    Excellent break down of the Phantom Thieves' plans to fool Akechi.
    The only thing that was off is how Futaba knew when to activate the Meta-Nav. She uses the GPS coordinates of both phones (Akechi's and Joker's) to detect the exact moment Sae and Akechi crossed paths, rather than the camera.
    Futaba explains this in an optional conversation in Joker's room after he returns to Leblanc. She also mentions an interesting bit about the gang suddenly realizing there was a crucial flaw in their plan that they had to run to fix while everything was already in motion.
    The problem was that Akechi had a very good chance of running into his own Cognitive copy in Sae's Palace after crossing paths with her due to her subconscious mind putting the Cognition in the same hallway where she knew he was located (same rationale that put Cognitive Joker in the same cell Sae last saw him in) and thus instantly revealing to Akechi that he was in the Metaverse.
    To avoid ruining the plan like this, the team had to enter her Palace again and find Cognitive Akechi before the real one entered the Palace. The funny part is that, given that Sae didn't know his real nature, Cognitive Akechi was just like she thought he was in the real world and Makoto didn't have any trouble knocking him out, tying him up, and tossing him on another floor so the real Akechi wouldn't ever see him.

  • @mahpell7173
    @mahpell7173 Год назад +18

    Even though it's interesting and elaborate plan, there are many, many flaws to it from both sides.
    Why Akechi missed the part that Palace didn't start to crumble after capturing the Treasure?
    Why Akechi, who clearly knows how this works, approved to bring the police into the Palace, even though it would not be help at all when Palace will fall?
    What was even the purpose, if in Metaverse Persona users are obviously very strong? If Joker wouldn't know about the plan, he could've take police crowd for cognitive beings and Megido'ed the crap out of them.
    Why wasn't Akechi alerted by how easily Joker was taken down?
    Why even risk such a security breach and show the Metaverse to a police crowd who're clearly not even the part of Shido's ship?
    How, in the name of Joker's swagger, the team was able to continuously fool Akechi with their comrade act towards him, especially Ann, whos act was usually so bad that even moron like Riuji doesn't buy it?
    Why didn't cognitive guard and Joker perished instantly, like they always do? It took minutes, without showing any signs, while Akechi was savouring the moment and arranging the scene to look like suicide.
    The "pancake" slip-up was a honest mistake on Akechi's behalf, for noone could predict such a random blunder, but after this his IQ was downgraded to the number of his age. This wasn't even funny how disappointed I was when I listened to the crew (and to Futaba afterwards to hear more deets) how this plan was executed. They took into account almost every thing except their biggest threat - Akechi himself - and it baffles me that he didn't actually percieve any of this, or at least suspected something.

    • @phantomslay5612
      @phantomslay5612 Год назад +7

      I’ll explain.
      1. Akechi didn’t know the rule about palaces collapsing immediately once you steal treasure because he had never stolen hearts before. He had only ever used the Metaverse to kill the victims’ shadows so he likely just assumed a palace only collapses once the target is killed. The team intentionally didn’t explain that specific part to him to avoid rousing suspicion from him.
      2. Again, same answer as before. He didn’t know all the specifics. Also, that’s why he had the police force wait outside the palace. Only a few officers went in to catch him. He wouldn’t risk telling everyone exactly how the Metaverse worked.
      3. Because Akechi knew that the phantom thieves couldn’t risk exposing their true powers in the Metaverse to police officers from the real world. Joker didn’t fight back because the plan involved him being arrested to fake his death. And even if Joker could fight back that would basically be him attacking real officers and he’d actually be committing crimes. Isn’t the point to prove he’s innocent? And what exactly would happen once he exits the Metaverse? He’d be captured immediately in the real world and likely sentenced to worse punishments for assaulting officers.
      4. Akechi knew Joker wouldn’t dare to fight back against real people. And again, calling back to the logic from earlier.
      5. Akechi could’ve easily lied to the police about what the nav could really do and how the other world worked. And remember, most of the police were waiting outside the palace so none of them really got to see how things worked from there. And given Akechi’s methods he likely planned to kill anyone who got too curious about the nav afterwards and pin the blame on the phantom thieves.
      6. Ann is bad at acting when it’s only her speaking to someone to get information. She just sucks at coming up with direct lies. Withholding information is a different matter in this case. Plus, she isn’t trying to get him to do anything for her specifically. Being secretive and directly trying to extract information are not the exact same thing. The joke is that Ann, despite the type of thief she appears to be, is a laughably bad femme fatale.
      7. Shadows disappearing instantly are an aspect of gameplay scenes used for quick effect. In story cutscenes the pacing is a bit different. And why do you assume it took several minutes? They could’ve just disappeared a few seconds after Akechi had left.

    • @mahpell7173
      @mahpell7173 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@phantomslay5612 1. Right. It's not like he was in the know about details of Wakaba's research, nor stalked the group while they were infiltrating Okumura's Palace and didn't listen to their conversations. Nor he's able to put 1+1 since he knows that Palaces of previous targets have disappeared, while the real life people are neither dead nor went insane.
      2. Again, same answer as before.
      Also, why risk it anyways? What was exact reason to make police catch them inside the Metaverse, where Phantoms have huge advantage? Cordon off the area in real life and cuff them all when they come out.
      3. and 4. Here comes the loop in logic. Akechi definitely knew that Phantoms won't go as far as hurting real people. But here's a problem. He presumes they are blissfully unaware of his plan, right? Then why would he assume that Phantoms think of police officers as real people? The casino is full of cognitive beings who look like real people. Moreover, they know that Cognitive beings can also be as aggressive as Shadows - they recently had to fight lots of Corporobos from Okumura's Palace. Your explanation makes it look like Akechi knows that Phantoms know and prepared for his plan, but still rolls with it.
      5. He could've lied, but he would have a problem explaining a damn Casino instead of a Courthouse. And as mentioned at 2 - why go through all these difficulties, risking a security breach and/or mission's objective, going as far assuming that Phantoms wouldn't fight back police who look as real as cognitive beings?
      6. This I can actually agree on, but even if Ann is not a liability, there is Ryuji. I can't believe this guy, who constantly speaks his mind and declares their secrets in every public place they visit was able to hold his mouth shut through this whole ordeal.
      7. Okay then, let's have a look at Shadow Okumura's assassination cutscene. Okumura is on his knees, Phantoms are running away as Palace starts crumbling.
      Suddenly, a bullet pierces Shadow's chest. He falls down, shaking. Akechi comes in and puts second bullet point-blank. How long does it take to Okumura's body disappear? The same moment he gets the second bullet.
      Now
      And what about Joker and the guard?
      It is at very least 30 seconds between Joker's double getting shot and Akechi leaving the crime scene, and at least A MINUTE AND HALF since the guard's double getting shot. Maybe you remember something I don't, but in my books this is BAR NONE the longest time body of a usual Metaverse being not disappearing.
      See, the point is that it's the most crucial part of their plan. Akechi should be convinced that Joker is dead, or all they did up to this point is in vain, and their plan is... to bet that Akechi leaves earlier than bodies start disappearing or even showing signs of their fake nature.

    I have really big issues with the plot twist mostly with how it doesn’t work unless the game intentionally hides information from the player which makes zero sense. From the very start we are Joker and know his movements and thoughts. Now all of a sudden Joker and the rest of the cast have information that the player has zero idea of. Yes, Jokers memories were “hazy because of the drug injections” and I would have accepted this more if more of his memories were hazy and not just the incredibly crucial plot twisting ones.

    just 1 serious question, why do the police seem indifferent to the body of the joker who is said to have committed suicide? Why isn't anyone checking back? didn't one policeman die too? Yes, even though the person who died was fake, but according to them it was real, for Akechi and Shido, there were 2 people who died, Joker and 1 policeman, even if the (real) policeman had been told to go with Sae, wouldn't it be very suspicious for Akechi and Shido after do they know that only the joker died?

    • @phantomslay5612

      The police were ordered to be silent and not check the body by higher ups from Shido’s side who were in on it the whole time. That’s the level of corruption we’re talking about here. A coroner just passed along a fake death certificate but he didn’t check the room at all. They were so confident in the plan succeeding that they didn’t bother to look.

      That wasn't Joker's Shadow or him in the Metaverse. That was a cognitive version of Joker, a fake that looked like him created by Sae's cognition within her palace. Think of it as Haru's "boyfriend" that the Phantom Thieves fought in Okumura's Palace: that too was a cognitive being created by the Palace owner's cognition, meaning killing him would have no effect on the real person. Or even during Ann's awakening, where she killed a cognitive version of herself that later reappeared for Kamoshida's boss fight; if killing cognitive beings had real consequences, she would've essentially ended her own life then and there.
      Morgana explained this all the way back in Kamoshida's Palace, where we saw the students as slaves being tortured, but they were not real, only what Kamoshida saw them as.

    The problem with the scene is that it kills the immersion and could have been executed better. Like say that the phantom thieves should have went without Akechi to the Metaverse and if Akechi gets suspicious then he will kill us. The Phantom Thieves knowing it the whole time kinda kills it. Akechi could have also been more discreet like how he was able to hear Morgana, he should have been more honest and said he was in the metaverse before Okumuras palace so then he could have covered it up easily. He also should have came to them for help and take Shido down. With Joker remembering Shido by face or voice he would have been like “that’s the man who accused me” and then everyone would have helped Joker. With Akechi being like “I see you have a grudge against this man, I do as well. Let’s work together and take him down.” With both Akechi and the Phantom Thieves working together they could take down Shido. Akechi could choose to tell Joker about him being the Black Mask. Joker would come to understand Akechi from where he was coming from and realize that they are not so different and Akechi would be more honest and caring as he finally made a friend. He realized that Joker is his friend as well as the Phantom Thieves. He would finally achieve what he wanted which was to be needed. Overall, this is how I think it should have went.

      I respect your opinion but when I saw this scene I would have never even guessed in the slightest that this would happen. To the point where I questioned how a human being could even come up with something so mind-blowing. Having things from the very beginning that seemed to have no correlation with the main story all come together in such a way is what makes it so brilliant. The way you wanted it to be would be way too simplistic and predictable which would make it lose its surprise factor and in short, make it boring for a lot of people. I don't really see how it could have been executed any better as they took about a full hour and a half explaining literally everything leaving almost no plot holes. I still respect your opinion nonetheless as everyone has their own tastes.

    • @setheustoma
      @setheustoma  2 года назад +2

      1st, the palace was closed remotely by futaba using jokers phone while akechi was leaving which means he reported it to the real world police.
      2nd, the police never checked and since Akechi and Sae was the only one who was permitted to enter the room. It can be implied that with the amount of power and wealth Shido has, a cover up would be a simple task. The guard was killed to seal his lips so that nobody knows Akechi killed joker and it looks like Joker took the guards gun and killed the guard along with himself. So a report about the guard dying was never made.
      Hope this clears some things up for you!

    • @KevXYZ
      @KevXYZ 2 года назад +2

      I can hardly understand what you're saying but I'll try to answer anyway.
      1st, the news of Joker's death was reported of his presumed death in the real world, not the one that happened in th Metaverse. Hardly anyone know it exists or has the means to access it and even then, thanks to Shido's power and influence, Joker was declared death without further investigations, nobody even bothered to look for a dead body.
      2nd, Joker and the guard did not magically come back to life. Akechi killed two cognitive versions of those people in the Metaverse, thinking they were the real ones. Killing a cognitive being does not affect the real person it represents. Think of them as someone's photo; you can punch, stab or shoot the picture, but that doesn't affect the person you took the photo of. Also, only Akechi entered the cognitive interrogation room as he unknowingly entered and exited the Metaverse. No police member entered the Metaverse, so they couldn't have seen the cognitive room.
      3rd, whatever happened would not be reported because no investigation happened, the guard probably went into hiding to protect himself and nobody even knew he was killed as he was eliminated to destroy evidence.

    • @gagejohnathan9641

      1. Akechi killed a cognition of Joker in the Metaverse, and since he wasn't aware he was in the Metaverse, since it was closed remotely by Futaba after Akechi left the room, he then reported the event in the real world.
      2. The Guard was not a Cognition, as the real Guard was brought in with Akechi as they (unknowingly) entered the cognitive room and shot dead there. Since the Guard's body DID NOT leave the room, there would've been no evidence of their disappearance, and Akechi could easily, with Shido's help, pull strings to keep anyone else out to cover up what he thought was the death.

      My guess is that Akechi himself told the police that they will commence the operation inside a certain casino, without even telling that the said casino is inside the metaverse. That would make him come to the metaverse way before the Phantom Thieves proceed to steal Sae's heart, and push the button without being noticed by the forces. If any of the police member felt suddent lighthead, Akechi would simply brushed it off. No one's clothes are changed because they were frequently met Sae before, so she never thought of them being hostile at that point.

    So they've captured leader of one of the most wanted group in Japan. They don't know his methods and many other things. They are allowed to go as far as to break his limbs and force drugs in him to get any informations they can AND THEY LET HIM KEEP HIS PHONE?
    The real police would take his phone, crack it and keep checking every single bit of information on it for weeks. There's no way this plan would ever work.

      Given how corrupt the police are, that's just a few bribes away. After all, how much info that could implicate Shido and Akechi is there on that phone? Every man has his price after all, and there might be a price that could convince police officers who have already agreed to stand by and let a hit happen in front of a security camera **no less** , without anyone finding out. Did we have another criminal ringleader awaiting trial who also totally killed himself in jail in the real world, and the security camera conveniently was out of order and the guards supposed to watch the inmate were away at the time, or is it just me?

      Hmm, the way I saw it, I thought Sae was the one who had his phone at that time, not Joker, as it was considered evidence. She did mention how they were working to unlock it, after all - "the security on it is pretty tight, but make no mistake, our people will unlock it" or something like that

      @@daisy3525 as funny as reading OP’s “AND THEY LET HIM KEEP HIS PHONE?!?!” was I believe this is the correct statement.

      Because to the higher ups it didn’t matter. He was going to die anyway so they had no use for a thorough investigation. They likely just told the police to let him keep it. Plus, do you really think he’d have cellphone reception that deep into an underground prison room?
