I have a ST170 and am changing mine at the weekend. It may differ slightly but still a very clear and simple video. I especially liked the idea of cleaning the surfaces before the assembly. Great video 👍
Well done instructional, great camera work to see everything and your instructions were clear and concise. I think you were spot-on on the removal (factory bolts rarely come off in one piece). So, me and my little ZX3 thank you. One note folks should know, the part is different for the automatic and the standards transmissions. You got a subscribe from me, thanks.
On my FOrd Fousion...it seems that the gaskets rot away fairly quickly...not sure why, but I just replaced my flex pipe, but as I was doing it I realized I dont think it was the pipe itself, but just the gaskets...and now that I replaced them, its gotten louder once again, so I think it needs gaskets again. seems to be mostly the one on the manifold.
Great job! Mine has a bad leak I did some taping bad move going to go look underneath tomorrow instead of doing my way a Band-Aid I'm going to do your way which is the right way!
Hi! I just watched this video and I missed the information about what size bolts, washer and nuts replacements you got. Can you send me links to each one? I have a 2008 ford focus and it’s time for a flex pipe replacement. Wish me luck.
Great Job, thank you for taking the time to post this video. i need to do the same job on my 06 focus, soon. One question please, what type of gas did you use for the torch, to heat up the nuts, so they glow orange like this? thanks in advance.
I retied my oxy acetylene torch many years ago and replace it with just a small tank like on your barbecue and a plumbers touch have used a lot and works fine. I have an older one but this is close to what I am using. amzn.to/2VS8Nbl
I recommend a MAP torch (the yellow bottle) over propane especially in areas where cars get really bad rust. It burns hotter and will save time. Oxy acetylene is preferable but will cost more and unless you plan on doing exhaust often isn't worth investing in.
straddled a chunk of semi tire on my way to work a few weeks ago, it flipped up and cracked my flex pipe. I am not set up for auto repair, what is the average to have an exhaust shop replace it?
Thanks for the video. I just have 1 question. Does your focus have the automatic or manual transmission? My 2007 has the manual transmission. Amazon says the part number (52488) of your part doesn't fit my car. Also part number (52489) doesn't fit my car either via Amazon. I checked amazon for a 2006 ford focus too so either you were lucky it fit or Amazon is wrong. I think the latter.
@@channelron3593 I tried the walker flex pipe from Amazon for my 07 focus for the manual transmission. I got both kinds of gaskets you recommended too. It fit perfectly! I used a mapp gas and O2 torch to heat up the nuts. Thanks for your help.
This was a year ago and you probably have it figured out by now but since neither 52488 or 52489 fit - you probably have either a Federal emission car or a 2.3L engine. Those take a different part. Walker doesnt have a part listed for those. 52489 fit my 2005 manual trans car perfectly.
I have a 2009 Ford Focus and have been told I need to replace the flex pipe because it's leaking, but there see no other issues with the exhaust system and didn't mention any other system issues...Don't know if the year makes a huge difference, but I was just told that unless they can use a universal flex pipe, they'll have to disassemble the car because they can't get to the flex pipe easily because it's part of the manifold/catalytic assembly, so the repair may cost me $1500. Does that sound scammy to you? Also, I'm a woman, so right there, that's a liability for mechanics trying to scam you.
I have a 2009 as well, the flex pipe on mine is also connected to the exhaust manifold. The entire pipe is very expensive, I don't think it's a scammy price. For this video he has a flange on both sides of his flex pipe, which makes the job much easier. To fix mine i will need to cut my flex pipe off and weld a new flex pipe to it, or i might try to use a slip on flex pipe. Either way it seems the 2009 Focus wasn't designed for easy changes.
All good IF your original bolt breaks off. Of course, the geniuses at Ford put the nuts on the front where they are almost impossible to access. All automotive engineers will have to work on their designs when they get to Hell.

Glad it helped
I have to do that to mine thanks excellent camerawork & instructions.
Thanks I knew how to do it. Just wanted to see if u had to melt the bolts off and if there was an inner gasket
Glad it helped

Would like to know what was the boats that you got and washer size precisely
Fantastic, now I need a ramp. I can do everything else. 😮

Yeah, it sounds like you are right. Did you clean out the old one? I made that mistake once before.
@@channelron3593 Yeah, it was all cleaned off

good job,my side guy who works at his home having trouble with the inner bolt near the manifold pain in the ass!

Nice video well filmed great work
Thank you very much! And thanks for supporting my channel.
On the end did you get an inspection sticker after replacing this flex pipe?
absolutely.
What size flex pipe. Is it 2 inch pipe inside diameter
I got it from amazon you may find more in for hear, amzn.to/2JAStVt
One thing I have found is, here in the uk I cannot get any of the round gaskets.
Hmm not sure? even on amazon?
@@channelron3593 Hello. Found some but really dear from ford. So got some cheap 55mm copper washers from Ebay, job done.
Thanks buddy
The fact Ford put the bolts facing the engine is absolutely ridiculous
I have to do this again on same car 3 years later. the salt here in the north east destroys everything.
@@channelron3593 your engine/trans mount might be worn out. this happened to my car.

I would think 4 to 5 hundred?

help: i can’t get those bolts off that you heated up, and i don’t have a torch. i’m just trying to remove the exhaust manifold
@Dawson Juan what’re you talking about bruh
Wow ya you need a little heat.
Go for a drive💁
Dont start a job you dont have the tools for. Just cut them and replace the nuts bolts.
Well done, saved yourself a bundle of $$$.
Thanks, yes its all about saving the big bucks (:
