Because a lot are frauds trying to make a quid. But some are genuine. Dismiss it all you want. I've lived through some horrible things in my life and I have seen felt heard felt the spirits of those I saw who died. We do live on in another form.

Perhaps the owners of this purportedly haunted castle thought it would be amusing or profitable to cast (pun semi-intended) the role of "the girl with the broken leg" in order to amuse the television crew. If so, it was a successful gambit.
Call me cynical, but it's always places where you can visit, and/or stay, and otherwise spend your money.
Having a pub that's haunted is akin to having a church with relics.
