@@clam6254 yeah, I go easy on Chibnall’s era compared to other fans because I got some entertainment out of it, but most of what I got out of it was thanks to the talented people working *on* it in spite of Chibnall and not because of him. I would love that Master if he were set before the professor tbh, because his sadism feels like a nice transition into what the Simms Master does, but obviously that’s not what we got. HERE! COME! THE DRUMS! will forever be my favourite line in Doctor Who and I have absolutely no idea why I've latched onto it. But I use it way too much in real life.
Doctor Who's ability to merge music seemingly inappropriate to the situation makes them rather memorable, I find (see also: the Earth burning to Britney Spears' "Toxic")
If you ever make another one of these, I'd love to see this one line from Dark Water: "My heart is maintained by the Doctor." "Doctor Who?" "Doctor CHANG!!"
John Simm's master is vengeful and angry, but lacks the moral compass of a companion like the doctor. It's a reflective relationship Missy is almost self aware with how clever she is, and is definitely the most devious master. Again, a reflection of 12's darker streak Then Sacha Dhawan I think is the most evil master. His plans and team ups seem way more intense than previous masters. These are my takes on the nu who ones at least. Best will always be Roger Delgado
I saw someone on twitter say that Sacha Dhawan's Master is a perfect thematical continuation of the Master's story. Missy was on the path to redemtion until she met Simm's Master, which made her kind of relapse into evil and Dhawan's Master has now basically given up on being good. At least that's what they said, I have to admit I stopped watching 13's run after The Tsuranga Conundrum
fucking love him bothering to still tell each of his 'Master Race' selves on Earth about his actions. I like to think it's not just a show for the Doctor but because he so viciously loves himself. We saw at the end of the last episode, he waves to each of his neighbor selves. He's like: "Hi Master! >:D" "Oh, hello there, Master! >:D" "Looking fine this day, Master! >:D"
I always thought that even beyond the 'Master Race' shot below the belt the 'Earth is just me 6bn times over' was a little stupid. Like, sure you made the president into a clone but how do you justify the clone keeping all the knowledge of security codes and things that the real president had? How do you rationalize the clones having the same memories as their preceeding humans exactly? If they're clones they really ought to be blank slates or just have the master's exact memories, which doesn't invalidate the whole 'We will destroy you because I am everyone' angle because it just means you've got to scrabble around and find all the sticky notes the nuclear codes were written down on and such.
The Master does adore himself. In the audio drama Masterful where the Harolc Saxon Master uses a Time Scoop to gather his past incarnations he suggests "Let's all throw our TARDIS keys in a bowl and see what happens." You could have replaced Missy with any other incarnation of the Master on that ship and they'd still probably dance.
Master: That must be them, no one else would be on course for earth at a time like this. Ogron: We're on a course for Earth. Master: WELL NATURALLY, BECAUSE WE'RE THE ONES CHASING THEM, MY GOD!!!
8:50 "I owe Davros a muffin basket..." Is the funniest take I've heard in a while. I get it's sarcasm, but the fact Alt-Master adds onto a stupid quip with arguably an even more stupid remark just kills me. Every version of The Master is on the same page, and always funny.
The Master has got to be my favorite villain of all time across everything. Every other villain takes themselves too seriously, but The Master is purely evil and also a goof ball. He has every right to be angry at the universe so you kinda sympathize at moments, but overall he's just fun to watch.
Not canon and, alas, American, but there's an RPG series called Eric's TBD RPG where Taliesin Jaffe plays the Master in a Doctor Who RPG, and honestly his performance ranks up there with the likes of Simm for my favorite Master. One line in particular ("I have missed being lectured by you. Go on, tell me more, tell me I'm bad") even kinda sounds like Simm's tone
Shame there's not a lot of Beevers' audio stuff here. He really is a gem. Lots of fun stuff from the beginning of the Short Trip "I Am The Master" that would fit right in here.
7:56 is really ironic. The audio is called “The bekdel test”, but the clip from it is actively failing the test. Two women (who sometimes have to be named) talking about something other than a man.
1:27 is that one really the Master? 'cause I could swear they confused him with a Bond villain.... Hey, they even got The Master to fight James Bond too, didn't they? The thing that makes me giggle in that shot isn't what he's saying, it's how the time rotor keeps wobbling. Audibly.
3:34 I’ve not watched really all that much of 13s run, but… there has to be some context to that right? He’s not just trying to tell me modern computers have a fetish for being swallowed.
I mean in the latest episode he made a whole thing out of shrinking people down and swallowing them whole. Plus he was a cat once. What I mean to say that The Master is a furry voreophile and it's canon. 😂
The rivalry between The Doctor and The Master is similar to the rivalry between Metal Gear Solid's Ocelot and Snake... two brother bickering about who is better lmfao
