David Mitchell would make the argument "How can it be the best of me if it's the second video?"
@@Thiscommentwillselfdestruct Most of these videos had Fry as the presenter, so good chance a few pre-date the old Best Of video
@@Thiscommentwillselfdestruct You'd have a point if all these clips hadn't been from before Sandi took over.
James Bailey chill out you petty sod
@@Thiscommentwillselfdestruct the IRONING?
@@Thiscommentwillselfdestruct oh i know what it meant, i assumed it was a spelling mistake, like a normal person
I wish I had David Mitchell's ability to get smarter when angry. My brain just shuts down when I get frustrated.
The man's an intellectual Hulk
Mine is just always off so i dont need to think about it.
He doesn't really get smarter, just more argumentative. Which is logical, seeing how emotions can affect your motivation.
The problem is that no one bothers to listen to your well thought out argument because the person you're arguing with is probably too small minded to care
He doesn’t get smarter when angry. He’s just that smart 😏
"There's nothing funny about making people laugh" is just a genius joke in that context and it was delivered perfectly.
Lmfao
it's exactly what a teacher would say to a class
It’s the other side to the joke, “They all laughed when I said I wanted to be a comedian; well, they’re not laughing now”
David’s excited proud face when he gets the answer right is cute
When he gets the teacher pet bonus says he doesn't feel cool then gets the bonus again and the size of the smile on David's face says he's feeling pritty special
I thought that was his embarrassed but trying to be polite face
7:33 8:25
Given the number of times I've seen Jimmy Carr correct his guest for poor grammar and pronunciation, I think he fully deserved that correction.
this is a young Jimmy Carr, back when he was still irish
he even once said "expresso" on a cats does countdown episode, it's still bugging me to this day that no one called him out then
I wish someone would correct Steven when he (or any of the others) mispronounces kilo-metre!
@@opentls It wasn't in the same episode, but in a later one Susie does tell him he says it wrong (she was doing a bit about common mispronunciations).
@@slimjim227 But, in British English, it is correctly pronounced kilo-metre. In American English it is kilom-eta.
The subtle Steven + David bromance is classic. David's looked upto Steven for years, and Steven finds David hilarious.
When Stephen finally passes on (and hopefully it won't be any time soon), David is his natural successor.
@@michaelritchie2968 bloody hell, bit morbid
As Jay Foreman sang
"David Mitchell, David Mitchell, you'll replace Stephen Fry when he dies"
David Mitchell is the halfway point between Stephen Fry and Jon Stewart in my opinion.
And of course they're both posh twats!
"I've gone along with him and now I'm frightened" is the most relatable statement I think I've ever heard from David. xD
David is trying so hard to not be overly pleased to be made teacher's pet twice lol
I love the lava lamp section they managed to capture the essence of school
Jimmy- the kid who doesn’t listen to instructions
Alan- the kid who causes chaos
David- the nerdy kid paired up with the chaotic kid
Stephen-the teacher who clearly has a favourite and barely has control of his student who love it when he cocks up
Will it blow up??
Hopefully
I’ve gone along with it and now I’m frightened
"Auguste Escoffier died in?"
David: I can't remember the exact date-
Alan: A house fire!
Perfectly tracks.
I love how much Stephen Fry genuinely adores and is delighted by David Mitchell
David Mitchell 2: Angry Logic boogaloo.
Hermitcraft 🤔
tag 2: electric boogaloo
Elengry Logaloo
oh. Eyyy! The worlds of QI and Hermitcraft collide
David Mitchell 2: Logic Harder
I see David’s wearing his special dressing gown.
David: "ITS NOT MY SPECIAL DRESSING GOWN ITS JUST A DRESSING GOWN!"
Rob: "It's David's special dressing gown"
QI x HIGNFY crossover joke, youll get a teachers pet for that one
@@HarrisonBowman "it's not like I think it's got a personality" 🤣
@@femcelgirlfren It's from WILTY 😉

David Mitchell’s passion for biscuits is heroic
George Harrison would love him

"All names are made up" is not just funny, but also valid from the scientific point of view. Much like the Fry & Laurie skit on Tricky Linguistics.
"language is the breath of God..."
I've also heard that all *words* are made up.
@@davep8221 yes, language is conventional.
9:50 I love at how this moment the show was about to become just David and Stephen having a brainy conversation but they had to stop themselves lol
"All names are made up."
*Several people are typing...*
"Dear BBC... "
Is he not right?
Evidence first • 12 years ago your name confused me for about 3 seconds
Thor has entered the chat
*m'kælarh is typing*
"In a sense, all names are made up." what a genius observation.
At 7:30 David actually looks so proud of himself, it's so wholesome :D
He's over the moon here 10:10
Well, he did a podcast about the theme earlier, sooo .... he's funny as hell too.
"I met this bloke at the party, he stank, and when I asked him what he did, said I proved 1+1 Equals 2"
That part always kills me, because it's not like he did a scientific experiment where he finally discovered 1+1=2, Russel just wrote a formal set-theoretic proof of the theorem. The reason it's special isn't because we weren't certain 1+1=2 before (obviously we were), there just hadn't been a formal mathematical chain of logic that starts from basic assumptions and ends with the conclusion that 1+1=2 before because nobody did it before. It's like Euclid's Elements; it's not like they didn't know that in a triangle the sum of any two angles is less than 180 degrees, it just hadn't been formalized before that.
@@slowfreq Alright Swot. (Look guys, Armin’s sucking up to the teachers again!”
@@mattwood1562 aw cmon armin everytime
@@defectivepikachu4582 *insert teacher's pet fanfare*
I love how happy Stephen is when David relays facts in the last bit
9:40
This is such a lovey exchange
Nerdy shit is too often belittled because it makes people feel inadequate but it’s just as wholesome as any other conversation
David is the physical embodiment of the phrase "Well, he's not WRONG..."
Does anyone remember which episode it was when David said something like: "If you're going to die mysteriously, you might as well do it in an ornamental duck pond so a man in a Jag is forced to solve it," in reference to Inspector Morse ?
David Mitchell's Soap Box, Television Credits
@@bethanya9352 thank you so much !
@@Ainennke No problem! I just happened to have watched that clip yesterday.
Hadn't heard that 1 no, but classic
‘Welcom to the logically ruthless world of David Mitchell’ oh Stephen 😂😂
They completely skipped over the fact that Bertrand Russell was the first to determine how we know whether it is or is not Numberwang.
One?
"I went across to the rooms of my very good friend Wittgenstein. I opened the door, and I said to him, quite simply, 'That's Numberwang.' As I remember, he cried."
"In a sense all names are made up, aren't they?" - David Mitchell, 2015
Eat your heart out Thor.
They fully nicked the this for the avengers, they took his idea and did it back to him
"The" - David Mitchell, also 2015
David: "In a sense, all names are made up, aren't they?"
Stephen: Rapidly karate chops his clipboard
David: wouldn't it explode, now?
Alan: hopefully /shrugs/
David: **PANIK**
*shouting* and now I’m frightened
I was hoping this would include the bit where Stephen tells David that the people who work the klaxxon are actually huge Mitchell fans
If Sandi retires from the show when it's still going, I feel like the next presenter should either be David Mitchell or Richard Osman.
Thurston Cyclist Richard Ayoade?
@@jamesh6024 He would be really great. I'd love to see him on the program in any capacity.
Even tho I like osman I can't imagine him at the helm I think David would do well also Richard Ayoade and just for laughs kryten from red dwarf 🤣 well team I have a most interesting puzzle that you will undoubtedly use your vastly incorrect general knowledge to solve and utterly fail... My puzzle is thus how do you get out of a maze? (imagine krytens voice as your read it)
I don't care anymore. I want to see qi hosted by Richard Ayoade
I'm not sure Mitchell would be the right choice. I think his comedic style flourishes best as a wise-cracking panellist, rather than as host.
I think my favourite clip of him was this:
Sandi: does anyone want a nightcap?
Everyone: yes please
*Klaxon goes off for yes*
David: “now, I’d like to ask if the word *no* has a buzzer attached, and then ask precisely how we can fucking win!”
That little banter between stephen and david is so endearing
An insight into David Mitchell: he chooses his biscuits based on their heritage, not on how they taste
david is completely right when he says the lava lamp segment feels like school!
david and alan going "won't it explode now?" "hopefully :D" at 4:26.
jimmy trying to fuck with stephen's lava lamp with the poorly-disguised chaotic energy of a 13 year old boy.
stephen's "no, no you don't!" spoken like a particularly disgruntled primary school teacher.
jimmy immediately whining about stephen being no fun.
all the pieces are there...
now I'm not sure whether I'm jealous of David or Victoria more...
The answer is yes
Both. Both is good
I always said I was devastated when they got married, because I lost my crush and my man crush in one go!
All my angry inner monologues aimed at the massive stupidity that surrounds me on a daily basis is narrated by my brain in his voice.
I read all Douglas Adams books in David's voice.
@@TheZapan99 Hmmm...that's an idea. B/c I've always done some version of Stephen Fry's voice, even before the latest movie came out.
Alan's Shropshire answer was him trying to relive the past glory of his man with two brains answer.
NO ONE can rant like Mitchell and yet still be perfectly logical.
I love how purely happy David looks when Stephen says he is right.
I could listen to Stephen and David talk about literally anything
"that is an absolute perfect answer, David Mitchell"
this is why we love him, why we watch.
I've probably watched this clip 5 times, maybe one day I will be able to quote it.
"Best of David Mitchell"
QI RUclips: We're gonna have to start numbering these.
The most anticipated sequel.
David Mitchell should be the next presenter of QI. His intelligent humour based on knowledge seems a great match to the forever funny STEPHEN FRY.
I'm not sure it would be a good fit for QI, it would really change the tone of the show if the presenter rants at the guests, and he can't get angry about the questions when he's the one asking and answering them. I think he's better as a guest.
Privacy Lover Have you not been paying attention to Sandi and Stephen? They basically chastise, berate, and lecture all the guests (especially Alan) when they get things wrong. He would make a perfect host.
David Mitchell as host with Sean Lock as Alan.
can we all take a moment to appreciate how much of a delight Stephen is
No. Not necessary.
My god, he boursts of pride during that french vs russian service thing
I could listen to David and Stephen converse on odd topics all day.
"In a way, all names are made up, aren't they?" Is my favourite line in this whole compilation.
I've been laughing at the lava lamps for days now. XD Took me right back to science class.
Frys Impression of David is better than Rob Brydons!
I feel Fry should try to say 'posh and repressed, or repressed and posh'
Rob Brydon is a very low bar anyway.
Fry does just about everything better than everyone.
Rob Brydon's is indistinguishable from his Ronnie Corbet.
I'm not sure if that's an incredible achievement. Even Lee Mack's impression of David is usually better than Rob's
The other contestants then beat David up behind the dumpster where Stephen couldnt see
I love how much Stephen is impressed by David. Didn't they both go to Cambridge and also become Presidents of Footlights there?
"Get, OUT!" Pure reaction from Stephen!
This is what i needed in my life
It would have been funny if they had "upgraded" David's button after he was awarded teacher's pet, to the one John Sessions normally gets...."Oooh Sir, Sir, Me Sir!"
2:19 this whole section, particularly David's comment at the end had me in stitches XD
Still so in love with david mitchell
Where the klaxxon got the Best of David Mitchell in part one, David got the best of the klaxxon in part two.
Yes, Dame Nellie Melba's father was called David Mitchell. He is buried in the Lilydale lawn cemetary, in front of a wonderful memorial for his daughter. Her memorial is hedged by Rosemary, and his grave is the largest in the cemetery. As kids we played around her memorial, as we lived almost next door.
"I've gone along with him and now I'm scared" that's what did it for me
Please release a "Best of David Mitchell" 3-12 throughout the year.
Had he not already written a biography, I would say "Logically Ruthless" is a great book title for David.

Give that man an OBE. Funniest person in decades. Imo
Have you ever noticed how dark David Mitchell’s eyes are? like they’re all pupil, completely black, black as ink•
You make him sound like a shark whereas I always think of David Mitchell as an angry British teddy bear
I would LOVE to see Stephen Fry on Big Fat Quiz!
I want to see Stephen Fry & Sandi Toksvig appear on Would I Lie To You.
Preferably on opposite teams.
That would truly be quite interesting.
I think Stephen was David’s number one fan
Was?
he should have said "pi: you might as well eat it"
the "responsible adult" is the only one to knock his over haha
"nothing funny about making people laugh" love Fry 5:26
"This was considered absolutely staggering and REVOLUTIONARY - and it caught on"
Talking about the Russians and the French.
I've found David Michelle very recently but I've become so find of this man.
One of my favourite lines ever, 'I met this guy at a party, he stank, and when I asked him what he did, he said that he proved that 1+1=2'
9:51 i literally almost spit my food at that point
BlackWind “GET OUT!”

And you never will, David. And that's okay.

Alan referring to Stephen as "tumescent"...
this is how i know i am watching British television.
I do believe that this is the first time I have heard the word "tumescent" used in an accusatory tone.
Hes close with the Hobnobs, 1985 they came out!
Apparently you *don't* know how to use the *apostrophe...* 🙃
Well actually, the apostrophe doesn’t matter anymore 🤪🙃🤷♀️

Cara Lama Calm your farm, it was a joke referencing the video. I am studying to be a primary school teacher, so of course I whole heartedly agree that the apostrophe is super important :)
@@marysdanceworld6066 I'm glad someone is still teaching proper English and non-phonetic spelling; it's great to know that someone is still *trying.* As a writer, I despair over the current abysmal levels of illiteracy. Finally a part 2!
Love all Mitchell’s rants
I wasn't too fond of Mitchell when I first started warning QI (my first and only British panel show) but he had grown to be one of my favorites
Yes he's darling
Your warning QI apparently hasn't made a difference.
If Sandi wasn’t host after Stephen left I have a feeling it would’ve been David with his keen intellect
So good he needed a "Part 2".
