Xiaomi 14 Ultra is the best device to capture moody image at the moment.
The pics in the Xioami and the Fujifilm look similar and have the camera look but the HDR of the Vivo resembles more of the human eye during the day. Our eyes have a high dynamic range
Fuji has multiple HDR settings in the camera menu. I love this guy but he should not review cameras because basically he doesn't know anything about photography and it is insulting to some extent
The Vivo is made more for social media where higher color range is better I think that also the good illumination for the 1inch sensor gives an edge both the camera and the Xiaomi, yeah you can adjust ISO but it might look off
The difference is that smartphone high dynamic range looks fake because it is ultimately a blend of multiple exposures. Those Fuji files hold a lot of information that you need to recover later to get VERY natural photos with really high dynamic range. Many people don't want to do that work and a phone is perfect for them. Many others love the process, and to them, a phone will always be inferior because a smartphone photo looks artificial
x100 Pro is just a beast, absolutely love mine, especially that telephoto. The macro shots ive gotten so far with it have blown me away. My main camera is the A7C but having this phone on me at all times is such a huge benefit.
I'm a professionnal photographer with om system for 15 years and I find this review very interesting, for the first time I want to change my lg v20 for this 14 ultra it has everything. I'm from Europe but even the price I need one, the xiaomi match with fujifilm quality image. Thanks for this !
If you had to pick one between the Vivo, Xiaomi and OPPO, which would you choose. Specs on paper say that the OPPO should be as good if not better than either the Vivo or the Xiaomi.
@@joshuabergeman354 I would go OPPO for this reason. Yes, it does have the better hardware but another thing is even without a global version it's just like picking up a OnePlus phone as far as the software in the USA. The vivo's value is going to be tough to beat though.
@@BarryJohnson the similarly to OnePlus is why I ended up deciding on the OPPO. If I'm spending north of $1,000 I would like to know that I can enjoy the software as much as the hardware. And while I know that the OPPO doesn't have a global rom I don't really need that.
In the 90s living in the OC, California, I owned a Minolta 35mm with a 50mm lens, bought and developed my Fuji film at Savons. Always chose the 5x7 photo prints. The best prints. I have hundreds of photos.
As you said, the reason why the camera looks worse than the phones is due to phones post processing shots the same moment the picture is taken, while with the camera you're forced to do it afterwards. The advantage the camera has is being way easier to have its photos post processed, because they come out in much better quality, allowing the user to edit any mistakes. Unless you blow out the highlights, you can fix basically anything else you don't like. Some people may prefer a phone, others may prefer a camera. But it's up to the user to decide what tool they wish to use to produce his or her art.
@@spirittravels. I've seen comparisons between cameras and phones done by professional photographers before, but I've not seen any of the Fuji X100 VI yet. I hope someone makes one soon.
You said camera files are much easier to post process but all these phones should have RAW file output too. They're not just stuck with the processed jpg.
Only if we talk about phone's main camera, when we switch to ultra wide, telephoto or macro lenses area then phone looks really bad against dedicated camera.
@@PatrickWithCamera not with the ultimate new phones, like Vivo x100 pro, Oppo Find x7 Ultra and Maybe S24 Ultra. In the future the best phones will come with amazing 3 main cameras, 1 inch sensor or, like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra Photo add, with switch lenses.
@@linkfucho When it happens that all 3 lenses will be 1 inch then I will agree, but it will take time, because now we are at wall with size of the optics to achieve this. Only 23-25mm can be bright aperture and cover 1 inch sensor while keeping compact size, anything wider or longer than that is impossible for now. I would exclude samsung, they are a bit behind oppo and vivo.
Thanks for keeping it real, Ben. I am old enough to have used film cameras, in the days before smart phone cameras. Fuji's retro design and IU took many of us back to those days, even before the Instagram fame of the x100V. I have the X100S, which feels very slow these days, as phones have improved so much! Phone prices came down with economies of scale of manufacturing but cameras don't sell as many units these days. Sorry but I am not going to pay extra for a cult camera!
This was a very interesting comparison, and it shows how the image processing target a certain look (I wouldn't even be surprised if the ML models have been literally trained like this): in this case Xiaomi 14 Ultra targeting a "straight out of a camera" look while the Vivo targets a "post processing HDR look". One thing I would love to see in a single phone camera app is the ability to choose between these looks: "raw", "SOOC", "Post HDR" instead of having to pick a phone to have a single look.
Totally agreed, it's making me extremely torn between choosing either the Xiaomi 14 Ultra or the Vivo X100 pro because I like both of those styles and would like to be able to pick and choose which scenarios I shoot with a particular style
I have owned the Vivo X100 PRO 2 months and I can say that it is a complete phone. The pictures come out sensational, every picture is perfect - simply put. My friends can't believe the photos are coming from the phone. Processor top, battery top, range top. The price from china is very low, I managed to buy for about 500 euros from aliexpress with shipping to europe. I owned flagships from Oneplus before but decided to try something new, I was mainly convinced by the 1 inch sensor, mediatek processor and overall build quality. The system itself has a ton of settings, it is much more powerful than funtouch (European version)
I gave up all my dslr and mirrorless in my dry box. I agree with you, mobile phones have much more functions than a single camera. For now it is hard to tell which is which in social media. I am glad the camera are excellent in mobile phones, it is so nice to bring it everywhere to shoot especially I am a father, mobile phone is light and handy and most important it I can share the pics at once. You should have also pointed out that dedicated cameras can also shoot RAW-format which allows you to have better control over the look of your photos in post processing. You could edit all the images you shot with Fuji to look basically the same as the phone pics.
You think its possible in the future to add one day/night raw shot? Because stuff like over- and underexposure could be easy fixable in Lightroom. Like what the vivo is balancing pretty well. Or to see if even in raw a phone fails and capturing overblown LED/Skys with enough data when you drag the highlights down.
@@bensgadgetreviews totally understandable, keep up the good work ben! I always go first to you when I wanna know about pure photo tests. Compared to those very scripted other tech bloggers that can't compete with the vivid environment where you live. I 1000% agree. And one thing you didnt mention is you can also shoot raw and use pro modes on the Xiaomi / Vivo if you want to cater your shot to a certain look. I own a separate camera but as smartphones (specifically chinese ones) get better it makes me not want to use my camera. Thanks for the nice video and your kind way to show, explain and compare the tech facts. I was suprised about the good performance of the vivo in hard situations. a few years ago nobody had expected that smartphones come that close to real cameras.
That's so true Ben, smartphones are really being taken for granted cause we've gotten so used to having the best of them around... You definitely didn't get the best out of the 14 ultra too, that beast is a photographer's choice... Using automatic doesn't do it justice, it's the amateurs mode...
What holds Xiaomi back is that they removed the possibility of forcing the HDR while taking a picture. The auto detection is terrible. It's kinda weird, because I can literally force HDR and Dolby Vision while recording a video, but geez I can't force HDR while taking pics?
I really enjoy your videos. It feels like an honest, real review. Like stuff I would do to compare phones and decide which one is best for me. Thank you, Ben
I have the vivo x100 pro and thinking about returning it right now. The ultrawide camera is really bad and the main camera can't do any close-ups without loosing details. Lots of unnatural bluriness around the image (not talking about bokeh now). It's more miss than hit for close-ups. It is the big sensor and optics. The main camera is just excellent when shooting from say 0,5m or more. The telephoto is great for what it is, good also for outdoor macro shots. I need to shoot lots of close things and text and it is not possible. Impossible to shoot simple text on A4 letter. It has strange uneven and artificial bluriness, 2x on main doesn't help much and you loose details. It makes strange halo around paper edges and other objects too. Ultrawide takes the close shot fine, but looks very noisy and worse than my huawei p20. I expected more, It doesn't work for me, I'm dissapointed.
@@Giorgiio69 That's why I think they should use something other for close-up shots instead of the useless ultrawide camera with poor quality. It could have been a great phone! :( I have just returned it.
The only thing I wish to get an update/fix on is the front camera HDR in indoor lighting. It tends to overexaggerates the brightness and shadows to the extreme, making naturally lit indoors like night, and making brightly lit spots and windows look like the sun.
I just got the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, S24 Ultra, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and I have a whole load of "proper" cameras. Agreed on the value you get from smartphones, but sometimes you just want a device which only does one thing! But loving the photos out of the Xiaomi, more so than the Samsung S24 Ultra, I would say.
Those Xiaomi 14 ultra photos are in vibrant or authentic? One thing to note: my Xiaomi 13 ultra (haven't take the 14 ultra out if the box yet) has vintage filters, a Kodachrome filter and what i think is a fujifilm filter, also.
If you open the camera app in the lower right-hand corner you will see a star. Press on the star and the first filter it says is original. Then after that there are several lack of filters including the black and white. Then after that KC64 I believe is the Kodachrome filter. There's one that starts with f. I think f50. But there are some other filters in addition to these if you continue to play with the phone app you will find them.
Great test! Thanks a lot. I think all devices have great photo quality but the photos look very different. The Fujifilm has some kind of vintage art look. It also produces a darker image. The image is natural with but has a less contrasty 3D look to it. It has the most details because of bigger sensor and a good lens. I think lots of real photographers love this "vintage art style" look. The Xiaomi goes also in that direction, but has less detail and also more processing. It is less natural than Fujifilm but has also these vintage colours Leica and a less contrasty look. The Vivo X100 is completly different. The Zeiss lens is very sharp and it produces shiny vibrant colours. Companies have different opinions on how an image should look like. Zeiss vs. Leica. Sony vs. Canon vs. Nikon and so on. The Vivo image has that typical Zeiss high (micro) contrast like with with lots of Sony Cameras and Zeiss lenses. The image has that typical Zeiss threedimensional "Pop" and deep look to it. I only take snapshot images on holidays. I love those real but vibrant threedimensional images. It gives me the best feeling when watching it. I strongly prefer the Vivo.

Great review Ben. Love the way you walk through the city while explaining Hong Kong. Since you are usually busy exploring new tech , it might be challenging but maybe in future you may want to try Himalayan landscape shooting in Nepal or India. Would be an awesome comparo Further , I usually use Gcam mod apks on Xiaomi phones ( cheaper ones ) to get decent results 1) I wonder how Gcam apk will do HDR on 14 Ultra 2) I wonder if there is a way to get Vivo camera Apk on 14 Ultra to get the max out of 14 ultra camera. 3) Would ND filters help to cut glare and make highlights better in night shots for 14 ultra 4) I think Leica modes are bit too processed. Is there an option to turn them off or only in Pro mode photography we can get non Leica mode results ?

Great video as always! I think we can all agree that if you want just to point and shoot the flagship phones are the way to go as you will get the best results. supprised to see how Xiaomi 14 U is close to a professional Fujifilm camera. Xiaomi is definitely producing pohotos more closer to real camera. But the perk of smartphone cameras is the computational photography. In that sense, I believe Vivo takes the lead here by a notch. The battery life on my X100 Pro is exceptionally good. It lasts two days comfortably for me. In case you have doubts, you can watch the Tech chaps battery drain test comparison. In fact it beats iP 15 PM, and you know how good the charging speed is 100 Watts with 120 Watts charger in the box.

Ben proved to viewers that Xiaomi's lecia camera algorithm isn't bad. It just tries to mimick the look of digital cameras which I like so much. Thanks for making such video.
LOL
Unfortunately he proved he knows nothing about how to use a camera which is not surprising. He basically unlocked 5 percent of the cameras potential by shooting in Auto mode. He doesn't know about multiple HDR settings in the Fuji cameras. He didn't pixel peep not even one photo to show the world of difference there is between a camera and a smartphone. Xiaomi colors were also good buuut, you can edit your camera Raw files in thousands of ways.
@@f.iph7291calm down, he only recently purchased the Fuji camera
@@f.iph7291lol you obviously think these two phones are like iPhones and Samsung and just overprocess shit to bits. you are so ignorant, refusing to acknowledge that these two phones' photo output has rendition very similar to the Fujifilm. I have the 14 ultra, and while IQ is obviously not as good as my x100v, it's "close enough" and doesn't look like an oil painting like most phones. and combine that with so many more focal lengths at the tip of your fingertips it makes the shooting experience on these phones super fucking fun.
so stop bragging about how you know so much and dictate how a person should do a camera review. and just letting you know an xt30ii is nowhere near the upper echelon of digital cameras. any modern full frame camera, like in the context of the street photography, any modern digital Leica will smash shit out of most fujifilms that isn't GFX in terms of IQ.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra is the best device to capture moody image at the moment.
and oppo find x7 ultra
That's debatable sagger lover
The pics in the Xioami and the Fujifilm look similar and have the camera look but the HDR of the Vivo resembles more of the human eye during the day. Our eyes have a high dynamic range
Fuji has multiple HDR settings in the camera menu. I love this guy but he should not review cameras because basically he doesn't know anything about photography and it is insulting to some extent
@f.iph7291 True

@@joshuabergeman354 Yep, I only had to disable like three things that were not in English and something I would never use. It's been great.

I bet you have lots of photos of p Diddy after parties 😂
As you said, the reason why the camera looks worse than the phones is due to phones post processing shots the same moment the picture is taken, while with the camera you're forced to do it afterwards.
The advantage the camera has is being way easier to have its photos post processed, because they come out in much better quality, allowing the user to edit any mistakes. Unless you blow out the highlights, you can fix basically anything else you don't like.
Some people may prefer a phone, others may prefer a camera. But it's up to the user to decide what tool they wish to use to produce his or her art.

I loved your review. My question is can I blow up the vivo photos for 12×12 book print or poster size without comprising the quantity? Thank you
I have owned the Vivo X100 PRO 2 months and I can say that it is a complete phone.
From Vivo X70Pro plus to current Xiaomi 14 Ultra, I am very excited to shoot as many as I can with this super phone. Thanks for the comparison. As a HongKonger, I am proud of you!
Thanks for the walking photo tour. I’m amazed at the Xiaomi and it looks to be very tempting for a smartphone. Also, it would be interesting to see some more HK or other location tours.
For fast travel, a "photophone" is the best. It does a lot. If you are a real photographer or an advanced photographer with a model for publication, a camera like Panasonic Lumix S5 m2 or G9 m2 is an obligation.

Fantastic video, and you nailed it 07 man, one of my mid range canon lenses cost more than the Fuji camera and the phone, i love my cameras , for wildlife and sport they are unreplaceable, however..... for day to day use, for a relaxing holiday without having to carry around and watch over 20k of gear all the time, for every moment i ever missed a great shot because the camera wasn't on me, both those phones are exceptional, and yes, exactly as you said, they aren't just a camera, they are a life essential device for 99.9% of people so as the Fuji costs £1600 in the UK and the full 14 ultra kit including camera kit and a free Xiaomi 6 pad is on offer for £1299 at the moment, I would go for the phone. It will be a great back up, always on me camera, or a great way to learn photography for someone if they use pro mode . Again, great job, great idea and well done

4:28 It depends on the dynamic range of the image sensor.
The Sony LYT sensor has a dynamic range of 16EV in Xiaomi 14 Ultra (Raw) and 14EV normally.
What holds Xiaomi back is that they removed the possibility of forcing the HDR while taking a picture. The auto detection is terrible. It's kinda weird, because I can literally force HDR and Dolby Vision while recording a video, but geez I can't force HDR while taking pics?

I just got the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, S24 Ultra, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and I have a whole load of "proper" cameras. Agreed on the value you get from smartphones, but sometimes you just want a device which only does one thing! But loving the photos out of the Xiaomi, more so than the Samsung S24 Ultra, I would say.
what about vivo x100? non pro? is it worth?
Those Xiaomi 14 ultra photos are in vibrant or authentic?
One thing to note: my Xiaomi 13 ultra (haven't take the 14 ultra out if the box yet) has vintage filters, a Kodachrome filter and what i think is a fujifilm filter, also.
I have the 14 ultra, what are they called? Been trying to figure this out
If you open the camera app in the lower right-hand corner you will see a star. Press on the star and the first filter it says is original. Then after that there are several lack of filters including the black and white. Then after that KC64 I believe is the Kodachrome filter. There's one that starts with f. I think f50. But there are some other filters in addition to these if you continue to play with the phone app you will find them.

I would definitely go on Xiaomi this one.. i like the natural looking and sharpness of the photos

Love the way you walk through the city while explaining Hong Kong.
Since you are usually busy exploring new tech , it might be challenging but maybe in future you may want to try Himalayan landscape shooting in Nepal or India. Would be an awesome comparo
Further , I usually use Gcam mod apks on Xiaomi phones ( cheaper ones ) to get decent results
1) I wonder how Gcam apk will do HDR on 14 Ultra
2) I wonder if there is a way to get Vivo camera Apk on 14 Ultra to get the max out of 14 ultra camera.
3) Would ND filters help to cut glare and make highlights better in night shots for 14 ultra

Great video as always! I think we can all agree that if you want just to point and shoot the flagship phones are the way to go as you will get the best results. On the other hand if you plan to shoot raw and edit it afterwards in the lightroom or photoshop those photos would destroy the ones taken from the phone. This is due to the fact that big sensor captures so much data and shadows can be recovered so easily.
What about the video capabilities?
Hi Ben, I see that both vivo and xiaomi take good pictures. Which phone has a better OS do you think, also how does the build quality compare? I want the phone to last at least 4-5 years. Also which phone would you prefer?
Xiaomi has better OS. I'm not a fan of vivos global software
Really cool comparison! Really waiting to see what the Vivo X100 Ultra is going to cost and see if it will be worth the extra money or just get the Pro global version.
I wouldn't expect any big leap. In my opinion it will be the same level. Right now x100 pro is on 1 level up vs competition.
@@Giorgiio69 That's what I am thinking too but it gives a little more time for the Pro version to go down in price as well but we'll see.
Love your unbiased video reviews
Thank you
Where is the Oppo find x7 ultra?
what is the case u r using for VIVO
I believe Vivo X100 Pro is the best smartphone in terms of quality/price that we saw in years. We also have to understand that most people make photos for social medias which have restrictions for the size (=quality) of those photos.
supprised to see how Xiaomi 14 U is close to a professional Fujifilm camera. Xiaomi is definitely producing pohotos more closer to real camera. But the perk of smartphone cameras is the computational photography. In that sense, I believe Vivo takes the lead here by a notch. Vivo's software, despite impressive, needs some adjustment in terms of color, HDR, sharpness to balance between camera and smartphone camera.
Vivo x 100, did it get an update for 4k from the front camera?
I was undecided whether to buy xiaomi 14ultra or vivox100 pro .
Thanks to this video I will buy the vivo x100pro without any doubt. It is incredible the camera of this cell phone
Ben, I'm having a hard time deciding. Vivo or Xiaomi? I'm still using the Mi 11 Ultra in the USA on T-Mobile. Which is your ultimate go to??
I think I like the xiaomi a bit more as all around phone
@@bensgadgetreviews any particular reason why? I love photography but I'm not too knowledgeable about the tech side of it.
I think you need to stop saying that you're not a professional photgrapher. In a way you are, you just specialize in other things than others, so you don't need to play with manual settings - it's irrelevant to you. Give yourself credit, mate.
I care about color accuracy and little noise. I just want to know if the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is the best photography and videography phone.
I want to shoot low light content with minimal noise with that 1 inch sensor.
XIAOMI BETTER, THE FOR VIDEO AND PHOTO
Is there any difference between the Xiaomi 14 Ultra's Hong Kong version and the mainland version?
Yes. Hong Kong version is the global ROM meaning it has google apps natively and can run android auto which china ROM does not. Unless you live in china the HK ROM is much better
@@bensgadgetreviews Thank you! Also, does that mean I can receive a good signal in the US or other countries if I get the HK version?
