      I want to learn about RV's and RV systems. I will be living in an RV by the end of this year. I will do it on my own, no gifts, no hand outs. If you're not self sufficient you're not doing it and not living it.

    Regarding the aluminum flashing, if you were to put some wood trim over the edge of the flashing on the countertop surface, it would prevent you getting scratched/bloody on any sharp edges and, if you spill something while cooking it will keep it on the flashing and not running over the edge. Looking forward to seeing the roof water system modifications.

      ***** Actually you bring up a good point. Dealers down in Florida go directly with your licensing state and simply look up the figures in that state and make it happen. I know this because of the purchase I almost made. He had it all figured out.

    Jax is so cute!!!! Thanks for the info about FL's DMV. I'll be getting my camper in about 2 weeks from Florida. I, too had trouble with them and I called my insurance company who advised me as long as the vehicle is "attached" to my insured car, I am insured and can use my plates and be covered. When I get to SC I will be able to get my plates from our DMV. I love your aluminum covering, but I think the diamond steel would look more you. BTW I fixed my reply thing on Google+, per DougDubya. Thanks for the feedback. ; )

    Eric keep your spirits up. Just think in 2 days you will be able to do whatever you want, You wont have to worry about your plates or insurance. Just keep doing whatever work you want to do on the van till then and the 2 days will fly past. Like I always say don't worry about responding, just keep up the videos. I enjoy watching them. I don't understand the American system to do things as I live in the UK and we do things a lot differently and easier. You don't have plates for each place in the UK you just have UK number plates. All you have to do to get insurance is register the Van, which you can do on the internet and you can get the insurance on the internet in a matter of mins.

    • @pieter1102
      @pieter1102 9 лет назад +3

      johnny prothero Actually, to make a complete comparison you should not look at the UK, but at the EU. And in the EU, just like in the USA, each country/state does its own vehicle licensing (same in Canada for each province). And you know how politicians and bureaucrats wants things their way and don't want any federal body to tell them what to do. And that's why in the US and Canada the systems developed separately and differently, and in the EU they never harmonized the systems that existed before the EU was founded.

    I agree with Johnny. Keep your spirits up. Everyone here at home (haven't put up videos yet of it) has been telling me stuff like "You can't live in that!" when I tell them I'll be in a tiny 14' travel trailer for a month or two before getting a bigger RV. HAHA! They have no clue. Not only "can" I do it, I'm "going" to do it and am actually looking forward to it! :) It's a long story, but anyway. Please keep the videos coming. All the people I watch on here are giving me ideas for my upcoming RV life every day.

  • @farty1000
    @farty1000 8 лет назад +2

    what a pile of BS to register a vehicle! here in the uk it takes 2 mins to do and 3 days later you have a logbook (ownership papers in your name) job done. licence plate stays with the vehicle so less hassle there. curious what "the title" is?

  • @u1stplease

      ***** One thing insurance companies usually don't tell you is that if your vehicle is totaled YOU can purchase the "salvage", which would be deducted from whatever they were going to give you for the totaled vehicle. Then you can have the repairs done and continue to drive the vehicle.

  • @JCTravelStories

    Glad you got your Wa plates, Eric. I had the same problems with Oregon. There's another easy way. I've plated a car in South Dakota without being a resident, without a SD driver's license, without insurance, and without me or the car even being in the USA. I know hundreds of people and their cars who have never physically been in SD who have SD plates in Mexico. If anybody has Eric's same problem with a new vehicle, or an expired plate, contact me. SD is RV and traveler friendly.

    • @thenomadicham5329
      @thenomadicham5329 9 лет назад

      Hi. I have been looking into this issue myself. I was told however that upon moving to SD from elsewhere, you have to remain in the state for 6 months before you can be considered a resident and hence get your plates and license. Is this true? Here in Prescott Arizona, I often see SD plates running around the area. A couple of days ago, I saw two motorcyclists with SD plates. They might have been towed here from an RV, don't know. I have also considered going to FL to use the system much like SD. The only other state I am aware of is TX.

    American registration systems are so stupid... 8 weeks for a title who's to say you even have the car a week from today... things happen. In Canada my friend bought a rig and it got stole in 1 week of owning it... Imagine if you needed that title for insurance purposes? In Canada you buy a car you walk in buy insurance and registration its all done right there on the spot.

NOW , I love the current video's and your progress on the van is awesome. Please keep going just like you are. We "people who call you a friend" are waiting everyday to hear and see you and Jax and this wonderful adventure.. be safe and Keep it up brother!! john (vlad)

    You want a nightmare, try to register an RV or any vehicle up here in Ontario. If you want RV insurance you need a valid propane system certification. You need proof of insurance to get your license plates. To get your license plates you need to get an emission test and road safety check. Any time you transfer vehicle ownership up here you need a valid e-test and safety check.

    I'm preparing to slowly transition into this, or a variation of this, lifestyle. As a result I've been watching Eric's and other's rv/van life videos. I'm appreciative to all for the information shared. This being said, I've noticed an inordinate amount of hate aimed at Eric compared to the other youtubers. This prompted me to watch more closely. What I concluded was that, regardless of his reality, It appears that Eric receives a lot of help from kind and giving people but he doesn't show how he's paying it forward often enough. Now, in the interest of remaining objective, I'll assume he is paying it forward, then, he should show it or speak of it more. Not to boast but to clear the air. I believe that paying Wayne for his services and giving him a nice tip, would be the perfect start. 15 years ago I was gifted a car. After a couple of years, when my situation improved, I gifted it forward. A few years later, when this younger recipient came to me asking what I thought they could get for the 1991 Volvo, their situation had also improved, I reminded her of how grateful she was to have received the car when she needed it and recommended she gift it to someone in need. I rarely, if ever, write comments and I'm not a troller; nore do I have the time or the inclination to debate anyone, just decided to give some advice. I haven't formulated an opinion as to Eric's integrity and character yet but I'm hoping for the best because I enjoy the information he and others share. Good day all. And good luck Eric.

    Making licensing a vehicle hard for the honest people makes it hard for car thieves too. Some states make it really hard and others not so much. I hear California is no cake walk either. I live in Canada and even our provinces make it hard. I am fortunate I live in Alberta it is pretty easy as long as your address matches on 3 documents; your drivers licence, registration and insurance. If your address does not match on anyone of those you are in for a tough time.

    I love your cat! Looks like my cat, Patch... but he isn't doing well right now (urination difficulties). Anyway, that sounds like a lot of bs runaround with your plate/tab/registration/title/etc. Sorry to hear. I live in MN (health insurance, housing, taxes, etc) with an IN license and plates/tabs/insurance/title/registration. I am a student, but I heard the trick is that you have to live in the one state 51% of the time otherwise. Mostly when I get stopped though, I just say I'm passing through. But maybe better to not have to worry. Hope it all works out for you ;)

    in alabama here we drive on those plastic tags that the car lots put on the car with their name on it , we call them "Drive a way " tags with a bill of sale you can drive on them for 20 days . if you buy from a private seller you have 20 days to drive with no tag at all

    I gave my niece a car - it was very simple. I lived in one state, my niece lived in another. The day I gave her the car, we went to DMV (in my state) and transferred the title and registration (in my home state) and her insurance company covered the vehicle. She then drove to her state and went to their DMV office where the title and registration were updated to that state. Why didn't you and the individual who gave you the RV do that? It would have been so much easier. Lots of people purchase (or are gifted cars) from out of their home state. Nobody has the trouble you've described.
    Also, when you purchase a vehicle new, you never have the plates - just the VIN number.... and insurance companies will insure on the VIN number. It always takes anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks to get plates for a new vehicle - people don't drive around w/out insurance on their new cars waiting for the plates.
    Also, how were you able to get plate w/out DEQ smog check?

    Very happy to hear you talk about this. We expect to have similar problems. When you don't have an actual physical residence the government doesn't really know what to do to you. I have heard that Texas will allow renewals from out of state RVers. But you have to first register in Texas. That's the only state I've heard will do this.
    We are considering a Texas or Nevada PO Box. Some say that this will satisfy the burro-crats that you have a residence.

    Hi Eric. Not criticism but a suggestion. The outlet you wired into the battery cabinet, perhaps would be less obtrusive if located up on the panel above the cabinet. I am just thinking about the wires that will be plugged into that sticking out where they can get bumped. Just thinking it would be nice if it was "out of the way." You sure do things fast! I am so slow when it comes to those things. Cheers Eric!!!

    Hello Eric it has been 5 years or so, However I bought a truck in Florida. I was able to obtain Florida plates with my Ohio Drivers License. I was told at the DMV that it was impossible also. However I went to one of the mailbox places that also does license and they did it. Like I said rules might have changed since then.

    You don't have to own a vehicle to insure it. Just about any insurance company will sell you insurance if you provide the VIN. Any time I purchase a vehicle I immediately put insurance on it. I'm pretty sure its illegal to operate any vehicle without it, no matter what the situation.
    I love the videos Eric, keep up the great work

    • @montyhaul2305
      @montyhaul2305 9 лет назад

      French presses are great... till you have to deal with the grounds. Takes a bit of water to rinse them well. I say a drip cone and a paper filter should be considered. They even have silicone collapsible ones. (Pretty ceramic ones handmade on etsy too.)

    • @raygunz333
      @raygunz333 9 лет назад

      I use a single cup coffee filter holder that uses paper filters, and has a valve mechanism that releases the coffee only after placed on a cup. It's like a french press, you let the grounds soak for a few minutes, but there's virtually no cleanup, throw away the filter and rinse after use. And Eric could even use the same $15 electric kettle I use, it's 900 watts, but it only takes a couple of minutes to boil water, so it's using very little power. (2/60 x 900 watts = 30 watt hours for a cup of joe, Eric's battery bank holds 12v x 400 amps =4800 watt hours!!!)

    That sucks. In Texas you could have easily found out how much to send the guy by calling a tax assessor / collectors office in the county you reside in. You can also get insurance on any vehicle you want here without having it registered/titled in your name. Sounds like Washington is very backwards.

    Please please get a higher roof topper. They have higher and a bit wider ones too. Then u can put the bed up top across if u got the six foot wide 2 foot high topper. Your gas mileage will be virtually unchanged. More space. Jax would appreciate it. Lol. And you would have a living room again. And u can hide your bed if u want.

  • @pieter1102

    Eric, I am not worried about more ventilation for your van. Your ceiling fan should be enough as long as some air can get in as well. But you may consider adding some ventilation to the cabinet under the stove. If any propane leaks from the connection between tank and burner, or if it is released from the burner without igniting, then you can easily build up an explosive mixture in that cabinet. Propane is heavier than air, so it will not be vented upwards through the burner opening.
    I would suggest to create an opening at low level. Ideally to the outside, but even inside is better because there you have ventilation. You could replace the lower part of the door panel with some mesh, for example.

    wow sounds absolutely crazy, in Canada you can go to any licensing bureau here and get a transfer permit good for 7 days to transport any vehicle with full insurance coverage for about 45 dollars to go anywhere in canada ,dont need to transfer title till back in your own province.Even as a Canadian while visiting in the states i can get a transfer permit to buy a American vehicle and transport it across to here for same price , but you only have 7 days which is more then you need to transverse the country from one end to the other. Sorry to see you still have the troll problem in the responses. Shame some people lives are so pathetic all the have left is to show their hate and jealousy for others who are doing something rather than sitting in front of computer 14 hours a day in there stained underwear wasting their lives away. LOL
