- Walking through History: Hiking the Ancient Imbros Gorge in Crete, a great alternative to Samaria Gorge.
Take a virtual hike with unique drone and 360 footage, through the spectacular Imbros Gorge. It is one of the deepest and narrowest gorges of Crete. Its walls rise vertically 300 metres high and its width does not exceed 2 metres at places.
It begins south of Imbros village and ends at the village of Komitades, near Frangokastello.
The walk down the gorge is easy and can be done almost throughout the year.

Ωραίος! Τελικά η 360 βγάζει ωραιο αποτέλεσμα. Και σε συνδυασμο με το FPV δένουν σχετικά καλά τα πλάνα. 👍 Είχα περάσει το φαράγγι της Σαμαριάς το 1998. Την επόμενη αυτό. Καλή συνέχεια!
Πρώτη φορά τη δοκίμασα. Θέλω να δουλέψω στο ομαλό keyframing και πιστεύω θα είναι καλύτερα. Ευχαριστώ!
Years ago I walked the Imbros Gorge many times. At the resting place you would find two brothers ,who were rangers in the Gorge. They would sell you coke (which was red wine!) or lemonade (raki!), it certainly helped finishing the walk even if a bit wobbly. Thanks for the great video of happy times.

We were in Crete last week, had considered this walk but didn't do it in the end - regretting it now, because in your footage it looks much cooler than in any of the pictures I had seen before! I like the green animation snake thingies though! :)

Εξαιρετικός! Κάνε και το Κυδωνι/Μποριανα στο μελλον. Ειναι ισως το πιο ομορφο φαραγγι που περασα στο νομο Χανίων και ειναι αρκετα underrated.

We usually hike in La Palma but have just got back from a hiking week in Crete. The routes we hiked were inspired by your video's. It was awesome and we cant thank you enough for the content. We are heading to Madeira next (following your video😊) we are not you tubers, so dont need drones etc, but if you could take just one camera with you on a walk which would it be?

Thank you for your comment! You will love Madeira! If i had back then my new 360, that's the one i would take with me for sure. If you don't have a 360, any camera will do. A zoom lens would help to some epic shots.

We are going to hike in Eastern Crete in October 2023. These are the things that are on our list so far: Zakros gorge, Pelekita cave, Imbros, Kamares cave, Perivolakia gorge, Milonos gorge, and maybe Hohlakies gorge. Any hikes you would recommend in Eastern Crete that are not mentioned here? Do you have any videos from Eastern Crete, or any hikes from the Lassithi plateau that you recommend?
Thank you Karl! I am not so familiar with eastern Crete. Been there 3-4 times and done a few hikes but my knowledge is limited. I would love to do Sarakina again (first time it was dry). Milonas we have seen the waterfall ruclips.net/video/Md7LLlWcRwU/видео.html
but not the gorge. Only through drone. Rihtis is short and fun. Also have read about the trail of Dikti when it comes to Lasithi. And lastly, Spathi peak. of Dikti. never done it [have done Spathi (means sword) of the White Mountains which i love] but never the one in Lasithi.

Hi... nice shots with your drone. Few questions... are drones allowed in Imbros..??? I remember reading somewhere that there are forbidden in Samaria gorges... Also at what point did you get back to the car..??? How do you get back to the car if you walk all the way...??? Thanks. Philip
Thank you. It's true in Samaria they are not allowed. Haven't seen such a sign in Imbros so far. We turned back to the car once we reached the arch. About 5km from where we parked. If you go all the way, you can ask at the taverna for taxi. Make sure you asked other hikers you will meet there, in order to share the cost.

Ευχαριστώ Dejan! Όχι, αν δεν γυρίσεις πίσω, τελειώνεις στο χωριό Κομιτάδες. Από εκεί γυρνάς με ταξί πάνω, ή hitch hike ή σε περιμένει το λεωφορείο αν έχεις πάει με τουριστικό γραφείο. Το φέρυ το έδειξα για να συγκρίνω με Σαμαριά. Πως ο Ίμπρος είναι πιο εύκολος και πιο γρήγορος.

Thank you for your comment. Technically you can take the Sfakia bus and hop off at the entrance of the gorge. To return you would have to walk back to main road from Komitades village at the exit of the gorge, to the main road where the bus from Sfakia will be returning from. You would be better off buying an organized excursion. You can text me on instagram in case you need help.
Hello from Buffalo, NY. I’ve been watching your videos in prep for my 3 week trip to Crete next month. They are excellent, thank for making them! Do you offer consulting services for planning hiking logistics? We are staying in Paleochora for 5 days and had planned to do Aradena perhaps Samaria. Is this even feasible from Paleo?

Well I don't offer any kind of service but would be glad to help. From Paleohora you can buy a trip to Samaria as far as I know. Probably a bus takes you to the entrance and at the end in Agia Roumeli you get it the ferry to Sougia and Paleohora. I wish you do Aradena too. Maybe you take the ferry to Hora Sfakion and from there a taxi to Aradena bridge. Then you enjoy Marmara beach before you walk to Loutro to take the ferry back to Paleohora. Of course this needs some coordination and to be sure about ferry timetable. But I think it's possible.
