My father had a Hiller C Model that he bought at military auction in 73 for about $2000. He rebuilt it in the driveway of our home that had a vacant lot next to it that we owned on the edge of the desert in Desert Hot Springs. On the day of the maiden flight, we put the wheels on the skids and wheeled down the driveway and onto the lot, he started it up, and took off over the desert. No city ordinances prevented it, so we were perfectly legal. He later outfitted it for crop dusting, got his pest controllers and other required certs, and began crop dusting in the Imperial Valley. Fun times. Learned to hover, transition in and out of ground effect, but never pursued a license. He eventually sold it to two brothers that later crashed it, killing them both. When he was crop dusting, he piloted the Hiller, Stearmans and Ag Cats. The Hiller was fun to fly with the exception of the collective not being hydraulically assisted. Back in those days it was a family operation and my brother and I were flaggers for him and his other pilots. The restoration was a ton of work stripping paint around every rivet and prepping the surface for paint. He rebuilt the engine and magnafluxed all critical parts as he also had his A&P mechanics ratings. He has since passed on and I just wanted to see some here on RUclips. Very nice looking Hiller you have there! Thanks for sharing!
Learned to fly in the Hiller OH23 at Fort Wolters TX, soloed Nov 1965 and ended up getting just over a 100 hours in it before leaving for advanced flight training at Fort Rucker. I will always remember trying to hover this bird but once you learned to hover the rest was a piece of cake.
This is my brother's Hiller. The previous owner was not very honest about the condition at the time of sale so he has basically rebuilt everything over the past two years. He has the shorter skids on it now and the extended range fuel tanks.
@alienelk >>> The fuel tank for the Hiller is in the fuselage, correct? I've seen a couple of Hillers over the decades, and actually flew in one {as a pax} sometime around 1980 - 1982. That is about all the experience I have around Hillers.
Done quite a bit of flying in a Hiller 12E. In many ways, I thought it was a bit better behaved then Bell 47G.The Bell47 was a smoother machine to fly in I felt.
At Ft. Wolters, they had a few Hillers left in 1971 but mostly the Hughes 55 was the primary trainer by that time. There were also quite a few Bell 47s too.
Am i right in thinking on this type of Hiller the main blades only change pitch collectivly NOT cyclicly. for directional flight the whole rotor disc is tilted by the the paddles set at 90 deg attached to the hub and its these paddle blades change pitch cyclicly.
am i right in th I believe with these type of hillers the main rotor blades do not change pitch cyclicly only collectivly. the whole rotor disc is tilted by the cyclic angle of the paddles attached to the hub.
I get nervous when I see a fully-assembled helicopter on a trailer, period. It's murder on the main rotor hub and bearings to haul a helicopter over the public highways with rotor blades attached.
.... Hope you're trying to be funny here... I've soloed in the Oh-23 Hiller back at Ft Wolters, TX in '68 and have 110 hours of student pilot time while going through US Army rotor-wing flight school (4th WOC, Yellow hats).... It's a fantastic trainer proven by the many hundred of thousands of flight hours placed on them... MY favourite light helicopter.... That was 51 years ago and I'd climb into one TODAY, given the opportunity... Gordon in Maryland

alienelk its a great looking little machine, thanks for sharing.
A seller in the helicopter world not being honest?? No wayy!!! 😂😂
Nice looking Hiller, we just finished a four year restoration on a C model.
I flew in a Hiller 12 E in Chile my country in 1977. Also in a Bell both helicopters were from the air force and today they are in the museum.
I currently work for Hiller in California. It's a pretty forgiving aircraft.
Klay Pgande work for Hiller??? Do you mean work on Hiller’s
Vertical_SC Yup for Hiller the Killer. 😀

Excellent film footage.
IT's amazing guys, .congratulation
I heard the main rotors on this Hiller Raven are fixed pitch. Don't know if that's true.
How do you like the flybar setup over say the bell 47 with the stabilizing bar.
Beautiful take off and nice landing......👍👍👍👍👏👏👏

Thanks.
Neat, slim, smart❤
Quanto custa um desse helicóptero? Obrigado.
dependendo do modelo, mas algo como isso é em torno de 60.000 a 70.000 dólares, dependendo do país e as condições do helicóptero
Muito legal parabéns amigo
Is this hiller the next model after the bell sioux helicopters production?
am i right in th

Isn’t a little Wendy for that birdie ?? Hmm
Is She better than the Robinson?
Sounds like a.huey flying overhead
What a wonderful calm landscape. Suitable for adding some horrible nosie to show who is the boss !
Good job
Sister to the Bell 47.....Hiller helo.....
I was thinking how do they get off her from trailer and put her on the ground !!! Am not I a genius ? 😬😂
Stihl brush cutter
No way would be in a flying machine that uses a belt to power a tail rotor, nope not me , nor a clutch , nice vlog , thanks BigAl California.
The belt runs the generator/alternator. The tail rotor is run by a drive shaft.
@@alienelk fact... I wrote Planning for these guys in the early 80s
