I first rode to Hay-on-Wye in South Wales at the start of April 1984 to stay camping for a week.. I went back to the west Midlands and I loved the roads in Wales that much that before the end of April I had moved to Hay-on-Wye..
I lived there for just under 4 years I then moved to Oban on the west coast of Scotland and lived there for 18 months.. I decided to move back to Wales only this time I moved to Mid Wales were I lived and bought up my family, I lived there in Llandrindod Wells for 22 years before moving were I live now up in North Wales, The Ponderosa Cafe where you stopped to meet your dad is my local biker cafe which is just over 20 minutes from my house...
I have been very fortunate to have lived with some of the best biking roads right outside my front door.
Heading back to Llandndrod next weekend 👍
@@RichyVida I can't keep away from the A483 from Newtown to Crossgates, Llandrindod Wells and down to Builth Wells, and then the A470 through Newbridge-on-Wye, Rhayader and onto the Elan Valley loop.. Stunning views on amazing roads..

My first weekend tour was in Wales on my Himalayan. Fantastic trip.
Wales has some stunning roads and scenery, we did Elan Valley and Devil's Staircase at the end of March, was so good we did it again but anti clockwise.

Was in wales last weekend. Mate and I stayed in Dolgellau. Good couple of days riding round including the A4069 (Top Gear Road) which now unfortunately has 40 MPH average speed cameras. Good road is the A483 north from Llandrindod Wells towards Welshpool
Me and my wife got home this time last week from our Honeymoon, which was a Motorcycle tour of North Wales 😎
We both absolutely loved the fantastic scenery, the roads are the best I’ve ever ridden!
We did it all, fully loaded with panniers 2-up on my RE Meteor 350! 😁
Looking fwd to going on Bruce’s Chickenstrips tour to Welsh Wales … re your new bikes name, reminiscent of my previous bmw R9t Urban GS… I called that Keith, as in Keith Urban - so yes I also had a bike called Keith !!!!
Was there all weekend 🙌🏻 a friend of the family had a place in Builth wells so we use that as base camp for the elan valley 😍
Just came back from Inverness Richy, I find these places are fantastic when the weather is kind but very harsh when not. 😂
Go now before Furher Dickfords preposterous blanket 20 MPH limit comes into force in September 2023.

road Wales last year, doing Land's End to John O Groats, then finishing off on the NC500, epic trip, 2 weeks until my first trip away, Brittany/Normandy TET, then ABR in June, and finally Pyrenees France, Spain and Andorra in September, some great trips planned this year. Elan valley was amazing 😁

Love riding in Wales, Richie. I try and do a trip there every year. It helps having a son in uni in Aberystwyth! Speed restrictions are coming in though, so we concentrate on chugging around the lanes.

I was there myself last week. I rode from Lincolnshire. Visited the Ponderosa and the Old Stored Biker Cafe. Hve you been to the Old Stores Biker Cafe Richy? You really need to go. I grew up in the area and I could show some back roads to the Ponderosa and The Old Stores Cafe that you would love.

Noticed you do not seem to use Calimoto any more in favour of a Zumo XT. Any particular reason? I am doing the same thing and find the Zumo is an intuititive and great bit of kit. Would rather have put this in a private post but could not find a way. A while ago I asked what hand protectors you were using. Went for the Barkbusters. Cracking gear.

Yeah, once you get used to and understand the Garmin, it’s just head and shoulders above any app on your phone. I have just also purchased MRA (MyRouteApp) for route planning as it transfers so much easier to (and talks properly to) the Garmin. I’d still use Cali if on the VFR or pressbikes etc.

I remember watching a video a while back about supreme coat ceramic, I ride all year round, is it worth getting or will a regular wash with acf50 suffice? I ask as I know I’ll get a genuine answer! The roads & views certainly lend themselves riding in Wales, one just has to deal with the Welsh!! Yes as soon as you enter a shop or bar they stop talking English & begin an attempt at speaking Welsh.. unfortunately that rather large chip on the shoulder now identifies as a baked potato ..
