Keeping Orchids in bloom longer is very easy once you know a few things! They don't like very hot or very cold temperatures and they need bright shade. Under the desk or away from the light is not a great place to display an Orchid.
Keeping your Phalaenopsis orchid hydrated is crucial, but don't water too often! Roots might really suffer if they become smothered by the water and medium.
Pick an orchid which still has blooms if you want to gift it, that way you know the flowers are fresh and they can last the full amount!

Hi Dani! The white Phalaenopsis at 5:43, can you pretty please tell me the full scientific name of this one? It's my very first orchid and there was no tag. Thank you!!!
My granddaughter received and orchid from her boyfriend. Now I'm the caretaker. Glad I found your videos!!! Great information and orchid care technique! Your melodic voice is both soothing & hypnotic. Thanks for helping me get the best out of "my" orchid!!!
Thank you so much for this series!! It has been a wealth of information! I recently found 2 abandoned orchids in an abandoned store and had no idea where to even start with them. Your video series has been absolutely priceless to me and I have learned so much for my newest plant family members!!
Your voice is so melodic❤,one of the best female voice....
I am agry!❤❤❤
That's exactly what I thought! 😁
Your orchids are so beautiful 🤩 when I look at mine it beyond Compares
I got an orchid for an anniversary present, I love to look at orchids but never bothered to get one cause I didn't want to kill it. Thanks to Miss Orchid Girl's videos I have not only been able to keep it alive but also healthy and extended blooms!! Now I'm interested in acquiring a couple more. Thank You Very Much Miss Orchid Girl!!🥰🧡🌸
Was jgfted an Orchid last month, never knew anything about them, after watching your video I see that I'm drowning and have it in a window which gets the morning sun, the pot has no holes in it. All the flowers are gone but stem is healthy tomorrow I'm replanting. It's such an interesting plant, thank you for such great information on care. Now to watch all your videos and learn, I want to get into growing these and learning everything I can about them, blessings
I got my orchid blooming from January and still today it continues to bloom. Some flowers have bloomed for 7 months already. Amazing. :x
Awww! Thank you! Your tutorials are so thorough and understandable
Hi Danny, thanks a lot for the video. When I started my hobby of collecting orchids, you were the 1st youtuber (and the only one so far) who I subscribed to and your advice have helped me a lot to keep my orchids healthy and understand them better. Thanks a lot for what you are doing and you are doing it in a great way !!! :)
As always, Ms Orchid Girl's topics are very relevant and interesting! Always a great help!
I just received a pot of orchid and really want to keep it as long as I can. Love love your videos. Very thorough and pictures to show examples. Thank you.
You’re videos are really the best I’ve seen. So informative and useful. You really explain better than other people. Most people don’t consider what we may be worrying about, they only say what should be done for care. Do you have videos for other types of flowers/plants?
Yeah...u right , my feeling same as U too 🙋♂️ also her nice voice as well 🤗
My first orchid my husband bought me was a white phaleanopsis that was died blue. We didn’t know. I found the dye spot and did some research. (Eventually I found you, missorchidgirl) It was still trying to bloom a few little buds and then the all the flowers started dying within about two weeks. I was so sad. I think the blue dye was what hurt the plant. I’ve been nursing her for a year and now she has two new leaves. She still hasn’t rebloomed yet and I haven’t repotted her but I will soon. Thank you for your content! It’s great!!!
How is she so far?
@@kounelitsa she’s doing well! The flower spike that wasn’t damaged grew a new piece of stem and has three tiny bulbs! I think one or two more bulbs are forming. Really excited for these little flowers to bloom! :)
Makes sense. I damaged two roots when in bloom(when repotting) and now the blooms fell off within days. Good to know! Thank You so much!
Excellent narration, well modulated voice
I have the picote Phal at 5.09... she has been blooming for 2years
Fantastic presentation and loads of useful information. Phals don't do so well in my outdoor environment but I still do appreciate their beautiful blooms.
Love orchids so beautiful
I love the pots from repotme! They're so sturdy and such pretty colors! I have the pink and green sets
Excellent tips, thank you. I bought two phals a few months ago and didn't realise the flowers had black spots/fungal infection. Now they are both bare and one lost its leaves but I am feeling hopeful!
This has been such a helpful series!!! Thank you!!
My white Phal's blooms lasted many months. They were gorgeous looking like they were made from icing sugar xxx
Thank you for the very comprehensive tutorial! Just got a beautiful orchid from my future mother-in-law as a gift for our engagement and watching your videos so I can take care of it properly :)
Love your videos very informative, I am going to try to grow an orchid. Hope everything goes as well with MI everything as yours
I just learned something new. Thanks for doing this series for new beginners, for that I am.
7:10 Oh my, that intense orange is amasing! Great find for your collection.
1:10 One of my Phalaenopsis kept the same flowers for six months and is always in bloom. It's a multifloral "no ID" hybrid.
Several others reach 4 months flower longevity and 10+ months in bloom per year. At 10:30 is the kind of blooming pattern I get on some Phals with flowers all year.
Many other orchid genera have more interesting flower and plant shapes, but I keep over a dozen Phals because they bloom like crazy if you give them enough light and don't let them dry too much.
I also got interested in "polychilus" Phalaenopsis hybrids for the more intense colors and fragrance. I recall you made a video with a jaw-dropping true red one ( the Sogo Grape "Fireball" ). Does it stay in bloom for long?
Found an "amboinensis-heavy" hybrid that smells oranges with decent flower size. Will see if it stays in bloom long enough to keep.
Hoping artificial lights to fake perpetual Summer will keep the sequential blooming rolling.
Thank you so much for this very informative video…..😘💕
that phal at 6.35 is gorgeous
Yes they were open and the top 6-7 inches of flower stork is turning a yellowie colour as well as the little stems that the flowers are on. So l'm guessing that the yellowing is a sign the flowers are about to fall.
Thank you for your response
Thank you so much 😊
Well done, Danny! Love your work 🎈
Yr voice so sweet n clear 🙂
Yeeeeee make them flowering forever 👍
I know they're not your favourite but i absolutely love phals! You always have the most beautiful ones 😍 i always hope to see them in store and garden centres but never get lucky!
Where do you live? I live in Rochester NY and buy my phals at Trader Joe's. Their growing stock is magnificent. I've had blooms on one mini-phal last 15 months. A real sweetheart!
@@karylfriedman5788 i live in England and sometimes i find gems at garden centres or in supermarkets and home stores but if i want really special ones it has to be online ordering from within europe or good old ebay!
Great videos!!!
I always enjoy your videos!! I was lucky enough to pick up a peloric version of the phalaenopsis that you have at 10:55 !! I wish I could send pictures, I think you would love it as much as I do!
Hi Danni. I have been watching your videos like crazy. I am addicted to the wealth of information provided. Anyway, I have always admired orchids and will now start to collect them. During repotting I decided to place 2 orchids in one ceramic pot. Is this safe, the plants appear to be growing nicely or should I report them in their own pot?
Hi Danni I've just bought 5 pholanopsis orchids from my local grocery store and brought them home at my beach house the next few days we had very hot days, without th thinking I left them on the dinning room table and I used the airconditiner but I didn't know about fruit I had 5 mangos to ripen on the kitchen bench which is close to the orchids since I didn't know why the buds were falling off I started to research why this was happening , i am also a newbie with orchids to my amaze I couldn't believe that airconditiner and put mangos fruit on kitchen bench to ripen. After few days my buds and flowers went soft and started falling off without even opening it's flowers, i need advise how can I stop this bug blast I'll be heading back to my every day home today . But I think I need to finish my green house ASAP so these plants can have a home with more stable temperatures. Your advise is great appreciated. Cheers from Melbourne Australia
Thank you for the video. Lots of important information.
after cutting how long would it take for the secondary spike to start growing?
Hi Dani, your videos are so informative. I have learned pretty much all I know about orchids from your videos. Thank you so much. I do have one question. If you have a Phalaenopsis orchid that does not have roots and you are trying to grow some on the plant. Can you use root hormone? If the plant has no roots at all would that help to get some to grow? Thank so much.
I bought my orchid with 3 spikes but ever since then I can barely make it produce only one spike. What causes a plant to stop producing multiple spikes when it once did? Thanks for your help!
My orchid hasn’t bloomed for 5 years. I’m thrilled It now has 5 buds. What do I do to ensure they flower? 0:21
13:13 What is the name of that orchid? that is amazing great job
Dear Danny , I have Paphio and his flower is getting dry, I think it makes seed. What should I do with seed , can I somehow plant it in my house conditions ? Thank You in advance.I adore your channel 💕🍀🌸🌺
Hi, it's doubtful that it will produce seeds, unless you, or an insect polinated it :) But if it does, here is what you should know ruclips.net/video/TM4Ctd1uEcY/видео.html
@@MissOrchidGirl Ok, thank You, I will wait and see how things going to develop.
Great 👍 information. And Tks for sharing 😍😍👍
Do you need to put pebbles in the bottom of a ceramic pot to let it drain better?
I have a couple of leaves that are healthy but are broken, what do I do ? Thanks Greg ,
How do you bring your orchids inside in cold weather climates? I had mine outside for the Summer.
Should I fertilise my orchids while they are flowering
.
Great information.
My daughter gave me an orchid on Mother’s Day. It’s now July and all the blooms have fallen off of it 😢 it was in full bloom there were no buds on it. What do I do now??
Do you list the names of the orchids anywhere? I would like to buy some of the ones in your videos. Thanks!
Hi, Danny
Enjoying watching your video and learning a lot!
I am in USA and would like your opinion on best fertilizer available.
Many thanks!
Yelena
What is the name of this orange beautiful orchid?? I’ve been looking for orange orchids but it’s hard to find without the technical name
I purchased a Dendrobium Parishii that was shipped to me. I unpacked it, gave it a little water in its original container. Two day later I repotted it in a quality orchid mixture. Now, two days later, most of the leaves are turning yellow! They were a light green when I got it. Can you help?!
I repotted an orchid and now it is blooming well except I neglected it and the leaves and roots are not good They show dehydration
Should I repot it now or wait until the flowers die
Hello Danny, all the phals look so great. Can you please let me know the name of the phal at 7:08 to 7:40? It's so gorgeous and has a vanda like shape.
Thanks a lot for the information contained but at the moment I'm struggling to revive my phalenopsis whose roots are amazing but leaves have gone droopy .I've watered it well changed the medium but I don't see any changes I'm so worries as the droopy leaves were not visible in the polythene bags that was over it when purchased
Hi Deni, if I use a 12oz bottle how much peroxide would I mix with the water
Phalaenopsis' ID @11:09 is Pinyf. 🤗
My had two orchid stems in same pot can i seperate them n how do i ?
Hi Deni I have been trying to find out if I should wash or disinfect pine bark. I have gather some to make my own medium I lots of pine trees from Georgia,USA please help
Hi, if it's good quality and clean, then no there's no need! Disinfecting can degrade bark and good bark is already processed, so better not heat it or treat it with substances!
Hi Dani!
Can You Make a video on saving an ochid with little to No roots? I’ve watched some videos, Where they put the orchid In a glass, so its just touching the water surface, But i’m missing some knowledge and facts like You have In your videos. Please do a video explaining this ❤️
Hi, here you go ruclips.net/video/FUIW1J7z6hU/видео.html
How often do u repot pls
Thank you very much.
Where do you get those awesome clear pots?
Mary Perry Probably her sponsor, Repot Me dot com
Is there a video about the diseased yellowing leaves which are not the bottom pair?
Hi, yes here you go ruclips.net/video/rH0gM0b1YCA/видео.html
I got a pot of orchid as gift. The bud is wrinkly and start falling before bloom. What should I do? Is it overwatering or too dry?
What is the story of the phalenopsis with the signs of sickness ? The one with big yelowish leaves and black spots ? This could be an interesting subject for video's... sickness that can occur in orchids. I recently discovered one of my phalenopsis has some kind of a virus( tospovirus), I knew it's a virus from one of the links from you. I had her for at least 6 months, perfectly fine, nice shiny leaves, and recently she began to develop the strangest patterns on one leaf: one round brownish spot surrounded by spots like half moons ! Needless to say I freak out , isolate her fast and cut the affected leaf ! She is still hanging on, growing roots, but she has an infection on her stem too... that I cannot cut. :/ I am curious what she will do next... maybe developping a keiki, who knows !
Hi, I suspect it's a virus, there are no other explanations for other disease as far as I can tell. The spike is contorted as well, so that orchid will probably be discarded :(
@@MissOrchidGirl Poor of her... it's a shame we can't help them much. I will try to keep mine as much as possible, away from my other orchids and I wash my hands every time I touch her or the pot. I want to see what she would/can do.
I want to rob that phal from your greenhouse at 4:00 at at 4:40 I don't know your camera picks the colour different or it is indigoblue I want to know abut that danny the colour looks gorgeous
5:00 6:43 any idea of the specific name of these two? Are they cattalya? The colors are amazing!
Phals the firsr one is a phal the second one should also be one cuz it says phalanopsis i just dont know if its a hybrid or not...
Should you use a stake to support the stem? I bought a mini from a supermarket and there are 3 stems that bend quite a lot - thank you
Can orchids be a different colors from time to time, like they will be white speckled, & violet one time…then the next time they bloom their completely purple, no white?
I think only if they were dyed and the colour has finally faded.
Hi, I have a mini phal, ,the lower leaf fell off. I notice there is a spike about to grow between fallen leaf and secondary. Would the spike still grow without being between leaves. Your feed back will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I have a few questions in regards to my phalaenopsis. I have 4 that have not been in bloom for almost 3 years now. One out of the for just started getting a spike. I just bought 2 more with blooms on them. When do I fertilize, when in bloom or not in bloom? And what 'am I doing wrong. I love my flowers and I can't get them to rebloom for me. It seems the more I investigate the more confusing it is. I just re-poted my older ones about 3 weeks ago. When do I repot the new ones I bought. Those one seem that they might have a secondary shoot. Please help
DEnise CHavez plants need feeding whenever they are using energy so both when they're growing and when they flower but not when they are dormant. Blooming takes a lot of energy out of the plant's reserves so helping them through this period is important. I use orchid-specific fertilisers, using a high-nitrogen type when they are growing and a lower-nitrogen type when they are producing spikes right through the flowering period. If the plant is doing both then you can alternate the fertiliser type.
I received an orchid as a gift that I repotted while it was in bloom because it had some mold in the medium.. now the flowers and buds are wilting.. please help!
Hi Dannie
I brought a new orchid about a month ago with 5 or 6 blooms on it, l placed it on a window ceil in bathroom on north facing window ( where l have 2 others ). Today 5 blooms have fallen off in short space of time.
What could the problem be ?
Thank you
Hi, if the orchid looks healthy and the flowers were already opened when you purchased it, it might just be the end of the flowers life, nothing to worry about :)
My orchid stems were nice and green but for whatever reason I cut them off :( I really hope it can bloom soon. Im nervous now. I shouldn’t have done so. But my orchids leaves are growing great. Very firm and green
Hi Dani. For how long can a single plant last (lifetime) and how many times (years) can it produce new spikes?
avgonyma1 speaking from my experience, some of my (never repotted!) phalaenopsis plants are more than 15 years old and still going strong! Some of them have had their current blooms since late January.
@@tiff2106 Yeeeah! Congratulations! None of my orchids rebloomed so far, except this year one miracolously did, and formed a new branch from the same stem, that i had cut back a bit. It's still blooming. Not sure what i even did, except moved it from the window to the inside of the room for 2 weeks by mistake, and once gave if general ferilizer. At least now (after watching some of Dani's videos) i know a thing or two about the blooming. I also think tjis plant was extremely healthy at the time i bought it. Other than that, still learning.
My orchids flowers keep falling and closing I don't have it in shade or place where light hits hard just a shade by a window that has curtains. Any advice ??
hello! the top of the leaves of my orchidis green on top but have almost blackish borders on tge bottom of te leaves .. is that how its supposed to be?
Lovely video danny did not need to watch but just love you video lol .
Excellent video! Hey Danny! ;-)
Hey Danni (hope I spelled that right) or anyone really can you tall me what was the orchid at 3:58?.thankyou.
Had the same question in mind when I saw it. I have one like that ... I am not sure of the name but according to my research, it might be phal. Marillion. At least, that's how I called mine :)
@@annamovsesyan6167 thx☺️
I had one that lasted 18 months. Then it died. I was so sad. and it was HUGE! The flowers were 5” across.
Hey Denny what I was asking a few minutes ago was about my phalaenopsis I change the pots after I bought them they're not in clear pots and I don't have extra holes around the pots should I switch them to a clear pot
You need a clear pot, it helps you examine the roots... And holes are a must for every plant. Check her "how to water orchids video".
Clear pots help me see when the orchid is actually dry before rewatering xxx
Is it ok if my roots are a gray ish green color? Is it ok if my leaves are kind of wrinkly or dingy? How can I keep the post healthy?
Make sure to water it prpperly, those are signs of dehydration.
I received a plant in January and the flowers lasted until July.
Hi I have recently repot my phelonopsis orkid that still blooming. The root are still ok, during repot, i sprayed hydrogen peroxide and insert the buck mixture medium into the same pot. I have also sprayed with nutrition. But right after repot, the leave at the bottom started to turn yellow and the flowers started to dry n drop. What is wrong with my orkid, what shld i do to save my orkid.
This sounds like transplant shock. If it was only the bottom 2 leaves that turned yellow it should be ok. She has a video on transplant shock
1st comment live long danny make more videos like this danny
What do I do with all the air routes
Nothing, just spray them with a little water like 2-3 times month
When my Orchid stop bloom what do I do
Do you still use urea free fertilizer for phals?
Hi, yes I still use the MSU fertilizer :)
My problem is whenever I buy an Orchid with flowers and buds and bring it home, after two or three days the flowers and buds dry out and fall off. And I always put my orchid in the "Goldilock" place. So what gives?! 🤔
Hi, probably just a shock from the environment change. The orchid should be just fine though :)
How to water
My boyfriend gifted me an orchid the day before a lengthy road trip back home and i don't think it appreciated the heat in the car :(( I'm losing flowers and some buds pruned up, can it still be saved?? :/
as long as you bring it back home, in a spot that's bright but not direct light and with watering 1-2 a week, you're good :)
Maci Buk thank youu! 🥺
And make sure to inspect the roots, they are often rotten in the stores, you can look up her repotting video and repot yours!
Awsome
I love your videos...I have to say that Phalaenopsis orchids are very very forgiving, if they have problems you are definitely doing something wrong..continuously :(
