browned and I was surprised that the sides of the toaster do NOT get hot to the touch which is a great safety feature.I like the additional buttons for frozen foods, the emergency eject button, and the warming rack for rolls and other items. All in all, it was a good purchase and at the right price. Sure you can get fancier toasters, but for a premium price. This fulfills the basic duties of a toaster at a reasonable price.
I gave it an thumb up. The part about the solenoid was good. I'm disassembling the one I bought used 17 years ago at the thrift for another tweak to keep it going. But the lever catch from too much manual ejection may show it is just worn out.
Your kitty is the star! Photobombed! I am not sure about taking apart my toaster, but may give it a try. I will have to throw it away and get a new toaster anyway.
Thank you man! This helped a lot thabk youuuuu in my case it wasnt that the current wasnt flowing but bread crumbs had accumulated on the magnet making it useless and i cleaned em off and it started working again! Just saved me a few bucks thanks a lot dude!
Thanks for trying and figuring it out. I got a new one at walmart for now 10.00 add to me thas a pain and i don't mess with electrical things. Your brave
Just took mine apart with my cat on the counter supervising 😂 had a hell of a time reassembling (I know, the parts couldn't be simpler) plugged it in with no success. ❤mopping the mess with the bread 😂😂
Yup i have the same problem 🤣 mine won’t stay down either, but i think the problem is different though because my mom brute forced it down because it usually had this problem of hitting a snag at the start, so she just murdered it, but i’ll try to do some CPR on it to see if i can’t revive it again 😁
@@jaileal8806 Yeah i tried taking it apart, i couldn’t find out what the problem was even though my suspicion were the same so i bit the bullet and just bought a new one 😁
I have just fixed mine. The problem were crumbs that have fallen on to small electro magnet, which prevented it to make the connection with the upper part. Btw it only works when the power is on.
Since you only have 107 comments during the past four years you may not check to see if someone like me left a message for you. But, I'll leave one anyway and either you or someone else can tell me how to fix my problem with my exact same toaster you have. Thanks. Also, that's a physically and spiritually/emotionally beautiful cat you have and we all can see how well you feed it and take care of it. And I can see you even give it some vegetable oil for its coat to stay looking like that millionaire's wife's mink coat :-) I just paid $4 at Goodwill for a toaster exactly like the one you have. BUT the problem with mine is 100% different from the problem you had with your toaster. The toast won't pop up at all no matter what the temperature setting is set at. I took it apart and looked at the circuit board and mechanical moving parts but did not see anything damaged. BUT, just after watching you bend back those electrical contact bars correctly which now allows the electrical current to go to the electromagnetic holding device which then holds the toast holder down while being toasted, it seems to me that the problem with my toaster is that those same electrical contact bars may be bent causing that switch to stay on and not turn off when the heat increases enough, according to the temperature setting. Thanks for showing us how you repaired your toaster because by doing that you probably just helped me figure out how to fix the problem with my toaster. THANK YOU ! Also, please keep in mind the next time you get another cat (whenever after you lose this one) you need to get two cats so that they can enjoy each other's company and entertain each other whenever you leave your house or apartment. Maybe you do have another cat but your cat appears to be so bored that it needs to check out and sniff every single new thing it sees on your table or anywhere else in your apartment or house. And what makes me believe I know what I'm talking about here? Because I also had a black cat, not that that's relevant, and it was the only cat living with me. It did NOT enjoy being by itself all day for eight hours while I was at work five days a week. A cat does NOT like being locked up and contained in the same space/area day after day by itself for eight hours a day. Basically, it is very cruel to do that to cats. Just imagine you, yourself, being locked up in your apartment with absolutely nothing to do for eight hours a day. Yeah, that'll ruin your personality too.
@@NickMakesBreaksStuff It worked! The contact points (one of the two sets) was dirty and black, other set looked perfectly fine... Cleaned dirty ones with Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol, sanded lightly with 600 grit sandpaper, then cleaned again... Put it back together and voila! 😃👍 Thanks Nick!
There is nothing wrong with wanting to fix your stuff instead of throwing it in the trash. We ended up giving it to a friend who needed a toaster, it is still in use years after this repair was done.
its amazing that people take the time to make these videos and don't give a comprehensive summary of the problem beforehand, leaving one to guess if there is power to the toaster, how the problem started, age of the product etc.
This video was not meant to be a product failure analysis. I had a broken toaster. I took it apart, discovered a problem, explained what I saw and how I fixed it, and then I put it back together. If you didn’t find this video helpful, sorry.
It's a toaster, not a complex, expensive piece of machinery. The lever would not stay down and therefore the bread would not toast. It is a very common problem! I think he gave a fairly good explanation. But all those tiny screws might defeat me! I don't have a power screw driver or drill unfortunately.
You didn't have to reassemble the toaster to see if you fixed it. Not a lot of danger there unless you stick your finger in it. Then if you hadn't fixed it you might see what else was causing the problem. Also, if you're a tinkerer, you should have a short extension cord so you can move the toaster about so you and we (the camera) can also see.
Turn! absolutely hasty! Clean the toaster first, yes? Raisins, maybe. Roaches, more likely. Then you had the cat talk over the toast. Finally, brush the crumbs onto your lap and the floor! WOW
or just buy a nice new toaster and prevent getting electrocuted or starting a fire the next time you use it, you can get a cheap one for about £10, good video though - love the cat
There is a magnet inside and it only works when the toaster is plugged in. You seem to have hit the issue with this one but there see to be many more things that can go wrong . Clean your tray!
I bought two brand new toasters. Neither of them would stay down, right out of the box. We make junk now. When i say right out of the box I mean exactly that.
Your problem is obvious. The cord is too short. LIke me, just start ripping it apart and hope for the best. Contrary to modern toaster theory THEY DO NONOT NEED a computer board. BTW the cat was just in her litter box before you let her paw your bread. Wait until the bread is toasted? For real? Yep. Did you eat that? Oh man, the cat wiped her feet on it. Too funny. My toaster is I don't know how old 10 15 years, 20. PC board goes out in yours, the whole thing is toast.
Thanks Nick! 👍You are right! Why buy a new one, when you can easily fix the old? I love your kitty! 🥰

Yes, black cats are awesome! Mine is very loving, but also extremely mischievous.
U clean table with pice of bread omg
It's a professional cleaner's trick! Just like using sawdust to clean a floor. Look it up!
I'll try cleaning and checking contacts on my Rowenta, which has the same symptoms. But best part was the cat. My cat perked up when hearing yours!
Always remember to feed your cat before starting repair work lol
