I listened to this lecture last night! I’m just going to type my stance here. It’s no good pleasing or attempting to please the people (impression management) for respect from the people when as Muslims we should ultimately be concerned with pleasing Allah SWT alone! I’m not saying to be rude, however, people can for example, make a mess or cause corruption, so in this scenario one that’s on the brink or receiving end of such, won’t exactly take a liking to certain people.
I would like to advise Muslim parents about a few things, because I am a teacher and as such, am unfortunately a witness to this behaviour from majority Muslim children, particularly from the Turkish and Somali communities. This is not to target anyone but to bring about some awareness. Rambunctious, rowdy and out of control children seem to be the norm now. We are finding parents who have many children are utterly unable to look after or give their children their rights, which include instilling good manners and respect for authority - parents and teachers in particular. Children in our communities with poor diets. I am shocked every day to see how our children are fed in school packed lunches compared to a lot of non Muslim children. Huge share bags of crisps, fizzy drinks, chocolates and multipacks of Oreos. This all has a detrimental affect on your child's learning, attitude and hyperactivity, not to mention their health. So many of our children are grossly overweight and this is unacceptable in a Deen such as ours that promotes the perfection of manners, health and looking after oneself. Parents with inter-generational trauma. These things directly impact the children, as does the anger, the swearing, the cussing and the dragging up of children, as opposed to bringing them up. The children are suffering in a multitude of ways and all of this goes back to basic parenting skills, manners, good character and a decent diet. Those of us in the western world with access to fresh food and the internet with which to learn more, have no excuse for ignorance. I pray even one parent reading this takes heed or advises another, because from what I and others see from this TikTok, junk food addicted muslim generation of children, I seriously fear for the future. Barakallahufeekom.
