I remember when I was young, my dad made me watch this. It kind of became a tradition, and for about 20 or so years we'd always find the time to watch it together, at least once a year. Now this is my first year watching it without him. I love you dad. R.I.P.
I can't believe this movie is gaining popularity only now, a true hidden gem. The clock symbolism as a constant reminder of inevitable doom, Goncharov wrestling with the weight of his sins, everything in this film is so masterfully done and I believe it was truly ahead of its time. The final scene with Goncharov and Andrey never fails to make me emotional, as well as his famous scene with Katya..."If we were really in love, you wouldn't have missed." God, what a movie!
I once forgot the name for this masterpeice and unironically told an entire tf2 lobby to watch "Chonkarov"
this is such an amazing movie, especially when goncharov said "it's gonchin' time" and gonched all over the place
That was the most beautiful scene in cinematic history fr
This is Robert De Niro’s best role. True mastery. Also, Brad Pitt’s film debut as the Sicilian boy on the bike
My dad loves this movie. It came out when he was a teenager and when we immigrated to Britain we would watch it non-stop when I was younger. I kinda got sick of it, but now I feel kinda happy people are recognising it’s mastery .. live long Goncharov ❤
I thought I was the only one whose dad was crazy for this film lol
Finally a trailer that has Sofia in it, she's such an understated character I love her
Yeah, I kinda wish they did more with her. She kinda just props up Katya for the majority of the movie
@@15098D there's a rumor that a lot of her scenes with Katya were cut or shortened because the homoerotic undertones were too overstated for hollywood's liking. There's also that one deleted scene with her and Goncharov that really highlights how similar they are to each other, both being doomed from the start of the film, with Sofia being a lot more aware of it than Goncharov. It's truly fascinating to see these opposed characters from different parts of the same story basically share this fate, with one of them painfully aware of it and the other remaining ignorant. It also adds some much needed explicit emotional consequences to Ice Pick Joe's death by showing us how it's affected Goncharov directly. tbh we were robbed of more sofia content. ig thats what fanfiction's for though
The Director's Cut of the movie definitely gives justice to female cast more and gives time to develop Katya and Sofia, I recommend anyone who hasn't seen it immediately go and compare the differences, Goncharov was too ahead of it's time and a lot of cuts had to be made sadly.
Greatrest mafia movie ever made. So ahead of it's time.
i remember the day my dad actually flat out pirated this movie from the internet to watch it with me. i never really got the hype and why he loved it so much, but upon watching it a few years later? ...wow...the characters??? the story???? this movie was just...yeah it was way ahead of it's time-
This trailer is the best trailer for Goncharov.
My dad showed me this movie years back. Still one of the best movies ive ever seen! I loved the homosexual undertones-
Undertones? You clearly didn't watch the extended version. There are close to 14 minutes of pure gay sex and kissing
As many times as I've seen this movie, I've never seen a trailer for it. Knowing what's behind all the shots doesn't make it any less exciting though.
it's been so long since the last time I watched it I almost forget all the plot. It will be incredible to watch it again and live the experience like the first time
Stunning movie, I reccomend you watch it. My sister and I watch it whenever we are feeling sad. Great plot.
To cry more, I assume. Katya's death scene gets me every time
Matteo JWHJ 0715 was a seriously underrated director, taken too soon...it's just a shame. RIP
This is my favorite movie I’m so glad this masterpiece is finally blowing up (/j)
Dude I nearly forgot about this movie. I love it to bits istg
YOOOO I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS UNDERRATED MOVIE TO BECOME MAINSTREAMM I remember when I visited my grandpa, me and my cousins from my Dad's side watched that movie together. It's safe to say that our lives have never been the same after that masterpiece...
Katya best girl
yo! hell yeah! crazy you could restore the original trailer this well! kudos
