Honestly I think Big Finish works best BECAUSE it's not the main show. They have a team of writers dedicated enough to write stories in only audio forms and can pump out so much volume over the years that the show can't. They can use old Doctor's or just get someone that sounds like them giving near total freedom. At the same time, because they aren't the show they have to work within the confines of the show (for example: if Chibnall wrote for big finish then he couldn't straight change the origin of Gallifrey, the time lords, the doctor, and completely ignore Missy contribution to the Master's character). Plus with the TV show there's so much more politics and pandering and pleasing. The audio dramas are JUST made by people that love Doctor Who for people that love Doctor Who. They don't have to worry about putting on a public image for all the people that don't give a crap about the show other than to scrutinize and politicize it.
@@vullord666 Agreed. At this point most of the Doctor Who stuff I experience is audio. @@radioactivecheesenowinnucl4746 Man, I’ve only recently found out about Big Finish’s work and I’m starting to think that maybe I should try getting into them. I’ve never tried any before though, in fact I’ve never even listened to an audiodrama before, so I’m wondering where to go if I wanted to give them a try, and if there are any in particular you would recommend for someone starting to get into them?
Yeah Nicholas Briggs brings this up in the behind the scenes CD. Basically he gave these Cybermen’s voices a mix of Nightmare in Silver with Earthshock and with Mondasian Cyberman-esque delivery. He thought that having them speak in a monotone voice as they normally do would sound too boring given how much dialogue the Cybermen have in this boxset.

A psychopathic manchild playing a whimsical old man. I feel like Jacobi’s Master would have been a fantastic foil for Matt Smith’s Doctor
