A HUGE thanks to everyone else that helped us with this project:
Derek, Don, and the rest of Matt's shopmates for tolerating us for way longer than they thought they'd have to
Nate and Public glass for helping us cut glass and receiving all our last minute amazon shipments
Beau and Circuit Launch for last minute PCB milling
Patrick for sound engineering, advice, bandwidth and invaluable support
Idan for taking apart an atm in a very sketchy convenience store and shipping me the parts
Ben for tons of logistics support and camera operation for hours at time
Kevin for doing the vast majority of the editing - / aurxm
Joe for camera work on the finale
Everyone in the ATM industry that's answered weird questions and tracked down very hard to find parts for us.

You need a shirt that says “Why can’t this be easier?”
I'd buy that
I'd also buy that!
and thus the merch was born.
Haha I was just going to quote this too. But I thought about it in the perspective that the man is trying to marry two completely foreign technologies that likely have never been thought of to combine together before and thinking “why can’t this be easier?” 🤣🤷♂️
I will made one and put it on amazon ! Guys who said they will buy it keep your word :)
Oh, f*ck... This really hurt to watch. I'm so sorry, Scotty. Really glad to see the project done though - it's totally awesome!
I totally get why you're not too interested in the iPhone 11 project at this point. If you can: do something easy (and cheap) for a few videos, man. You deserve a break!
Fantastic video, keep it up!
Thanks:) Yeah, it's been a rough couple of months. Not exactly excited to jump into a huge project again. Looking forward to some smaller, bite sized adventures for a bit.
@@StrangeParts Yeah, you should absolutely do some smaller projects for a while. I was like: "Damn. That would've been the straw for me" two or three ATMs before you got it working.
I'll be living in San Jose for a couple of months after new years for an internship, and I really hope I'll be able to check out this machine before you move back to China (or just stop showing it off to randoms. hehe)
@@AppliedProcrastination The "plan" is for it to live at Free Gold Watch permanently. I got a message from Matt that there's an error on it already though, so we'll see how long we manage to keep it running:)
@@StrangeParts That's part of the deal with big hacks like this one. As long as it works for the demo, everybody's happy 🙂 I'll absolutely check the arcade out though! Love that stuff, and not much of it here in Norway.
Strange Parts well done 👍🏻 TBF normal ATM throw a ton of errors, my local one is temperamental, so don’t beat yourself up 😉
Incredible work as always!!! I'm so happy to see this work out after all of this time!! 🎉🎉
Thanks for all of the love and perseverance that goes into every one of your videos. This made my day!!
Great video series again and again u never Fail to keep me glued ...keep up the great work
You are a true inspiration! You are the definition of if you fail, learn from it, and try again! And never give up! Thanks for the great contents! Can't wait to see more
Thanks for the part 2 Scotty, truly amazing. Your frustration and elation with the process is like a roller coaster of emotion and really comes across on screen. Im so happy about the end product, its just fantastic. Although im in the UK, I am coming to San Francisco in January, so I hope to track it down and have a go.
This is why you should never (or should always, which ever feels better for the outcome) work with others. The feeling of letting others down that makes one go the extra mile(s). When doing stuff alone one can walk away when they feel like they're done.
That said, I'm glad you went through with this. That is the best atm I've ever seen and makes me wish they'd all be like that. Thanks for the great videos!
Random thought: We need this dude be invited in Hot Ones.
Absolute MadLads, Scotty never fails to impress, I love how he came from drilling a hole in an iPhone to now driving Steppers and ATM mechanisms using Arudinos. Love this channel.
So sorry to you like this.....but you are a massive motivation and have inspired millions.....I myself has started to play around with electronics and it's all thanks to you.......
You have come along way with your channel. Your content is exceptional like no other here on RUclips.
You've shown off an incredible amount of patience with this project, I think I would've thrown the towel a lot lot earlier... Great work, looks really cool!
Just pure inspiration to not give up...
You should make a custom, working pear phone like from iCarly, Victorius, and Sam & Cat
Hit me right in the childhood, ya did
Love your work its so nice when projects work out in the end. Your a credit to this world, with the work you do, I have much respect and love of your channel and work from Ben from the uk.
This was crazy! i was gutted seeing you down like that in the first video. I could relate to the feeling. Great job! great videos!
Scotty, man, you could have just stopped this at so many points, walked away, did something else, not posted the videos, and you didn't. You made it work through sheer force of will and at great expense. My hat's off to you, it really is, well done man.
Totally inspiring work. Never surrender
I like how this video embraces the frustration of electronics projects
Fucking brilliant mate so glad after all that struggle you finished it and showed it off to us! What a pleasure on this strange parts journey.
your vids always remind me that nothing comes easy, they really make me see my problems more positively.
What great series of videos, truly 10/10
Am I the only one surprised that you can just buy an ATM on craigslist? Is that normal?
Been operating ATMs for 10 years, it's pretty damn simple to do it, and the hardware is dirt cheap (~$2000) for starter ATMs.
@@JustTechGuyThings you guys operate ur own atm? In my country atm are maintained and operated only by banks
@@soorajjp1847 our country is backwards in many ways .
@@soorajjp1847 that's totally wrong, many private players own & operate ATM's in our country. TATA is also on elf the players. you pay a processing fee & operating licence fee I guess.
@@hrushikeshsridhar I'm not speaking about private players. I'm speaking about individuals.
Really appreciate this tremendous effort.
Hard work pay off 👍 good luck my man. We are always with you ❤️
Dude, an amazing journey that's made an amazing video! Thank you so much for making this and sticking with it to the end. Really looking forward to your next video.
the idea to put it next to a laundrymat is actully genious ^^
im into electronics and computers, or so i think, but im in the beginners stage. and everytime i see scott done some weird projects like these and succeeds, i feel like its me who also succeed. and oh, i loved the clutter in the work station. i also liked scotts work behavior, even in failure.
"Dude, I think I broke the ATM" _ Scotty
Worked with ATMs here in Germany. Glad you didn't decide to replace the burned capacitors. You would have failed to do so. The pinpad encryption keys are normaly cleared if you remove the screws on the back of the pad.
Loving the little logo in the bottom right hand corner when watching in landscape. Great video too!
Awesome parts! It was strangely more interesting than i thought it would be.
So much effort. Glad there exist things like this.
Amazing build.
Congratuliations, that you finally did it.
24:25 "If you set the high score that's a legit high score, like, we put it in the books" while showing Donkey Kong made me laugh - I hope that's an intentional Billy Mitchell reference!
haha, it wasn't, but I've met Billy a few times, and he's played my mini DK. That's my DK Jr. in the video and if you look at 10:25 you can see a sticker on the side that says "NOT MAME" and it's signed by Billy Mitchell. I stay out of the whole record debacle, but people think my games are running MAME because of the size, so I put those decals on there which I think are doubly ironic :-)
Robbie Lakeman, one of the top players right now recently played my DK and got a kill screen and a million point game. It was pretty awesome to watch.
So much joy... So. Much joy
It’s finished, glad to see it all worked out. Great job.
You are the real inspiration for every1.
FUCK YEAH. I absolutely loved this turn around on the build. Good job Scott!
Literally a PAY TO WIN game... I would love to play it!
awesome project, that's some perseverance here, well done
Incredible finish, even after all those setbacks. Congrats everyone!
I know first hand how many months of effort can go out the window because electronics are unforgiving.
It's way too addicting of a hobby, though to ever give it up :)
Good persistence and amazing results. Really nice idea.
Best Tutorial for how to break an ATM machine 😂
this IS amazing ! what normally is a dull every day activity for some people, is now super cool ! Good job :D
Pretty insane this was actually possible for someone not in the bank business 🤯 great great job 👏👏👏
I would have patented that and sold it to a bunch of casinos/ slot machine companies
Well done Scotty. So much drama. I love how this turned out.
SUPER Guys this was a fun and amazing trip too watch!
Ok.. send that to me, I’ll pay you when it arrives.
Haha :)
What an adventure you've been through! I've been following you since you put back a headphone plug on an iPhone. KEEP UP!
I like watching you for your
perseverance
Epic effort; many kudos for pushing through. I understand first hand that it can be rough.
Sweeeet nice composure even when you fried that second ATM. Really cool build :)
So , ypu lost money from ATM. You put your own money in it, used ATM to dispense that money which got deducted from your account, Is there something i am missing?
The money withdrawn from your account gets deposited to my account by the processor.
It's called quantitative easing :P
@@StrangeParts That clears a lot of questions. thnx and Kudos for the built
@@insu_na Off to google now. quick search revealed it to be intresting , worth a deep dive. Thnx
I have followed you since the beginning, and i still dont get how you can be so calm when everything goes to shit!.
Greetings from Denmark. :)
Nice job guy's, fun to watch
Finally! Congratulations 🎉
Dude that transparent iPhone back glass!! want!!!
Wahoo! A great Tuesday surprise video. Thanks Scotty!
I'm happy for you man!
you are an amazing engineer
I was wondering how the heck you managed to patch into a live banking network, and there we go. Contracts and licenses, and parts with private key encryption and everything.
No wonder so many small shops and markets try to use alternatives, because that whole thing seems like such a nightmare to deal with.
Very cool project. :D
What an effort. Amazing job. But its so sad that this beauty was show cased at a random arcade place. Much repsects from Pakistan
pure madness, dude 👍 🙏
Congrats on persevering through the challenges to achieve such an awesome end result! Well done. :)
Scotty I think you legit found a niche market where this could be successful.
Might be worth contacting the ATM manufacturer for a small scale production.
amazing man lots of respect
I LOVE your videos, thank you sooo much for putting out amazing content!!
Awesome job, what u think of NEXT ???
At more than one point in this project I was sure it was going to end with a "Office Space" style montage of you beating the shit out of an ATM Slot Machine with a bat. Great job plugging away at it until completion.
this is freaking great. Would love to help you out next time
Strange parts and scrapyard wars on the same day!? WOOO!
Where can I watch the new scrapyard wars? It's not on ltt
I would have based it around one of those tablet linked card readers with an app where the user selects the amount, the card reader charges them, and the slot machine lets them play. Not a true ATM, but could be styled very similar.
This was awesome. I love the payoff of the whole project. Well done!!!!
Congrats!
This is an amazing project. But i wonder why you used a complete ATM instead of some other card payment system? Also not sure how you would even register a random ATM with the banking system to transfer withdrawn money to your account.
Anyways, thats pretty much the perfect ATM for an arcade place.
Im also very curious to know how he gets the money to his own account!
Linus Thorsén the ATM is registered with a processor (whom he had to sign a contract with, and enter the encryption keys from). The processor company’s servers know who the owner is and what account to transfer the money into when a withdrawal is made.
Loveed the work on the a.t.m slot machine awesome work love i live Sterling Heights Michigan may see it was awesome to watch the you tube video
Hey Scotty 👋, Once again I'm your biggest fan ! I mean look at my logo 😅 And enjoyed watching you work on this project as much as I did all the other awesome projects you do, I've been watching your channel from day one ! I love how you always push your way through a project and show the struggles you had ! I loved seeing you work on this crazy ATM machine with small change arcade ! Would love to see you guys do something else together ! Maybe like a penny pressing machine that makes penny pressed strange parts coins that come out of your ATM and can be used for a small change arcade machine ! In Free Gold Watch !
Perfection was the name of that timed game.
Now, this is how you end the series 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Super inspired by this dude 💯
3:14 I like how the cars are moving backwords
This is so satisfying! Amazing results, seriously, that was pretty cool!
Congratulations Scotty🎉🎉🎉
This channel is pure good quality! Like if you agree!
That atm is sweet
We all need a day off after just seeing the video... i cant even fathom how much scotty had to unload after finishing this one
Come to the UK please!
@Strange Parts pls make a Patreon ACC this content is worth money!
I take it the bill counter triggers the "Credits" being added? Is the "Credits" shown the amount chosen to withdraw? Also, what happens when the hopper is empty? Does it interact with the ATM side to prevent money leaving their account if there's not enough in it to pay out the jackpot? I presume you would've had to over-ride the empty trigger on the bill dispenser already so that the credit count etc would work?
I need one of these.
Which project was the most expensive so far? Great project by the way. Thanks for sharing the experience.
Personally I would of given up spending all the money and just bought a wireless chip and pin card reader and enabled cash back transactions with the bank, then just used that as the main controller for the bank stuff then just used normal arcade parts to make the rest lmao, props to you dude for pushing through.
How many casinos would buy this to dispense coins for there actual slots? I'd be really keen to find out. Great work guys!
Crazy project I love it. If you ever want to spend a week in the PNW and build something hit me up!
AWESOME
what if you used it as an entertaining card/cash to coin/token converter for an arcade?
So what exactly did you do to fry two boards? Sorry if it was in the video but I think I missed it.
Haha, @ those cars driving backwards at 3:13
Love your videos!
