Glad to hear the solar system is providing so well for you. Looks like you have things pretty well figured out and running smoothly. One item you could try that we use a lot when camping out around Mt Adams and such, is a bunch of Costco baby wipes. Premoistened towels to wash hands, face, whatever and just toss when done. Very space friendly. You'll love Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse. I suppose you should put Wall Drug on your list and drink from the spring. It's a way off but I hope you can fit in Sante Fe's old district.
I have been binge watching. Can't wait to get to the part where you are in the new RV that I saw in later videos. I created a shirt on my MerchValue website with you in kind. "#Boondocking in Style".
Eric, I am a subscriber who lives full time in his 2002 Nissan Xterra. I have just recently started looking at your old vids, when you exited out of 'Tilly' and got 'Bertha'. I've seen most of your recent vids with your newer Class C, and that wrap you had put on is pure genius! Rad dude, it's simply rad! I own a 2001 Rexhall Vision 27', but where I stay, a motorhome is not welcome, so my RV is in storage. I have had to downsize my life from the 27' Rexhall to an SUV. So I know what you went thru when you had to downsize. I have 300 watts of solar on my roof rack, that feed my Goal Zero Yeti 1400 watt Solar Generator, and my two Yeti 400 generators, each of these run LiFePo4 lithium batteries inside, plus a hardwired 1000 watt inverter from my Optima Marine Blue Top AGM battery under my hood that has both starting and deep cell capabilities. I have a small Dometic console sized refrigerator, at night in Cali it only gets down to 30° to 25° in the winter, so I don't need a heater, but I have a Mr. Buddy heater in my storage. On winter nights I plug in my 2 DC powered electric blankets into my Yeti 1400, one under me and one on top, then 2 more heavy blankets, and of course I wear my thermal long johns and I can handle anything Cali winter nights can throw at me, and I never run out of battery power. I also have a Yamaha 2000 watt generator in my Stowaway II cargo box on the back of my Xterra just in case it decides to get cloudy for a week or two here in SoCal, which hardly ever happens. I know if I was in Washington or other cold weather states, I would have to crank up the Buddy heater. Now I know you have a new larger class C, but I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated how you made improvements on 'Bertha'. I am looking forward to seeing the video showing your transition from Bertha to the new Class C, and also finding out whatever happened to Bertha. Dude, you are like me, you optimize and improve your situation every time LIFE gives you lemons. Like a 'mad scientist' you systematically re-imagined that van and made it your own (and Sweet Jax's too). I am a professional dog trainer, but I love cats too, and I love how you ingeniously redesigned Jax's litter box. I have just 2 suggestions. One, I recommend switching out from a messy labor intensive water dependent toilet to a Laveo Dry Waterless Porta Potty. No dumping, no cleaning, and no plumbing the toilet in. It would fit in your new Chevy Class C easily with room to spare. Everything is bagged up, easy peasy! Bags are the only expense, but no water means you will save money and labor. And finally, my 2nd suggestion for your new Class C, switch from propane cooking to a double inductive cook top, or even a 4 place inductive cooktop, assuming you still get adequate solar like you had in Bertha. It might be good to keep the propane range around for back up. Better yet you could simply buy ( about $35 ea.) 2 or 3 stand alone inductive cooktops that would simply plug into your AC outlet in your galley, that way you have 2 forms of cooking, solar electric cooktops (free energy) and propane ($), but you could save on propane by taking out the individual inductive hot plates when you need to cook, which ultimately runs free off of solar. Anyway, I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your "never say die attitude". You don't let TROLLS bug you, you are always smiling and optimizing, and continually moving forward. You give inspiration to people like me. I have cancer, but being an optimist like you, I always say, "I'm not dying from cancer, I'm living with cancer." Keep up the fight brother, and may the wind be at your back, and may you be in Heaven an hour before the devil knows you're gone! Ron
Your van set up is well thought out. I'm really Tryin to save for a camper top for my truck. I'd like to have a similar as your new set up, very simplistic yet efficient. If van stock is happening I'm down for good times with good people. Good luck brother, hope your cruise goes smooth!

Hello Eric. I would hang the Mister Buddy on the door of the closet where your batteries are. Inside. You don't open that door often anyways. I would line the inside of Jax poop room with sheets of plastic because it would be a lot easier to clean and disinfect. By the way you don't need a second water bottle, takes too much space I think. There are great game emulators for android ( and IOS), so you can stream them from a phone to a screen or a tv... I would just install a tv or better, a lcd computer flat screen that you can buy for les than 150$. Better than a tv, mine is IPS 24 inches wide 16:2 and flat like a 1/2 inch thick. It has HD, audio and RCA inputs, everything you need. Cheap, clean full hd and portable. Take care.
Eric, Your videos are getting better and better. I have been watching for several months and this one was really good. Your new black van is really neat and you have some great ideas on making it even better. I watch your channel every single day and look forward to see where you are and what is going on. Bob A. Florida "I am the old guy who wants to do what you are doing before my time here ends."
Gosh, I'm surprised you are already leaving the south and also heading so far west. I thought you'd be taking advantage of the warmer weather and also seeing more of the Southeast and even the Eastern parts of the country, such as DC. The Smythsonian is something that I would go hundreds of miles out of my way to see again. The Smokies and Appalachian mountains are absolutely beautiful this time of year. Is there some special reason you are heading back to Washington so quickly?
Vicki Olson Maybe he is going to hook up with Chris and "G" (Chris Travels) and head to Alaska with them. They were just in Denver two or three days days ago and headed west over the Rookies yesterday. The Final Frontier....As long as Bertha is running good, I would go for it.
Vicki Olson Been on the road 6 months. Missed Christmas and Thanksgiving with my family. I'm eager to get back and visit those I love. Then I'll be back on the road.
We understand cleaning the litter box more than once a day, since that is also true for us. Glad you are heading west of out the Midwest, since it is spring and tornadoes have already made their appearance.
cool Eric since you have had this van so many insights and how you made it self sustaining for your self on the road. Maybe just a thought make an E-Book Van Living for people to download tips and tricks living cross country :)
Most rest areas in the northern midwest are pretty similar to that one. They're very parkish with large indoor areas. I used to drive all over this part of the midwest (Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, ND, etc) doing dealer trades. It's a nice place to be nomadic when the weather is fine.
Hope you had a great time! Welcome to my home state! You are in for rocky weather tonight be safe and if you get a chance you should head to Springfield Il to check out Abraham Lincoln museum! Crazy I stumbled on to your site by accident and love it!
Thanks Eric, interesting report on the Van and solar system. Solar looks like a great solution, but I was wondering if you have installed, or have considered installing a battery/alternator isolator so you can charge your deep-cycle battery from the Van alternator? I found I did not need the generator on a large cabin cruiser I had by charging two deep-cycle batteries off the engine alternator and using a 1500 watt inverter for power. Solar was hard to mount on a boat and was not always dependable in Seattle.
Andrew Gems Then how about a circuit that stops charging the van battery when it's full and transfers the current to the deep cycle batteries? Or is that what a "battery/alternator isolater" would do? Sorry, I have limited electrical knowledge and I'm just curious. That heavy generator on the back of the van just looks like negative mpg to me when there might be another solution to cover most if not all of it's uses.
You can buy a bluesea automatic transfer switch ACR. It does just that. It will charge the primary battery. Then charge the AUX battery bank. When you park. The transfer switch will use the AUX battery only. When the key is in Acc postion. You can get them on Ebay for around $70.00-$80.00 and it's simple to install.
Cool video Eric I can't wait to see the Mount Rushmore video I enjoy your videos quite a lot and kinda getting bummed when I don't see one next day but you and Jax can't stay married to RUclips everyday I know you have to enjoy your life to good luck and have an awesome day
I would try to split the battery compartment area in two, so that half would be electrical and half would be storage. Storage is so limited in there. Maybe put a shelf in or somethin
i am so jealous of your set up. love everything you are doing. i cant wait to see what happens next. hey if you ever are in Richland Oregon, stop by, we will fire up the grill and have some of the beer i make. later man. stay safe.
+ Todd Lynn Clearly you are a hater. You're probably envious of the fact that he's built the channel 27 thousand followers and residual income? Your harassment only shows with a small person you are
If Eric is so worthless why are you wasting all your time trying to argue with me in this thread? I know who you are Todd and I know where you live, trust me your life conditions aren't that great at least not good enough to be bagging on Eric
That looks like the O'Fallon Wal-mart if I'm not mistaken. In fact, I'm sure of it. I wish I'd knew you were traveling through southern IL. You could have camped at Rend Lake, one of the best places in the state to camp.
Very cool van setup, if you were in st louis and heading to Colorado you probably went through my home town of Kansas City, MO. I hope you enjoyed the city. Take care
thats awesome that the van is working out for you my Wife said Hells no on a van. and I want to travel freely like your doing but I hitched her up and Im staying with her so we have to find a motor home. take care and kee them coming )
Van Stiller The above YIKES is in response to a troll that sent me a message saying he was notifying the police that Eric was endangering the public and Jax while holding him and driving. And that we all should too.
Eric, first of all, I love your channel. I don't understand why there are so many haters. Don't let them get to you. Second, you should try to put a small sink in. Third, you should do a sorta funny video where you actually COOK a meal in the rv. And by cook, I mean not heating up noodles. You get the picture. Say hi to Jax for me! :{) (mustache face)
Hey Eric! Awsome seeing you doing so well so happy for you! Downsizing was really best choice! Dont forget some Love to the engine but I dont doubt that you are top of that to! Kind regards Marcus Sweden(also good of you to delay videos for safety)
Regarding the door to access the propane; maybe you can reverse it? Or maybe set it to slide out or up? This way you can access that area with the van door closed. 😄👍🚐
Yeah I fall in the disabled category and just love to watch you and Jax do stuff I'm not well enough to do. I think it would be great for people with PTSD like me who need peace and quiet. if it wasn't for my constant headache I would live like you. Think more Tilly and less Bertha because I would like a slightly bigger fridge and a bathroom. Big hugs from Christine
I would love a 13 minute video devoted entirely for Jax. He's a cat with sweet personality and is very talkative and I think you'd be crazy not to base one whole full video dedicated just for him.
Wanderersea We can only take so much of your bits and bobs technicalities, Eric. LOL!!!!!! A bit of extreme cuteness every now and then is exactly what the doctor has ordered. Please devote one full video of Jax doing Jax things.
Wish you could have stopped at an Illinois attraction site. Not certain where you crossed but Shawnee National Forest or Metroplis with their large Superman statue should have fairly far south. We have more to offer than corrupt politicians. :)
Hello this is my first comment ,i do sure wish i could do what you do ,my health and circumstance just wont allow me to do it .Fair play to you and Jax I do like your set up it looks great i wish you well for the future.Keep the vids coming oh by the way what camera are you using ?
You know a good investment someday would to make the roof higher on the van so you could stand inside. Not sure exactly if thats possible, but it would be really cool.
I've stopped at that rest area several times. Very nice park like setting. When you get close to Kansas City feel free to hit me up. Just live east of the city about 10 miles off the highway and can give you a spot to park if needed or a place to work on the van, like install that CB.
Terry Keith I hate to say this, but as he said, Eric's videos are usually four days behind by the time that we see them so he has probably already been to and left St. Louis and Kansas City.
Ivan W. It's not dumb and many people are confused by it. Had this question come up a lot while in the Marines. They are two cities in two states. Each city has it's own government and the only things in common are the name and a border. They were both incorporated about 20years apart in the mid to late 1800s.
Eric, next time you are near Metropolis, Illinois, stop and see the giant statue of Superman! My husband and I stop there every year on our way to Florida!
hay eric been following u from holland 4 about a year now.......wow men i am in shock u sold yr rv......and now live in that little van.....its soooo little !!
If you value the finish on your guitar you may want to reconsider the garage hooks to hang it . Maybe look for a quality hanger that will not have a reaction with finish . ....when you were talking about the toilet and then said that it was awesome sauce I busted out laughing .lol. Peace.
I can see why people have unplugged the fridge Eric. I have a Waeco CDF25, a dometic product, a 100AH deep cycle, and 100W (2x 50w folding) MONO panel. Here in the UK there are times when while the fridge is off, the panels will recharge the battery to boost voltage, 14.4 When the fridge kicks in as a cloud blows over, it draws from the battery, but only briefly. When it stops and the cloud blows past, it hits 14.4 in no time and starts boost charging again, and again, and again. Until now its been boosting all day at 14.4, not just 2 hours! See my/the problem? If i let the battery reach float though, (by switching the fridge off for 2 hours) the quick 3-4 minutes the compressor runs, isn't enough to dip below the float voltage reset parameter in the charge controller, and it continues to hold 13.8 float :) In cloudy conditions, the solar supports my setup but doesnt result in this issue because of higher usage(doesnt reach boost V). In sunny conditions i dont have this problem becuase its making enough amps for the fridge and to remain 0.2A holding 14.4v (to finish boost) But anything in between i can have the boost charge loop issue. My fix is to either see its boosting and switch off the solar panels(bat full and will last me approx 3 days), untill the next day, or switch off the fridge for 2 hours. Its something i live with, my solar still keeps me going and generally one day out of three, before im low, i get lucky and have sun and it recharges no problem :)
swap the hinges on litter box door so it opens towards the heater. glad your happy... Also wanted to ask do you think your solar system is so much cuz of the cell batteries or is it something else?
With the door to adjust the propane couldn't move the hinges to the other side. so it would open towards the van door instead of the current way towards the center of the van?
2700 is a steal you can take a good deal of that with you ..i used to have a hightop conversion 1998 ,, Gave up with shops and leased a new one , price is high but repairs are none gas price is in half.
Awe man, I'm in Ohio right now but headed to Illinois, just missed you. EDIT: Oh now that I watched the whole video I see you were there about 4 days ago :D
Could you do a cooking Video in the Van so the Viewers can see the difference between Tilly & Bertha as far as cooking procedures go, Just a kind simple request.
james moore Or, you could put in a doggy-door flap and take the door off all together. The kind people install in their back doors for pets. This way the litter is always separated from the rest of the living space, and it's a two way flap you can access your stove controls with. :)
Hey Eric, haven´t you said that you are going to install some sort of sink into the kitchen area? Just wondering if you are still going to do that or is the water setup working good enough for you like it is now?. Btw, great video, really like your stuff.
jknocal So is it hateful for someone to want Eric (and Jax) to stay safe by not engaging in behavior that is risky and edgy? Or is it hateful for someone to encourage Eric to engage in edgy and risky behavior so that they can be "entertained"?
By the way for a CB radio, Here's from an advertiser on your youtube page. www.amazon.com/dp/B00415KISO/ref=dra_a_rv_mr_hn_it_P1400_1000?tag=dradisplay-20&ascsubtag=a73b22f1b8606f0515dd309a2a83bc2e_S It's for the Galaxy 959 CB with AM and SSB. Match that with a 7 foot Firestick Antenna on your bumper and you can talk up to 40 miles in the SSB mode. That's my best proven distance. Most people just have a standard 40 channel AM unit. Bummer that the Galaxy doesn't have a weather section. For that you might consider the Uniden 980SSB with weather at about $120.00. Cheaper but the Galaxy is considered one of the best.
Nomadic Fanatic I wonder if you craigslisted that heavy generator and maybe moved your trash setup out there if that would improve it much. Probably wouldn't be very significant, but I still wonder.
Your new rig when your driving sounds really healthy. I love that you got that van it's really nice and it's been fun watching you fix it up.
You van is truly self-contained, I like the way you set it up and still have plenty of room.
I really can't wait to get my own van, build it into a home and travel around europe and photograph its landscapes :) you are an inspiration Eric!
Awesome update, Eric. Real glad it's working out! The solar is fantastic! 👍
Its great to see you so happy and always smiling. I think the van looks awesome and all the mods youve done are fantastic.

😄👍🚐
Maybe you could change the hinges on the cupboard door to open the other direction. You might have enough room to reach in.
Glad to see you in such a good mood bro keep it up !
If Jax poops on the floor does that mean he had a Jaxident? Lolololololharharhar
Jeff S Very funny. :)
I can feel your contentment and wish you more of the same
You're in luck. Washington is just starting to warm up.
i am very happy for you and i hope to be able to do the same in the future
Hello this is my first comment ,i do sure wish i could do what you do ,my health and circumstance just wont allow me to do it .Fair play to you and Jax I do like your set up it looks great i wish you well for the future.Keep the vids coming oh by the way what camera are you using ?
Andrew M GoPro Hero 4 Silver
Thank you Sir
Come on up to Wisconsin and watch a Brewers game!
You know a good investment someday would to make the roof higher on the van so you could stand inside. Not sure exactly if thats possible, but it would be really cool.
k5krusher I can stand. I'm 5'5".
A higher roof would drop the gas mileage even more with the extra wind resistance from the front and more drag from the rear!
Andrew Gems You took the words right out of my mouth.
I've stopped at that rest area several times. Very nice park like setting. When you get close to Kansas City feel free to hit me up. Just live east of the city about 10 miles off the highway and can give you a spot to park if needed or a place to work on the van, like install that CB.
Ain't Kansas city ks and Mo a whole city or two separate cities? I don't know i feel dumb asking that i just wanted to know!
Virgil Leonard Not really. It's the same city, just in two states, across a river from each other.
Vicki Olson Yeah I saw that after commenting.
I hsve been SD hsring your plihht as n delight with others. Keep keeping on
Eric, next time you are near Metropolis, Illinois, stop and see the giant statue of Superman!
If i let the battery reach float though, (by switching the fridge off for 2 hours) the quick 3-4 minutes the compressor runs, isn't enough to dip below the float voltage reset parameter in the charge controller, and it continues to hold 13.8 float :)
In cloudy conditions, the solar supports my setup but doesnt result in this issue because of higher usage(doesnt reach boost V).
Nice Brewers hat!!
Drew Anderson Beat me to that comment!
nothing wrong with a throw back Molitor or Robin Yount jersey either.
2700 is a steal you can take a good deal of that with you ..i used to have a hightop conversion 1998 ,,
Gave up with shops and leased a new one , price is high but repairs are none gas price is in half.
Awe man, I'm in Ohio right now but headed to Illinois, just missed you.
EDIT: Oh now that I watched the whole video I see you were there about 4 days ago :D
Next question. Yellowstone or Glacier National Park?
Sam Buckalew I vote both. Drive through Yellowstone with some light stops. Do some hiking in Glacier to really see it.
come up to sheboygan wisconsin. u have a place for u to hook up to 120v if u like u canstay as long as u like
Do it Eric. I'm from Appleton Wisconsin originally. Know a handful of people in Sheboygan.
Josh Busnelli right
I live in stl lol time to go to Walmart .. 4 day delay what aww man . Maybe next time
Wow, I could live at those rest stops!
Can you compare the two trips one in the home and this one in the van witch did you like better??
Eric how many amp are you getting out of the solar panel on a good sunny day.......
kb5zcs 11-13amps
Could you do a cooking Video in the Van so the Viewers can see the difference between Tilly & Bertha as far as cooking procedures go, Just a kind simple request.
I love your videos. I seem to have missed something. What happened to you solar hot water shower on the roof?
Richard Wasserman he was unable to get it secured to the roof without excessive movement so for safeties sake he removed it for now
Do you ever miss the van Eric? lol I love the van series.
I hope you didn't forget the Budweiser plant in St.Louis.
What do you use to hold your camera when walking and what type of camera do you use ? Just curious
what about the solar shower?
I grew up in WI it don't get nice up there till July
what brand and model is that fridge, toilet, etc?
What is the pump thing called on your water jug?
On litter box door put hinges on opposite side
james moore Good idear
james moore I was thinking the same thing. You know what they say about great minds. lol
james moore Or, you could put in a doggy-door flap and take the door off all together. The kind people install in their back doors for pets. This way the litter is always separated from the rest of the living space, and it's a two way flap you can access your stove controls with. :)
when you going to the black hills? if i have time off of work i can go west river and chill with you. im east river SD
eric, why not just mount the heater on the other door where the sticker is?
Upgrade to composting toilet! Empty out the fertilizer ever 3-4 weeks!
Hey Eric, haven´t you said that you are going to install some sort of sink into the kitchen area? Just wondering if you are still going to do that or is the water setup working good enough for you like it is now?. Btw, great video, really like your stuff.
You really stop in KC and get some excellent BBQ and watch a KC Royals Game!!
thanks for the show
what happen to the shower at walmart???
dxdaveft too much hate .... had to take it down
jknocal So is it hateful for someone to want Eric (and Jax) to stay safe by not engaging in behavior that is risky and edgy? Or is it hateful for someone to encourage Eric to engage in edgy and risky behavior so that they can be "entertained"?
glad ur happy Eric :)
What happened to the shower set up on the roof?
Did look a little shady up there. He should try one of those pressure bottle sprayer. They hold about two gallon of water. just a thought
By the way for a CB radio, Here's from an advertiser on your youtube page.

It's for the Galaxy 959 CB with AM and SSB. Cheaper but the Galaxy is considered one of the best.
what fuel mileage are you getting. I would guess around 15 mph.
Road Dog 50 Between 11-12.8
Nomadic Fanatic I wonder if you craigslisted that heavy generator and maybe moved your trash setup out there if that would improve it much. Probably wouldn't be very significant, but I still wonder.
Robert Wimsatt Whoa! Simmer down pork chop. Go read my last sentence again and decide if your big sarcasm rant was warranted.
Pork chop, lolol
Robert Wimsatt HAHA good comeback take his laces out too haha
if u hang ur guitar on the wall make sure u tie it so it cant bounch off good luck
Can the solar panel power the back window air conditioner?
VarietyBacon Yes about 3-4 hours before volts are too low and inverter shuts down.
If you make it up to NW Chicago let me know.
hey eric live zion illinois. so cool you in illinois
Swing up to Chicago and see a Cubs game!
You should do a video in Macomb Illinois
Why not drive a diesel and travel while you work?
lol he took down the showering at walmart video
