I inherited an orchid from my late grandma that was forgotten in her flat for months until we had time to go through her things. we removed all her other plants when she was hospitalised but didn't see this one as it was behind a curtain :/ I had her for a couple months now and have been following your instructions religiously, and today, she opened her first new blossoms after being completely without for months. This is my first orchid and I cannot tell you how much this means to me. Thank you for the time and care you put into these videos, I hope you know that even years after you put them up, they're still helping people a lot
Same here, inherited 3 off my mum when she passed in march, never had an orchid (as I heard they’re not easy to care for) but I feel so much pressure to keep them alive. I have ordered the medium and pots to cut the dead roots and give it a new medium/substrate. Hope your orchids are still happy in their new homes
I will use beauty water fr my alkaline water,I have to orchids given by my son during my rehab,I am interested to have more orchids,I hope I will be successful to take care of them.
I just have to thank you for the time and energy that I am sure each of these videos take you to film edit and post. Your videos have helped me to actually be able to grow orchids! Now, I say “actually” for my family who have in the past, lovingly placed an orchid in a floral basket for Mother’s Day or my Birthday only to have it meet its untimely death way too soon. I must have sent at least a dozen beautiful orchids to my compost pile which broke my heart. One day, while shopping at IKEA, they had these tiny little Phalaenopsis Orchids on sale for 50% off. It was as if they knew the grim reaper of orchids was coming their way so they put them on sale to entice me to buy one. With my little orchid in its 2 1/2” pot, I was determined that this little orchid WILL NOT face the same death as all of her predecessors. As soon as I got home, I searched the internet and thankfully, out of “all of the the experts” your name and site, kept reoccurring. I started with your first video and did not stop until I felt that I had a basic understanding of what I had been doing wrong with all of my past orchids. I am happy to report that my little orchid is now two years old. She has flowered at least four times. She has doubled in size and has been repotted. I selected an untraditional pot choice due to a windowsill that she loves. It is my bathroom window, faces west, and the sill is only 5” deep. So I took a decorative toothbrush holder that is 3” wide oval at its widest point, but it 6” long and 6” tall. MDH, drilled 4 drainage holes at the bottom and this is the pot where my orchid had its rapid growth. Thanks to you, my family gained the confidence to give me orchids as gifts once again. For Mothers’ Day, I received a double pot of two Phalaenopsis. They were in full bloom and following your video on how to care for your flowering orchids, my blooms lasted May - October. I was shocked, but I followed your watering instructions to the letter. My last bloom fell on November 1st. I took a photo a few days before when I sensed its days were numbered. While I still had blooms on my one plant, a new leaf began growing. Now, I am turning to Repot Me to find the perfect pots for these two beauties as their new leaves and new roots are bulging above their tiny store plastic pot. My challenge will be my 5” sill once again. Unfortunately, in my entire house, I do not have another window facing that direction nor do I have an area at this time that I could set up artificial lighting for ultimate growth. I can’t thank you enough for bringing so much joy and beauty into my home with these three wonders of nature. You are and remain, the. Internet’s “ONLY EXPERT”!
What an inspiring story! Thanks for sharing :) This is just the second video that I've watched from this channel so far, but I hope to be as knowledgeable as you've become in caring for orchids and getting one to last much longer than I've had in the past.

Dear MOG Danny... I was gifted my first orchid plant about 6 months ago (Oct 2020). It has been blooming like crazy ever since! Why? Because I found your channel and avidly watched AND FOLLOWED every video you’ve made on Phalaenopsis orchids. Soooo, I only have you thank for her amazing success AND for my new obsession!!! You’re an amazing teacher! Thank you again 👏👏👏 ❤️
@gloriamurray9271 Never use ice cubes. Watch some videos. There are several different ways to grow orchids. In Orchid Bark is one way. Then there's water culture and semi-water culture. I follow Danielle's Orchid Ranch on RUclips and get so much reliable, detailed information from her. She's got years of growing experience and explains everything exceptionally well.
I've had unbelievable success with my phalaenopsis after watching this video. I thought I knew how to water my orchids, but after watching, my orchids have excelled with new flowers and flower spikes. I can’t thank you enough.
I was given an orchid as a gift, and managed to keep it for over 4 months as it bloomed without killing the plant (turning the leaves yellow) as I have done in the past. I only needed to water it every 3 or 4 weeks, very likely because the media held too much water. And that's likely why 95% of the roots were dead and had to be trimmed when I replanted. I replanted in Dark Imperial Orchid Potting Mix, and tamped the media down just as you say to in your video How to repot Phalaenopsis Orchids. I was surprised to see the few remaining green roots turn gray and need watering after just over a week. I figured that might be in part because the media hadn't soaked up enough water in its initial watering. So to water this time I placed the pot into a bowl of water as you shown in this video, but the media floated up and became loose and the plant fell over! I assume that's because there are so few roots holding it together, so I will now only pour the water over the top and let it drain immediately. But I'll catch the water so I can repeat the action a number of times. I tamped the media down again as I slowly removed the pot from the bowl of water, and hope it holds firm this time.
I struggle with keeping plants alive. I was given a beautiful orchid for my birthday and am determined to keep it alive and make it thrive. I just ordered a new slotted pot and potting mix from repotme and now have notes on watering. Thank you for all of these amazing videos!
The biggest key is finding the right place for light and for me with my yard and location, that means moving the plant during the year. In the winter in South florida, I can move my orchids outside except for a few cold weather nights they come inside. for most jungle orchids is to hot in the summer here. I move them inside then. For me watering is moving them into the rain for a little while but in winter with low humidity I spray my orchids daily with a little mist. They will grow air roots from that and then its easy to see like she say when they turn green and your good. We do have orchids here and they are suited for the weather. Most they sell are from the cloud forest. They are used to being wet. Its is also common for the weather to be between 50 and 80 degrees year round with little variation that near the the equator.
Hi Danni(sp?). I am so impressed with your videos. With all your recommended practices you provide thoughtful, reasoned comments to help guide us. I've been a vegetable gardener all my life, but orchids have always been a bit of a mystery to me. I finally decided to do some research, and your videos are providing me with me with an excellent education on all things orchid. I can't wait to put everything I'm learning from you into practice with our household orchids. Thank you so much!
I use rain water once a week and my orchid has flowered for months then the flowering finished so I cut the stems down and now I’ve got a new sprout coming through
@@grace4uinhim425 Holly my orchid, yes I’ve named her as my partner gave her to me in December she is looking so healthy and I’ve not used any orchid feed what did ever, I know your orchid will be ok so no need to wish you good luck, I’ve cut the old flower stem 2 times since I posted my comment and she’s got another new flower stem so any day now she’ll be flowering and it’s my first time of ever owning an orchid
I am from Hong Kong and we live in small apartments which are perfect for small pots. I also had my first orchid and these videos are amazing and made my orchid a healthy one!
Dear Miss orchid girl, Thank you so much for your amazing videos! You are the reason for my renewed interest in orchids. Your voice is soothing, and helps me when I am stressed, (often, lol) so thank you, girl, for your videos.
I was gifted my first orchid 5 years ago and I changed its pot every year and had been using garden soil blends and it grew very big and hearty…until this year; I saw yellowing on leaves and black spotting & had 4 flower buds that dropped where the base of the stems were wilting. It’s almost in full bloom now, & know transplanting is not recommended: but my local garden center specialist told me I needed to get the roots out of the dirt. So I moved forward with the transplant. I chose the moss as my new medium and drilled 2 extra holes so there’d be 3 nice sized center holes on the bottom of my ceramic pot for better drainage and lined the inside outer lip of where I couldn’t drill any holes with stone & some bark so the water wouldn’t puddle & sit on the new cleaned up roots. So far so good. I’m so glad I found your channel because I wanted to do this right and keep my orchid growing beautifully & have learned a lot by your channel and wanted to thank you for making & sharing all these videos. ❤🌺❤🌸
I just started having orchids. Thank you so much for the incredibly clear and right to the point videos, they are extremely helpful. You’re a great teacher!
My boss likes to bring in various plants to sell, indoor plants year round and outdoor plants spring and fall. Not having a green thumb, I have had instruction on when to water by him, and have been doing research online. Finally took the plunge to start bringing live plants into my home about a year ago. Lost three or four in the beginning but doing much better and have collected a few over the past year. My boss brought in an orchid about a week ago. I have been admiring it but hesitant to make the leap to try to do right by it. Watched a few videos of yours. Finally decided that I am going to try it. Being off work today, I made the trip to get the orchid. After watching this video, the poor dear was in desperate need of water! I was amazed that the pale silvery roots instantly turned green once I started adding water to it, being careful not to get any on the leaves (gently moved them out of the way). Wow! It is in a bark medium but seems a little rootbound so now off to get proper medium and a proper orchid pot. Thank you so much for this!
Thank you so much for this. Somebody gave me a beautiful orchid as a present but they told me that to water it, all I had to do is put two ice cubes on top of the bark each week. I've noticed it struggling a bit, so thank goodness I'm doing research for myself now.
I'm watching this because I need to care for my mom's flower garden after her passing she lost her battle to cancer and I'm the only one who's responsible to take care of it.
What a beautiful way to remember your mother! Mine has been gone almost 18 years and I still miss her. ( it does get a bit easier over time tho ❤) It was my grandmother that had a knack for plants African violets and orchids.
Your video is great, and appreciate all the detail info you provide. FYI I have found that using a turkey baster to water my orchids helps reduces water getting on the leaves and collecting on the crown. Also it helps to regulate how much water I am applying which helps with my orchids potted in moss.
For the past 3 months I've been watering my orchids about once a week, mom used to do it a little more on a "it's been a while since I watered them" schedule. They live healthy lives on top of my dresser, getting light from both east and west during the day without being in direct sunlight. I think I will try to pay attention to not over-water them and double check that the weekly schedule is actually what they need. I have one that at one point was a little dehydrated because of a poor rootnet, it got leathery floppy leaves. It's recovering steadily and is growing new firm and healhty leaves and more new roots, so I am happy with the progress there. 😄
Thank you. I started watching your videos the last time I had an orchid too late. I just received another Orchid as a gift and I reviewed your videos and I'm hoping to keep this one healthy
I just got an orchid to bloom for the first time ever!! I was shocked. I was never as dedicated before.. back in June or July I started fertilizing it regularly and it just started blooming a few weeks ago in April 2022. I never even repotted it or cut off the old stems. So now I need to find your video for watering and fertilizing for a blooming orchid because I have no idea. It’s been outside in our patio area in Florida for well over a year. I’m just shocked. Anyway thanks for all of your videos and info.
Absolutely LOVE this video, Danny! So much useful information summarized in one. I was starting to wonder why I see those "brown" looking roots on the surface while I only recently repotted. I might have been overly enthusiastic on my fertilising.
You really inspired me to repot all my orchids! It took me 4 hours but I believe it will be beneficial. Some were more in need of it then others but I did them all to make a clean sweep. Thanks for all the great info!
My daughter gave me an orchid with beautiful white flowers. It lasted for months then stopped. I forgot about it as it was in a corner by the window. Suddenly one day, i found it and it had started to flower agan. Its now three years old and still flowering. I have never cut or fed it anything, just soaking occasionally in tepid tap water for twenty minutes and then completely drained it. I hope it keeps going as i love watching it reflowering and would be very sad if it doesn't. Your videos definitely inspire me to keep growing orchids. Thank you so much for your amazing advice.
i’ve got a few “just add ice” orchids from the grocery store and i’ve been loving learning more about caring for them properly! thanks for these videos 😊
@@quinelly6801 I think Jackie S is making fun of the instructions that came with her grocery store orchids. Now she's watching these videos and learning how to care for them properly. In the video, MissOrchidGirl says that watering with ice will eventually damage the roots. She says to use water that is room temperature or lukewarm. Orchids are tropical natives and never encounter cold water in their natural habitat.
@@olwill1 To add to that, there is an actual grocery store brand of orchids called "Just Add Ice," and their entire marketing strategy is based on how "easy" their orchids are to care for because "all" you need to do is add ice... Needless to say, I'm glad I decided to do my own research and not just follow the packaging instructions... 🙂🌺
Omg, I really thought the instructions were right. I have been putting ice cubes in mine.... It's only been a few weeks so I hope there isn't any damage. I'll deff be collecting some rain water for mine FRM now on.
Thank u so much for this video! I just bought my first orchid today and I'm so excited! I am trying to educate myself as much as possible so I can properly care for it.
Learning to grow orchids has been something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now. I had a purple one and it was doing so well and my mom drowned it 🥺💔& I was so hurt . Got another one this week I’m excited too grow again & im so happy I found your videos !’ There Soo amazingly helpful
Thank you for these videos. I love plants and flowers but having orchids was something I was scared of. I thought it was so difficult to care take for them. With the help of your videos makes it so easy.
This is one of the BEST RUclips videos I have ever seen on any subject! Thank you MissOrchidGirl-I have viewed many, many RUclips videos on orchids and your instruction is superior and invaluable to beginners as well as people who might think they are advanced in their "orchid career" (your voice is also very pleasant and calming). I have subscribed and look forward more. If I could I'd give you a raise:) You are the Maestra!
Thank you so much I have just started buying orchids mainly to save them. I had zero clue but have just repotted mine, I really appreciate your videos. :)
I love your videos!! You are so knowledgeable, and clear, and you cover all of the important details!! Thank you so much for helping me to rescue my orchid!
So glad I watched this. I definitely have been underwatering. Just replanted all of them in the clear pots and planting medium from rePotme after seeing your videos. My orchids are a bit sentimental to me having been given them by my son and grandson so I must keep them alive lol. Thank you for these very informative videos.
Thank you for sharing Danni!! I've learned to soak up any water from the crown with the paper towel, and I sprinkle alittle cinnamon to help dry up the crown which has truly helped with preventing crown rot!! Also, I have central heating so and use Orchid bark so I've learned that soaking the Orchids really work for them!! But I'm trying a Better Grow bark/moss mix for the first time so I'll try your tip of running water through the medium vs soaking!!🙏🏼🙏🏼
WOW I fell in love with your video. Very informant, walking us threw the step and answering questions that most would post. I've seen a lot of videos..... But by far yours is the best. I'm now a subscriber and that says a lot, cause I dont usually subscribe but just look up things. Thank you for you time and energy. Keep up the good work. God Bless
I just got 2 miniature orchids from my SO, and I knew they are a little complicated to take care of (not lik other house plants), but the more I know, the more I LOVE THEM!
Received my Orchid for my birthday in January. It just now lost its last bloom. Can’t wait to view all your videos and watch my orchid grow. Thank you so much! Need to repot first. I never knew you could get blooms again. Very excited to see how I do! Thank you for all the info!
I got an orchid as a gift. I just reported it today. I am learning a lot watching your videos. Thanks for the great videos. This is my first orchid and hopefully I get to keep it till the next blooming season and it blooms again.
Brilliant video you really answered every question I had with out me asking. You really know your stuff and I feel I have learnt alot about orchids from this. Thank you.
The only video which mentioned that watering depends...all of the videos I have watched dictates that there's a certain number of days before watering like after 5 days or after 7 days etc...first time to come across an advice such as this which I think is very insightful! 🌝
Yes help me lot. I over water my Orchid and start growing 🍄🍄🤢 it small so bad I removed all the 🍄🍄 cut the bad roots to on the top . This is my second time having a orchid. Wish me good luck 👍
I’ve been watching these videos and looking at my orchid! I’m so ashamed I’ve failed her. My orchid is getting the spa treatment today! Repotting, rejuvenating with hydrogen peroxide” and then follow up treatment with refreshment, nice lukewarm water!
Thank you so much for your clear and easy to follow care videos. I got my first orchid from my boyfriend a few months ago and I’ve been able to keep it healthy and happy with your help ☺️
Thank u for this video. I’m good with nepenthes and carnivorous plants but clueless with the orchid my grandmother gave me. I feel better about takin care of it now.
That's the same with me... Have I ever killed a nepenthes? No Have I ever killed an orchid? Yes only one that was 4 years ago I got a good 3 years out if it but than it just started dying on the 4th year...
I am thankful for this video. I had looked up on internet for taking care of the Orchid quite sometime back but was not able to get proper information so I gave up. I have somehow managed to keep them alive and have purchased quite a few as they are my most favourite. Going through your video I am hoping to take better care of my plants. Thanks a million.... from Canada
Dani, I just wanted to say thank you. I love your videos! They are so helpful. I love my orchid. My first one I didn't know any thing and killed it from over watering. I found a another orchid on clearance. Then educated myself with your videos. Its now about to bloom for the second time and I got me another orchid as well. I noticed the brown spots on my top roots. I was using tap water which is hard so I will switch to my osmosis system. But I also feterlize after each watering.
The orchid that I got as a gift was planted in moss and it told me to soak once a week according to its instructions. but thanks to your video I just replanted it and i noticed that it was super wet. Now it’s replanted wish me luck.
Love your videos and the way you teach. So easy to follow instructions. I just received a beautiful Phalaenopsis orchid from my daughter and I want to take care of it properly so that it will survive. However, it came in a pot that does not have drain holes and was also planted with another ivy type plant. First, will the ivy harm the Phalaenopsis? Second, how do I know how much water to give so that it's not too much, due to no drainage?
I literally put mine in cactus soil and a pot and water it once a week with spring water and it's bloomed again. Seems to be fine, but I appreciate the pro tips and learning more ^.^
Thank you for the useful information! I recently received a big beautiful Phalaenopsis cascade orchid for my birthday & I want to make sure it stays that way. I look forward to viewing your other videos to continue to care of the orchid!
I love orchids...with inflation, they have gone up in price. That didn't stop me. I'm very thrifty on a fixed income. I know it's mother's day and orchids will be everywhere. So I splurged and bought 2. This is an amazing vidio...thank you. 7:38
Great video, very detailed explanation. Your orchids are beautiful 🤩I'm buying my first orchid soon. I've always wanted one but I've always thought that they were difficult to maintain. Thank you for posting your great videos
i also ruined roots through overhydrating is distilled or Spring water suitable for orchids or should I just use water from the faucet? Thanks for all your helpI'm a new orchid grower,(still learning).

I am from Hong Kong and we live in small apartments which are perfect for small pots. I also had my first orchid and these videos are amazing and made my orchid a healthy one!
Dear Miss orchid girl,
Thank you so much for your amazing videos!
This was so helpful. Literally everything you said not to do I’ve been doing unawares. Time to start over, thanks so much.
I'm watching this because I need to care for my mom's flower garden after her passing she lost her battle to cancer and I'm the only one who's responsible to take care of it.
What a beautiful way to remember your mother! Mine has been gone almost 18 years and I still miss her.
( it does get a bit easier over time tho ❤)
It was my grandmother that had a knack for plants African violets and orchids.
Your video is great, and appreciate all the detail info you provide. FYI I have found that using a turkey baster to water my orchids helps reduces water getting on the leaves and collecting on the crown. Also it helps to regulate how much water I am applying which helps with my orchids potted in moss.
Great idea!
Good for you !! This is my first orchid and im so ecxited i hope my luck is the same .!!! 😀
@@josephellis5749 Good luck with it! 😄
Just got my first orchid from my husband,he knows I love flowers, and I’m here to learn how to take care of it ❤️
Thank you. I started watching your videos the last time I had an orchid too late. I just received another Orchid as a gift and I reviewed your videos and I'm hoping to keep this one healthy
Thank you so much for these clear, concise videos. I’ve been growing orchids for years without really knowing what I am doing. These are so helpful!
Just received an orchid from my older cousin and his gf as a gift for my 16th birthday. Thank you for the helpful tips :>
You really inspired me to repot all my orchids! It took me 4 hours but I believe it will be beneficial. Some were more in need of it then others but I did them all to make a clean sweep. Thanks for all the great info!
I dont even like to touch the orchids for fear they might explode.
Javier Fernandez orchids are surprisingly tough
They will not explode.
💣
mine exploded on me. 😢
@@rdavein yes they will it's happened to me before
My daughter gave me an orchid with beautiful white flowers.
Is it safe to add ice to orchids and for what?
@@quinelly6801 I think Jackie S is making fun of the instructions that came with her grocery store orchids. Now she's watching these videos and learning how to care for them properly.
In the video, MissOrchidGirl says that watering with ice will eventually damage the roots. She says to use water that is room temperature or lukewarm. Orchids are tropical natives and never encounter cold water in their natural habitat.
@@olwill1 thanks!
Thank you so much for this wonderful "beginner" helpful orchid grower!
Thank you for sharing all your wonderful knowledge on orchid growing i have learnt so much from your videos THANK YOU AND BLESS YOU
Thank you sooo much for you help. Just received Phalaenopsis as a gift. My very first Orchid.
Thanks for your valuable advice on how to keep the beautiful plants alive
My orchid, Ozzy, just bloomed! Thank you for the advice!
Thank you. I have been growing a phalenopsis or two for a couple of decades and I learned thing from this video.
Thanks!
I love Danny the orchid girl.... How many orchid lives could have been saved over the years had I only run across your videos sooner. ❤️😍😘😁
God Bless
I love your videos! Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us about proper Orchid care ♥️
Incredibly informative and your presentation is very straightforward and clear. Thank you so much!!
I just got 2 miniature orchids from my SO, and I knew they are a little complicated to take care of (not lik other house plants), but the more I know, the more I LOVE THEM!
Welcome to my channel! 😘
Received my Orchid for my birthday in January. It just now lost its last bloom. Can’t wait to view all your videos and watch my orchid grow. Thank you so much! Need to repot first. I never knew you could get blooms again. Very excited to see how I do! Thank you for all the info!
So how did it go? 😜
I was recently gifted an orchid and I had no clue how to take care of it so I was basically killing my orchid 😭😭😭 so glad I found your video
I love orchids. I always admire them inside the flower shops inside our grocery stores ❤️
I got an orchid as a gift. I just reported it today. I am learning a lot watching your videos. Thanks for the great videos. This is my first orchid and hopefully I get to keep it till the next blooming season and it blooms again.
Why did you report it was it doing something illegal?
Thanks for the video. My husband give me yesterday for Valentine’s Day and orchid. Abs I’m here learning about moss.
Brilliant video you really answered every question I had with out me asking.
You really know your stuff and I feel I have learnt alot about orchids from this.
Thank you.
Thank you! Love all your videos!
Im a beginner. I have an orchid-i named her Felicia. She is very happy you are teaching me how to care for her.
The only video which mentioned that watering depends...all of the videos I have watched dictates that there's a certain number of days before watering like after 5 days or after 7 days etc...first time to come across an advice such as this which I think is very insightful! 🌝
Thank you so much! I just received an orchid as a gift and this was very informative. I love your calming voice.
Thank you so much for this video! You always give excellent information! I'm getting so much joy from taking care of my orchids thanks your knowledge!
Excellent explanation of watering in different types of mediums. Thanks so much
Thank you so much for your clear and easy to follow care videos. I got my first orchid from my boyfriend a few months ago and I’ve been able to keep it healthy and happy with your help ☺️
Bought my first orchid today! Thanks for all the info 💚🌱🧚🏼♀️🌿
My grandma had to go back to LA and im going to take care of these for her
Thank u for this video. I’m good with nepenthes and carnivorous plants but clueless with the orchid my grandmother gave me. I feel better about takin care of it now.
That's the same with me...
Have I ever killed a nepenthes? No
Have I ever killed an orchid?
Hello. I bought my wife a small pot of Petite Phalaenopsis Orchids for Valentine's. Our 1st Orchids. Thanks for the tutorials.
Thank you for the series of videos. Can someone advice on how to deal with excessive air roots?
Thank you for the information! I just learned about distilled water 💧! Thanks !
Thanks so much. I really appreciate how clear and helpful your videos are.
So Happy I found your channel! Everything I need to know about orchids
I'm so glad! 🧡
Is it OK to have orchids in the dappled light created by sheer curtains in a west window?
It is my first time having an orchid 😊 thank you so much for your hard work 👏
I literally put mine in cactus soil and a pot and water it once a week with spring water and it's bloomed again. Seems to be fine, but I appreciate the pro tips and learning more ^.^
Such a beautiful voice and perfect, detailed explanation!
Thanks a lot🙏🏻
Your videos are the best on orchid care. I am just beginning to care for several orchids . You r my go 2 for all orchidinformation.

Hi. Our water contains alot of limescale. So i guess we have hard water. What can i do?? 💜 Thank you for the advice.
Ive had an orchid for about 5 years and I can tell you I am surprised it is not dead. I fertilized it here and there but I will be repotting it shortly.
I would like to know what you do when a lot of roots are above the pot do you do repotting so as to get it inside the bottom of the pot .

That potting mix looks awesome. I wish something like that was available locally (in Toronto, Canada)...if there is, I haven’t found it.
