From 41st onwards workout in gym, watch movies, go jogging etc etc. If at all you need to work for your employer beyond that 40 hours threshold, then let company compensate with 1.5x wage loading for every extra hour which is very common in west.

Not just Infosys, all India companies are doing that. They are charging huge to their clients (while that huge amount is very less for those clients) and they are paying very less to their employees with that the employers are already indirectly forcing their employees to work beyond 10hrs a day. It's time that Indian employees should demand a strong labor law, companies have already exploited enough, even that 40hrs a week is not followed by anyone. This how companies keep earning billions and employees earn lakhs and go to hospitals. BTW why don't they employ more people instead of doubling their working hours? Doesn't it boost the economy in the same way or doesn't it create more employment or does not India have so much unemployed graduates? Work productivity is low because you are already paying them less and making them work for longer hours already which is already an imbalance of work-life balance, will lead to demotivation. All they want to see is their resources putting in more hours so they can charge their overseas clients. This serves the IT business owners in boosting their profits. Then his personal needs such as rest, relaxation, food and sleep. The advice given by these business stalwarts to devote 42% of the week to work is totally out of tune with reality. Their hidden purpose behind this advice is to create a gang of slaves who will toil for these magnates so that the magnates can add to their already swollen bank balances. Narayana Murthy has admitted that he could devote hardly any time to the upbringing of his daughter because he was so busy with work, As a result his daughter Akshata was brought up virtually by her mother and never received the care due from a father to his child. They must work on improving themselves, do their best, enhance their creativity, upgrade their skills, passionately follow their dreams. and lead a quality life with family and friends. This is that will improve productivity but not slog for a few ppl'sl profits. Balance is very important otherwise the country will deal with health issues. But at the same time youth must not waste their time on unnecessary things , self gratification, and become lazy.. Narayan Murthy should have said that today's youth must find a purpose for themselves and devote to it and think big. Whether employed or entrepreneur. That would be more inspiring to the youth. Being from IT consulting industry implemented over 35+ projects, I can say hours is way over rated. Projects are carelessly executed, especially at requirement stage in the USA, so most work is just corrections and design changes though they could have been fixed earlier at design stage. Also, poor source control, overwrites and deployment issues leading to long hours. Only small amount productive. Very poor advise. Instead stronger physically and active individuals turn out more work in shorter time. A disciplined persona ne society healthy in all aspects is what's needed, not long hours. Also, most project have very little work 70% of the time. And huge load at the end of the project. This will punish efficiency and promote poor performance.

What's lacking is the direction from the senior workforce and management to properly channel the youth's enthusiasm such that it produces the right results. You can't expect a fresher to know the right things to do to achieve this, it has to come from senior management and administration. Murthy and others of his kind should focus on this aspect, rather that dumping all the blame and responsibility on the shoulders of the youth. Organisations have incentivise productivity instead of asking someone to put in 70 hours of effort to which they wont reap any benefit. People whose rewards are proportional to work put in will automatically agree with this. Like cab drivers, gig workers, small business men. But people who are being exploited for low wages will disagree with this. I think the reward mechanism in places like Infosys for hardwork is very low.
