  • One of the best hikes in Crete, is according to my opinion Vrissi gorge. I haven't met anyone so far who even knows about it. I visited Vrisi gorge 5 times so far and never met a single person on the path. In this video you can find directions if you are interested in visiting it. If you have some question, feel free to ask in the comment section.

    It's a very nice gorge, I hiked it last year (2022) from Lakkio to Zourva. Your video of the first part is very good, it explains every difficulty and the right way to go. My son and I found this gorge much better than Samaria, which we consider a highway for tourists. The trail in second part is well marked, obvious and less difficult. At the end, coming onto the main road, we went left to Café Zourva Rizinia (drinks and food available). It has a fine panoramic view, you can see Lakkio in the distance.

      I love Vrisi. Visited Zirinia a couple of times too. Samaria attracts a lot of people. I understand many want a safe environment. :) You can have a look at my video with my favorite hikes for ideas next time. I plan to make more videos about the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) too. I got obsessed since last summer. Thank you for your comment. :)

      @@THATGREEKGUY_ Thanks for your reply and I'm looking forward to more video's.
      In the last three years, we've hiked some other gorges (Imbros, Aradena, Agia Irini, Diktamos, Deliana-Rokka, Lissos, Anidri), some parts of the E4-trail from Chora Sfakia to Paleochora, we climed some mountains close to the Omalos plateau (Gigilos, Melidou) and we went up & down the Samaria gorge (not in the same year). Hope to clime Psiloritis this year.

  • @Donszczeniako1

    We just did that trail yesterday ( 29/04/2024 ) and we do not recomment this trail at all. There is a reason why this path is hidden from public and that reason is danger and risk.
    It does not look like a hiking path, but instead a path made for the maintenance of the pipes that feed the water to the village.
    Through all trail you need to keep 100% focus under your feet as there is no marging or error as you are walking on extremely narrow, very damaged path on great hights, which is also covered in loose gravel. The few sketchy parts mentioned in the vide are not fun sketchy - the last one is around 5 meter traverse on sliding gravel on a very high angle that leads directly down the canyon from the highest point of the trail. Your feet slip and that is it - no chance to save yourself as there is nothing to grab exept gravel.
    As you constantly walk in very dangerous conditions, looking at your feet all the time, you dont even experience the scenery around you.
    In short, the trek is very difficult, very risky and at the end not worth it at all.
    We are couple of 30+ years old experienced hikers/climbers with above average fitness, and we decided to leave that comment for people to not get into that trap.
    The hardest and riskiest parts are at the very end of the trail, so people will try to cross them even more, ignoring the risk.
    In 2024, there is no spring and no water at the end, so there is no satisfaction of completing the path. All you will find are pipes comming from the cave that is made to collect the water for the village.

    • @THATGREEKGUY_
      @THATGREEKGUY_  4 месяца назад

      I agree that there are some tricky parts but didn't see anything risky at the end to be honest. I don't think it's "unknown" because it's dangerous. It's just off the beaten path and people usually go to the more popular ones. There are gorges i wouldn't recommend at all without a guide, like Klados and Tripiti. I find Lefka Ori (outside of E4 parts) more dangerous than this. I appreciate the opinion and the feedback.

      There are many other options in Crete. You can skip this hike. :)

  • @FTUUT
    @FTUUT Год назад

    I will preface this by saying I was never afraid of heights until yesterday. Yesterday we hiked the Lakkoi -Vrysi - Zourva and I will NEVER do it again under any circumstances.
    The risks outweigh everything( view, scenery). For the majority of the path you are hiking in a narrow path alongside a cliff. If you slip and fall, there is no way you can make it alive, because of the extreme height. Unfortunately this happened
    to a hiker who lost her life in 2017 at the path to Zourva and there is monument in the path. There are many other well-maintained paths to explore in Chania, why choose this?
    I believe it was stupid of us to complete this path, as we couldn't bring ourselves to return to lakkoi and face the same sketchy parts.
