Regarding 2:42, the Spanish Conquistadors encountered platinum in Mesoamerica & South America during the 1500s. They named it platino, meaning "little silver". At the time platinum was considered to be a nuisance impurity to gold. This was because platinum had such a high melting temperature of 3,215°F (1,768°C) that it could not be melted until the invention of the oxyhydrogen torch. Then platinum started to be used for items of jewelry during the late 1700s by Marc-Etienne Janety who was the Royal Goldsmith to King Louis XVI of France.

I have both, not as a wedding band, just like platinum group metals and chemistry. Even with a high polish I can see the difference- the platinum is lighter reminiscient of polshed silver where the palladium has a blueish tinge, similar but distinct from my tungsten thumb ring. The palladium cost less than the platinum, even though my right ring finger is larger than my pinky- palladium is the more expensive metal, but the platinum ring ways quite a bit more than the palladium- costs were similar with the platinum ring costing £20 more.

I've been trying to decide between a platinum or a palladium ring for a few weeks now but I think I'm going to go with platinum because of the weight. Call me old fashioned but I like my luxury items to have a certain heft. I'm a bit worried about the scratches but I think I'm just going to have to deal with it as a part of the experience and hope it builds character, not takes it away.

I bought my palladium wedding when it was a lot less expensive than platinum. I bought my palladium ring for $500 and now that same ring would cost me over $2000. I never thought palladium would one day cost most more than platinum.
Platinum and palladium look alike, but platinum is denser. Therefore, it weights more but it’s impossible to distinguish the two just with your eyes. I have owned platinum as well, so I’m speaking from personal experience.

Hi Arts and Crafts! I've spoken to Sarel and the design team, and they say that the choice would be personal preference as both Palladium and Platinum are suitable metals for skin allergies, especially if the allergy is to nickel. The content of nickel in precious metals is negligible. Based on current prices, however, Platinum would be the cheaper option. Would you like to know more? What kind of jewellery are you shopping for?

Technically they could be alloyed- the alloys would have different properties to the base metals depending on the proportions, but I see no reason it wouldn't work, but you'd need to get it made special as such alloys aren't available as standard.

One strangely looks a lot like platinum and diamonds. Either way, it's very beautiful whether it's real or not, but it's very sturdy and durable. Palladium is harder than platinum but platinum is much denser which means it apparently can withstand more impact.
Palladium is both harder and denser than silver though.
I’m not sure about dullness; I’ve read silver will dull faster over time but I believe the difference youre referring to is colour between them possibly? But the jeweller just pointed out he himself can’t tell the difference by eye.
