Oppo Find X7 Ultra vs Vivo X100 Pro: Camera Shootout in the City

  • I took the Oppo Find X7 Ultra and Vivo X100 Pro out for a day of shooting around Hong Kong. Both phones bring awesome camera systems with a 1-inch main sensor and a really good zoom lens -- or in Oppo's casem two zoom lenses. The Find X7 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the Vivo X100 Pro runs on the Mediatek Dimensity 9300.
The Find X7 Ultra uses the new Sony LTY-900 1-inch sensor for main camera, while the X100 Pro brings back the 1-inch IMX989.

    • @TheWertiup
      @TheWertiup 5 месяцев назад

@@A_Lovely_Fat_Little_Baby It is quite a solid phone. Cameras are for the most part consistent between the cameras and between shots. But it sometimes does overexpose shots.
Main camera is good. The different focal length sensor crop options are well processed but not drastically better than other phones.
Telephoto camera is really good for macro and portrait photos. Longer zooms (10x or more) look sharp at a glance, but when zoomed in you can see the very heavy processing.
Ultrawide is above average (better than iPhone 15 and Honor Magic 5 Pro) but I wished they used a bigger sensor.
Battery is quite good, but the camera does drain the battery relatively fast.
Other than that, it's the standard Vivo experience. HDR look for photos, solid night mode, Funtouch OS (it does feel abit dated), loud speakers, good haptics, top heavy phone.
Hopefully software updates will improve the occasional overexposure and the heavy processing of longer range zooms. But overall it's the best camera experience I've had on a phone by quite a distance.

Despite Oppo having two hardware advantages over Vivo such as using a Snapdragon ISP and a newer version of the Sony 1" IMX989 (LTY900), Vivo still comes out ahead/on-par in 1x photos which is surprising. Both phones are still new, so it's not like one has had 1 year's worth of optimizations and firmware updates over the other. It looks like Vivo has better image processing thanks to their custom V3 chip and improved Zeiss T* coating which is making an all-round noticeable difference - your previous comments about them being the king of HDR still hold true. It's also approx $200 cheaper to import at the moment and most reviewers report longer battery life on it, plus I prefer the smoother zoom transitions on the Vivo across both photos and videos.

    Hey Ben,
usually, I don't leave comments; I'm more of a silent participant and always drop a like for your excellent - and as you often mention, very elaborate - work. But in this case, I feel the need to speak up:
Because of you, I not only became a big Vivo fanboy, but it's thanks to you that I got to know Vivo in the first place! With the X80 Pro, I took the plunge, and even today, this model can easily compete with the latest iPhone (or anything from Samsung) - not only in terms of the camera. Rarely have I come across less biased and such high-quality reviews as yours. So, a big thank you for your work. Keep it up!
By the way: A direct comparison of these two devices in terms of software, display, and overall performance (aside from the camera) would also be very desirable. Especially the X7's display seems to be a bit better... Thank you ;)

Thanks for the comparison Ben! Disappointing that the 6x zoom isn't any better than vivo's. If you have spare time could you make a comparison on IG between the oppo Master mode vs the vivo vintage filter? Heard great things about the look of the master mode resembling hassleblad X2D camera. Cheers

Apologies Ben, have found your reviews unbiast & very helpful.
Really like that you review so many different devices, some of which are not generally reviewed in the Uk as not sold in the shops, or on phone contract. So buy online direct.
With your excellent reviews and reving these 2 devices, it gives me much more choice.
Much appreciated for the time and effort put unto these videos, thank you.

Thank you Ben for the nice and honest reviews!
I am also in Hong Kong and I was looking to take one of those 2 excellent phones.
After this review I feel that Vivo x100 pro has some important pros!
    1. Comes with Google services while oppo is not. This is important for me as I am going to live in Europe soon.
    2. There are less lenses but Vivo keeps up with good computational photography in digital zoom.
    3. Larger battery capacity in the same weight. I didn't see any test on battery life but I guess that could easily give couple of minutes more battery life.
    The oppo seems to have:
    1. better screen quality
    2. Additional physical lens
    3. 4K selfie video ( for me is not important)
    4. Gorilla glass victus ( vivo seems to have no screen protection -please correct me if I am wrong-)
    5. A bit of extra zoom

Great video Ben. I've waited for this comparison. I'm a Vivo X80 Pro user but the X7 Ultra intrigued me. I think the Vivo camera experience (app features & UI) is very fun and creative.
How do feel about the fun/creative factor between the two?
PS: I trust your video more than other channels. I bought X80 Pro because of your video.

Ben, been subbed for a while love your reviews. I would love just that bit more if there was a dedicated cityscape or landscape photography using max resolution (50 -> 200mp). It is my main draw to phones like this. I'll quite happy set up my mini gorilla pod and take 2-3 minutes tweaking the settings to get a nice crisp high resolution shot. Also using the pro controls to lock exposure through shutter speed & iso so that you can take multiple shots to make a panorama post spec.
I also think this would help you to differentiate the capabilities of phones more. Most phones from the last 3 or 4 generations are incredibly capable when taking a point and shoot binned down photo. My P20 Pro is still perfectly acceptable. When I put it in 40mp mode however and compare it to the 50mp of a pixel 8 pro though, it's chalk and cheese, oil and water, night and day.

Very good comparison! I confess that I expected more from Oppo with the famous Sony LYT-900 lens. Vivo has really evolved a lot in recent years, being on par with its main competitors. My final opinion is that we still need to improve, especially in stabilization and the front camera, always falling short of iPhones and Galaxys.

Lots of Love Ben, for producing such great videos !! Dont let those comment trolls disharden your passion ! It's probably fair to say that the Oppo still offers value for money. Vivo, Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor etc, offer the same for a premium. In the end each user has to decide and find out for themselves what works for them. I moved from Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra to Oppo Find X6 Pro and now to X7 Ultra. In time future phones will be better obviously, but again it's all a matter of the budget, the phone you upgrade from etc.

2:00 so I had concluded that the oppo find X7 was going to be my new camera phone until I saw this shot..VIVO is not playing with their filter and overall composition. It is actually very difficult to choose between these two juggernauts
