I discovered Mesmer so late in my playthrough that I had already plenty of them. While I sucked at so many bosses, I was able to beat him in 2 tries.

Bro it's a skill issue here. Messmers grab attack ALWAYS one shot killed me. I was shocked to see that he could take his grab attack and not die. He's leveled just fine

This guy plays inept on purpose. He has no seal equipped, he's not sending any incantations for chip damage at range, I guess using incantations is "cheating" like using summons? Bullcrap. These things are built into the game, no reason not to use all available tools in the game that you can. Why isn't he using wonderous physik or a flamedrake talisman? Are those"cheating", too? I was able to beat Mesmer in three deaths, and I suck at video games worse than anyone else on planet earth.
