Seeing the band all together while being old is so sweet. It really points at how strong their friendship truly is and how they all see their future together.
This such a sweet metaphor for growing, experiencing love in its purest and primal form, and keeping the honest and most real friends close to you. Notice as a old man he listening to this song in the headphones (representing him reliving his life through memories and music ) Caring for a girl he would do anything for but regretting, the decisions he made ( notice the walking over tables, and breaking glass) , as to say they are stumbling through the up and downs of relationships, but eventually loving and growing together. As a he grows he learns from those mistakes and as he grows older he just falls more in love with her to lose her. She stays in his memories through music and dance and his friends stuck with him through thick and thin cherishing him and how far they have come. A story about loving with your whole heart and holding the ones you hold dear close because we don't forever on this planet.
I named my daughter Caroline 💗 she was born 3 weeks ago and had to stay in the intensive care for a few days because she was a preemie. I sang this to her a lot while she was in there. This song is so special to me.
it's so appropriate considering how the chorus is, for the most part, about choosing a name just because it feels right. you totally gave the song more meaning by adding your own, which is what music is all about. It 100% works as a song sung to a daughter. I'm gonna think of this every time i listen now, it makes me so fuckin happy
I don't even have words for what this band means to me. It always coming down to the four of them in the end is such a beautiful sentiment to friendship and where friends can take one another when they hold each other close and believe in the vision of themselves and the others. People may not like this band for the style of music or whatever other reasons, but the true, genuine, incredibly real love shared between the bandmates should always be recognized and respected, because I don't think I've ever seen a band do it the way they do, they're true soulmates and it's beautiful.
This is so classy. It’s such an appropriate video because I think this band has a lot of older fans as they are the first musical act in many decades to make truly timeless music. There are classic bands with music bound by and defined by an era. Then there are bands like The Beatles, The Stones, Everything But The Girl, Steely Dan and The 1975 who make timeless music. There are others who make timeless music but it is a short list and I can’t say that there was anyone on this list since the 80s. There have been some very good indie rock bands and some neo Soul bands who had classic songs but they were hit or miss. The 1975 writes consistently stellar music and they always present great theater. They are inspiring so many younger musicians to think bigger. And the bond this band has is amazing as well. The dance sequences in this are just, it’s cinematic.
@@TiffanyMarie317 As a fan of both of them, I am still hopeful. I keep going back to how they find each other at the end of the Fortnight video, and to the following lyrics: "Just say when, I'd play again" (My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys) and "Still alive, killing time at the cemetery, never quite buried' (loml).

Old Matty reminiscing about his lover hits different. The abandoned ballroom and his old appearance suggest that everything has lost its glamour through time, but the purity of the short-lived romantic encounter still holds the same place in his heart.
I remember that heart-pounding feeling I had while watching Heart Out's vid for the first time. The gorgeous aesthetic of their spacey sound mixed with the nostalgia within their videos. 8 years later as a 25-year-old, I still get that feeling all over again in the deepest pits of my stomach. UGH! Cheers to you guys at your very best (yet). 💗
When you get to 59 years of age.....like me. It hits home. And the fact that it hit home .......shows the cleverness and the emotion of this video. Probably the best single video, they've done. ....and, as always, they do nothing without provoking either laughter or sadness.....or both. it's subtle genius as they always seem to be. There is no other group like them in the world.
My name is Caroline and this song is so incredibly special to my husband and I. We were together for 3 years during college and then broke up... the fear of commitment at a young age is hard. He actually went through a dark time after our break up. We got back together and 4 yrs later, we're now married. Thank you for this song.
Our dad's never imagined seeing bands like Fleetwood or The Eagles in their 65+ but someday we will see our favorite lads of The 1975 there. This makes me excited for the era!

This was one if the best music videos ive seen in awhile. Matty done it again and the whole band all old and shit so cute. No one really makes music videos anymore, or at least I feel like people don't seek them out as much. It's such a creative art form
This is one of the better-produced music videos of the last 5 years!!!! The song alone is absolutely gorgeously written, but the video director nailed this music video with a perfect blend of nostalgia, love, loss, and growing old while maintaining a youthful spirit of lasting memories from a life that's been otherwise potentially mundane. This is like that smell that reminds you of a moment of pure joy or that car ride to the concert 2 hours away with friends you are afforded to reminisce with. Those whom you've shared the moment despite the growing empty chairs at the table of life.
Just heard this song on SNL...amazing. I think I have a new favorite band to add to my list. If this band had come out in the 1980s or 1990s man they would be so huge
New fan here. Thank you for making all my 44 years of listening to music come together as 1 band. I love many genres of music, but your sound takes me someplace (a village) where I visit all my favorite memories of music. I hear so much and have been listening to you every day since I first heard you ONE MONTH ago. Grow old together, I hope I'm there for it!
yes, that's quite true. as a child of the 70s there is something nostalgic about their music. My 20yo daughter introduced me to them. I turn off the Taylor Swift and gave them a listen, and now I am rewarded with rumours of a collab... things just work out.
GET YOUR ASS TO THEIR LIVE SHOWS! Best I've EVER seen. If you haven't been, you're seriously missing out. Saw them in Indianapolis last night and it was so much better than any other concert I've ever been to in 3 decades. The production and curation of the show is unreal. I'll never miss another show of theirs when they come to town.
A true masterpiece, this one Is on my top 5 faves from the new album!Matty makes me go feral whenever he dances, idk why🔥 & damn Ross looked so fine too at that old men's lunch.
I’m 58 and I never heard of this group at all never heard any other songs till a few months ago apparently I’ve been living in a cave or music can hit different generations and that’s I guess what being a success means in the music industry. I’m glad I found them. RUclips isn’t that bad after all.
It was Christmas time 2013. My niece Abby said “Jenn, I think you will love this song” It was Settle Down. 7 concerts later, one trip to the 02 in London, I’ve been obsessed. They are so on another level of great music ❤
This video has to be one of their greatest yet, the bit at the end nearly bought a tear to my eye, when the woman fades in to darkness and you see him old and sad, but then you see him happy with the love of his closest friends… a love that will never die. I feel like everyone can relate to this feeling a bit
When I bought their debut album, it blew me away. I will have to admit though, I didn't think almost a decade later they would be one of the most important bands of a generation. I love how they continue to embarrass critics that tried to bury them early in their career.
Amazing video, really solidifies Mattys life I think, like he’s always got romantic relationships that never quite work out, and no matter how sad, lonely and dire things look he’s always got his boys.❤️
Fabulous song and amazing video. I am a new fan - just saw them on SNL and was blown away. I can't believe that I have missed this band for all these years. Great stuff.

The first time I heard this song I was really hook and I couldn't help replaying it over and over again. The ending of the music video has moved my heart 😭🤍
Growing old with them also, I was just 14 when I first heard of them. Now I’m almost 21 and I feel like they will always be a part of me. George, Matty, Adam and Ross, thanks guys❤
I’m so happy that people are still making good music. Wether or not it’s true about the rumors, TS and 1975 could make spectacular music. BUT IN ALL HONESTY. 1975 is awesome all on their own.
You guys are exceptional, I first got into you after your 2013 album and I’ve never left. Love your music, your great people and have been a shinning light in my life musically. If by any chance I ever meet you guys in the street, you’ll have my endless praise and thanks for who you are, what you do and the great memories you gave me through your music. Much love and God bless 🙏❤️
I first saw them 16/17 years ago under one of their other names and they ain’t lying they really are at their very best! Watching them live in 2023 was just as euphoric as it was in 2006!
I have been a fan of this band since the beginning of their music career. It has been amazing to witness how they have grown and flourished over the years. Watching this music video brought me to tears. I was literally sobbing. If you are an old fan, you will understand why. Even though this was a concept for the music video, seeing the band members in old man's prosthetics made me realize how genuine their love for each other is. If someday things might change for the band, I hope their friendship will always stay the same. Nothing will change because I want to grow old with them too. And if that time comes, I will always look back to the time when I started listening to their music and where I started with them.

I didn't really know what was going on last summer, but now reading about it man was the hate intense, cruel, and so unnecessary.
IMO Matty is adorable and the two of them totally make sense. 🫶🙏
@@TiffanyMarie317 yay another understanding Swiftie! 🙏🏽💖
It was awful... The vitriol they faced and intense public scrutiny would have been unbearable for even the strongest of minds.
I'm wishing love and light to Matty and the band. In fact, I hope it elevates interest in The 1975's music even more! 🎉🎶
Simply the best song of the album. So deep meaning lyrics and so powerful melody.
The lyrics are not deep. Great tune though.
@@greenblue6935 at least for me that I’ve been through some similar feelings these last weeks, the lyrics turn to have a deeper meaning
@@greenblue6935 I think it might be about their friend Caroline that passed away from suicide, so definitely meaningful!!
Old Matty reminiscing about his lover hits different. The abandoned ballroom and his old appearance suggest that everything has lost its glamour through time, but the purity of the short-lived romantic encounter still holds the same place in his heart.
I’ve seen them live about 7 times now. Since 2014. I’ve practically grown up with their music. Best band ever.
Best music video I've seen in years.
I also just learned that Matty refuses to charge fans for meet and greets. Dude is a gem.
He’s so uplifting and funny.
Indeed I love them since 2013 😁👍
Their videos are enthraling short stories., made into movies
My name is Caroline and this song is so incredibly special to my husband and I. We were together for 3 years during college and then broke up... the fear of commitment at a young age is hard. He actually went through a dark time after our break up. We got back together and 4 yrs later, we're now married. Thank you for this song.
I’m another Caroline and I’m a Pisces 😊
sounds like he got it right this time
Our dad's never imagined seeing bands like Fleetwood or The Eagles in their 65+ but someday we will see our favorite lads of The 1975 there. This makes me excited for the era!
I've been suicidal
You've been gone for weeks
If I'm undecided
Will you decide for me?
Baby, I'll do anything that you wanna
I'll try anything that you wanna, I'll try
'Cause you're on my mind
Oh, Caroline
I wanna get it right this time
'Cause you're always on my mind
Oh, Caroline (oh-oh)
Getting suicidal?
It's honestly not for me
I'm gettin' on my nerves
By gettin' on my knees
Getting cucked, I don't need it
The place I want to be
Is somewhere in your heart
Somewhere guaranteed
'Cause baby, I'll do anything that you wanna
I'll try anything that you wanna
I'll find myself in the moonlight
'Cause baby, I want everything that you wanna
And I've tried to just be me like a thousand times
But you're on my mind
Oh, Caroline
I wanna get it right this time
'Cause you're always on my mind (always on my mind)
Oh, Caroline (oh-oh)
Oh, I've tried to find
Another name a thousand times
But the only one that rhymes (always on my mind)
Is "Oh, Caroline"
Just give me one more chance tonight
'Cause I don't want to waste my life without you, baby
No, I don't want to waste my life without you, baby
Oh, Caroline
Get it right this time
Always on my mind
I wanna get it right
But you're on my mind
Oh, Caroline
I wanna get it right this time
'Cause you're always on my mind (always on my mind)
Oh, Caroline (oh-oh)
Oh Caroline The 1975
The 1975 Songs
This was one if the best music videos ive seen in awhile. Matty done it again and the whole band all old and shit so cute. No one really makes music videos anymore, or at least I feel like people don't seek them out as much. It's such a creative art form
Agreed they were my life when MTV was videos!
What do you mean they're old they are all in their prime even though the band has been out a long time lol
At least once a day I remember and miss a Caroline from 35 years ago. This song has helped.
Sounds painful... Twin flames never go out.
So sorry ... Twin flames never go out.
@@aquabonsu1 thank you
They're story is so heartbreaking it makes me sick. Artistically they are so alike 😢

The boy can dance!
this was his “The 1”, digging the grave all the time cuz he couldn’t stop thinking about her and what they had 💔💔
Bravo(comment).
yes, that's quite true. as a child of the 70s there is something nostalgic about their music. My 20yo daughter introduced me to them. I turn off the Taylor Swift and gave them a listen, and now I am rewarded with rumours of a collab... things just work out.
And here I thought Matt and Taylor are gonna be making songs together. Only to find out they were writing songs about each other.
I see it as writing songs to each other, like passing notes in class
@@lb6536 it feels So High School
Top 3 best 1975 songs!
Such a smooth rhythm, such a beautiful melody
This gives off a joyful happiness that I can’t explain
GET YOUR ASS TO THEIR LIVE SHOWS! Best I've EVER seen. If you haven't been, you're seriously missing out. Saw them in Indianapolis last night and it was so much better than any other concert I've ever been to in 3 decades. The production and curation of the show is unreal. I'll never miss another show of theirs when they come to town.
Saw them 2 nights ago in Baltimore..couldn't agree more!
And ditto! I've been to hundreds of concerts. This is seriously one of my top favorite of all time. Amazing to say the least.
Thanks for letting everyone know. They're unbelievable. ❤️
Discovered this band in 2013 when I was 18, now I'm 27. Yep, growing old with you guys!!! 🫶
Oh you're so lucky! I'm 27 too and I've only just discovered them. I'm devastated, I missed out on them for all those years :(
A true masterpiece, this one Is on my top 5 faves from the new album!Matty makes me go feral whenever he dances, idk why🔥 & damn Ross looked so fine too at that old men's lunch.
It is a masterpiece
I’m 58 and I never heard of this group at all never heard any other songs till a few months ago apparently I’ve been living in a cave or music can hit different generations and that’s I guess what being a success means in the music industry. I’m glad I found them. RUclips isn’t that bad after all.
I crazily love this mixture of 80's taste sounds and their own ones
I was fortunate enough to watch this song played live in SF a week or so ago. It was absolutely magical
It was Christmas time 2013. My niece Abby said “Jenn, I think you will love this song” It was Settle Down. 7 concerts later, one trip to the 02 in London, I’ve been obsessed. They are so on another level of great music ❤
I would give my kidneys to see them live again such an experience
I‘m thrilled that Oh Caroline got a music video. It’s definitely been a favorite from the album!
This video has to be one of their greatest yet, the bit at the end nearly bought a tear to my eye, when the woman fades in to darkness and you see him old and sad, but then you see him happy with the love of his closest friends… a love that will never die. I feel like everyone can relate to this feeling a bit
Delicate🎶🎶
When I bought their debut album, it blew me away. I will have to admit though, I didn't think almost a decade later they would be one of the most important bands of a generation. I love how they continue to embarrass critics that tried to bury them early in their career.
Amazing video, really solidifies Mattys life I think, like he’s always got romantic relationships that never quite work out, and no matter how sad, lonely and dire things look he’s always got his boys.❤️
I’m 54 y/o and I love this band I’m like is that ok I’m old lol …can’t help it 😂 so talented
Loved the song when it was released, loved the music video even more.
This song is such a vibe.
if this song doesnt move you let me tell you: You are a rock

I don't want to be THAT person but the girl, and the dress, and the dancing. Delicate much? 😊❤
And the fact that she's really tall. ❤

It's spot on. Just an aside that 1940s style of dancing reminds me of a Bridges and Harry Styles video...was it Treat People with Kindness?
He was known to give Styles the shiv - that same invitation to the dance could be a mock.
The sound of the 1975 meets the sounds of Phil Collins? I’ve never loved anything more!
At the heart of the 1975 will always be their friendship and I can’t wait to grow old supporting them
I get teary eyed every single time I watch this. No joke. I love it.
I mean... I totally get it Ty. You go girl.
Fabulous song and amazing video. I am a new fan - just saw them on SNL and was blown away. I can't believe that I have missed this band for all these years. Great stuff.
seeing guys while being old led to the idea that it would be absolutely precious when thirty years later they’ll be still sitting together creating another gems
At their very best now and forever. The greatest of all time.
Here in 2024, jammin for the 20,000th time. ❤❤❤. Who’s with me?

The first time I heard this song I was really hook and I couldn't help replaying it over and over again. The ending of the music video has moved my heart 😭🤍
I love this song.
Every moments are brilliant, felt sadness and happiness at the same time.
hope the guys stay together FOREVER.
When The 1975 drop it's always a great weekend
i LOVE the buildup at the end, then the last chorus kicking in with all the added instruments!! literal art
They always put so much work into their music videos and I appreciate that so much
This song means everything in life.
Been listening for 10 years now🔥🔥🔥 crazy I was just in middle school now my kids listen to the same songs‼️
これから何度も聴いていきます。
Growing old with them also, I was just 14 when I first heard of them. Now I’m almost 21 and I feel like they will always be a part of me. George, Matty, Adam and Ross, thanks guys❤
Its like it was foreshadowing taylor and matty vibes 💓💓💓💓💓💓
They were sending each other messages…
Something about this video feels delicate 😌
Isn't isn't isn't isn't ~~delicate~~😉🤭
I’m so happy that people are still making good music. Wether or not it’s true about the rumors, TS and 1975 could make spectacular music. BUT IN ALL HONESTY. 1975 is awesome all on their own.
I'm ecstatic that this track got a mv. This is by FAR my favorite off the album.
Oh Caroline is a true masterpiece
This band was able to save my life in 2016 when my heart was broken as F after an 8yr relationship ended!
I truly enjoy The 1975 and the music they make!!
Much love and God bless 🙏❤️
this makes me so happy and so sad at the same time. i’m in love with it
I first saw them 16/17 years ago under one of their other names and they ain’t lying they really are at their very best! Watching them live in 2023 was just as euphoric as it was in 2006!
WOW a true OG fan!! So jealous!
Delicate vibes
Right???
So fucking right here after TTPD
You guessed it
I have been a fan of this band since the beginning of their music career.
