Good Stories- Shows guilty crown Epic monents- Shows a scene from the terrible part of Naruto that no one gives a shit about. Epic Fights- Shows Goddamn dragon ball Epic Quotes and characters- there was nothing about characters. And they showed LITTERALLY the most shitty quotes ever!!! Except the Kakashi one was KINDA okay. But even then, it's still not nearly the best! What anime teaches us- ●Justice- Fine, Death note was a good pick. ●Kings- wtf is the point of this category? ●Value of Life- Shows AOT, Like seriously, they couldn't find a SINGLE better thing for taht category? Seriously? Aot doesn't teach any shit like that. ●War- Wtf, they showed the NARUTO WAR! That was literally one of the worst wars ever! It doesn't scratch the SURFACE of war. It doesn't show the brutal loss of life, it doesn't show the intense series of events that lead to war, it hardly shows how war can be a conflict of ideals, it doesn't show the harsh life of a soldier, it doesn't EVEN show the effects or repercussions of war! Violet Evergarden does a million times better at showing war, and IT'S A GODDAMN DRAUMA. Sorry I'm passionate about this subject. ●Friendship- Yeah it showed One piece, and one piece does do good on friendship. But that's not the main point of the series by far. There are HUNDREDS of better picks, I could probably find at least 20 better examples in a quick Google search! At MOST picking One piece was MEDIOCRE. ●Sacrifice- Another goddamn Naruto moment. Once again, this shows sacrifice, BUT IT'S BELOW STANDARDS. Just because they are both animated does not mean its the same culturally Cartoons to almost everybody is not of being something animated but something mostly for kids while anime(animation) can be taken to a larger theory for being for all ages teens and adults. Ik it’s been a year since this comment but this is such an underrated one. You’re speaking straight facts, what most anime fans don’t realize that anime is just a term for animation and not its own category. When they think of anime, they think of shonen animes which were made for teens and adults but enough to get kids attention same as for some cartoons but backwards, made for kids but enough to get teens and adults attention.

Cartoons are "a film using animation techniques to photograph a sequence of drawings rather than real people or objects." Which again, means anime are cartoons. This doesn't mean anime is only for kids, cartoons can be for adults AND kids, but it isn't wrong to call anime cartoons, at the end of the day they are Japanese cartoons.
I'm kind of surprised no one used "Parasyte" as one of the examples. I have to say that Madara, when he first actually appears as a reanimation is one of the most masterful fights I've ever seen.

I'm not much into anime like I was back in the late 80's and 90's. I'm more old school if anything. The cartoons these days are different than it was than the 80's and 90's. There is no company now that make great cartoons like the 80's and 90's. Thunder Cats, Silver Hawks, Mask, GI JOE, inhumanoods, Heavy Metal, Fire and ice,Visionaries, Bionic Six and so forth. Great cartoons in its day. Art was also great back in its day and puts to shame many cartoons out now. My question is, these are known as cartoons. What would be the difference between that and anime of that era and also now? Sure the art style maybe different but, still both are animated by cells. Sure many will say that anime is better but the cartoons and mentioned is also 20 to 30 yrs old so of course anime now will look better. But, the anime of that era and the cartoons I mentioned are pretty much to par. I do notice that anime does have more genre than the American counterpart.

If there were more cartoons that were story driven then there wouldn't be much of a difference. Gravity Falls & Star vs the Forces of Evil are the best examples I can think of right now. Still, this video is really biased.
Not Really cartoons excluding gravity falls and young justice are pretty stupid but anime just has better stories most of the time compared to cartoons that rarely have stories that move in chronological order anime has more structured stories and character development
Yeah, but still it all depends on what you're looking for. Right now I'm really focused on the art style of anime. Like yes it's beautiful & that was one of the many reasons I liked it as a kid. But then there's the problem where the characters aren't very animated or they don't have personality due to always having to be aesthetically pleasing. There's always that angry but cool character, which seems edgy but if you think about it, why are they always so mad. And how does that effect the viewer. One Piece happens to be my most favorite anime because of the emotion it envelopes upon the viewer. Mob Psycho 100 is another one that happens to feel refreshing because it doesn't strictly follow the straight lines & does a lot with it's movements. Don't get me wrong, I love anime(enough to have studied it for many years), but they're lacking personality (it's like a lot of anime is trying to be the popular kid by trying to be cool like the rest instead of being itself which would make it much more likable.) Which I think was Miyazaki's argument in the first place, not so much anime being a mistake but that others aren't putting enough passion into it & are just doing it to be cool like the rest.

Animes *are* Cartoons, that's not wrong. However, not all Cartoons are Animes. However, while we intuitively believe to know what is what, finding actual rules by which to distinquish between them is hard. In fact, most people who claim to have a proper definition for distinqtion forgot about one thing or another and thus are wrong. The same goes for this video, and .. well .. in fact all others that claim that it can be defined in a way that makes Animes special. Animes have a good story line / fights / epic moments / ... ? Take a look at Avatar. That's a Cartoon and has all of those as well. For any and all of those rules, you can find exceptions. Animes have a special style? Tell that Panty and Stocking. No.. sadly fact is that the only difference is that Animes are those Cartoons that come from Japan. That's it. I know they *mostly* feel different, but that's exactly it: mostly, feel. You just cannot define proper rules by which to differ them, making the entire topic subjective, thus pointless. And the only objective thing people agree on is that Animes come from Japan. Because that's how the japanese call their Cartoons. Anything else can be found on both sides.

Ik it’s been a year since this comment but this is such an underrated one. You’re speaking straight facts, what most anime fans don’t realize that anime is just a term for animation and not its own category. When they think of anime, they think of shonen animes which were made for teens and adults but enough to get kids attention same as for some cartoons but backwards, made for kids but enough to get teens and adults attention.

I'm an anime watcher, some of my favorites include HxH, AoT and FMA but anime are cartoons, by definition.
Cartoons are "a film using animation techniques to photograph a sequence of drawings rather than real people or objects." Which again, means anime are cartoons.
This doesn't mean anime is only for kids, cartoons can be for adults AND kids, but it isn't wrong to call anime cartoons, at the end of the day they are Japanese cartoons.

I'm not much into anime like I was back in the late 80's and 90's. I'm more old school if anything. The cartoons these days are different than it was than the 80's and 90's. There is no company now that make great cartoons like the 80's and 90's. Thunder Cats, Silver Hawks, Mask, GI JOE, inhumanoods, Heavy Metal, Fire and ice,Visionaries, Bionic Six and so forth. Great cartoons in its day. Art was also great back in its day and puts to shame many cartoons out now. My question is, these are known as cartoons. What would be the difference between that and anime of that era and also now? Sure the art style maybe different but, still both are animated by cells. Sure many will say that anime is better but the cartoons and mentioned is also 20 to 30 yrs old so of course anime now will look better. But, the anime of that era and the cartoons I mentioned are pretty much to par. I do notice that anime does have more genre than the American counterpart.

Anime is Japanese based animation. Cartoon is western based animation. Both are forms of animation that requires skill to produce. If you can't appreciate cartoons and have that typical ' cartoon are for kids and anime is better ' attitude , obviously you are being biased. Likewise to the people who claim that anime is cartoon, they are not. Both are animation, but they are based on different cultures. Nevertheless, learn to respect all forms of animation and stop comparing both of them. If there were more cartoons that were story driven then there wouldn't be much of a difference. Gravity Falls & Star vs the Forces of Evil are the best examples I can think of right now.

Yeah, but still it all depends on what you're looking for. Right now I'm really focused on the art style of anime.
Like yes it's beautiful & that was one of the many reasons I liked it as a kid. But then there's the problem where the characters aren't very animated or they don't have personality due to always having to be aesthetically pleasing.
There's always that angry but cool character, which seems edgy but if you think about it, why are they always so mad. And how does that effect the viewer.
One Piece happens to be my most favorite anime because of the emotion it envelopes upon the viewer. Mob Psycho 100 is another one that happens to feel refreshing because it doesn't strictly follow the straight lines & does a lot with it's movements.
Don't get me wrong, I love anime(enough to have studied it for many years), but they're lacking personality (it's like a lot of anime is trying to be the popular kid by trying to be cool like the rest instead of being itself which would make it much more likable.) Which I think was Miyazaki's argument in the first place, not so much anime being a mistake but that others aren't putting enough passion into it & are just doing it to be cool like the rest.

Animes *are* Cartoons, that's not wrong. However, not all Cartoons are Animes. However, while we intuitively believe to know what is what, finding actual rules by which to distinquish between them is hard. In fact, most people who claim to have a proper definition for distinqtion forgot about one thing or another and thus are wrong. The same goes for this video, and .. well .. in fact all others that claim that it can be defined in a way that makes Animes special. Animes have a good story line / fights / epic moments / ... ? Take a look at Avatar. That's a Cartoon and has all of those as well. For any and all of those rules, you can find exceptions. Animes have a special style? Tell that Panty and Stocking.
No.. sadly fact is that the only difference is that Animes are those Cartoons that come from Japan. That's it. I know they *mostly* feel different, but that's exactly it: mostly, feel. You just cannot define proper rules by which to differ them, making the entire topic subjective, thus pointless. And the only objective thing people agree on is that Animes come from Japan.
