Would love you guys to do more of this type of videos. Or even break down the creative process for designing your pickups in general. Thanks for documenting this.
...and most people have NO IDEA what goes on behind the magic of that song they play 1,000 times. this interaction and chemistry in this video is what makes the music we all love so special. thanks guys for taking the time to share this moment with us all.
I think one of the smartest likely unintentional occurrences in this process was tuning this pickup to an extended range guitar. It’s so common to get muddy tones with a longer than normal scale length, so by making something that sounded spectacular on a dirty guitar, you actually end up with something that sounds PHENOMENAL on guitars like Les Paul’s and PRS’s.
Amazing, informative, and very enjoyable video. I’m not an avid listener of Misha’s music, and by that I mean, I have limited experience with it. But I can definitely hear the magic of these pickups and watching these guys go through the process of design has helped my level of understanding tremendously. Well done!!
I love how incredibly thoughtful Tim is. I also love his philosophy that he shares in this video, and his overall business philosophy that he has garnered with BK. I always go back to BK pickups because they just sound better than the rest, due to the care and quality that goes into the products.
I really appreciate this video, watching how in depth that they get with constructing every finite detail and the fact that they blind test these without prior knowledge to relieve bias. I'm looking into these pickups for a high end ESP and this certainly helps with my decision.
Very cool to get an insight into the process of how pickups and their sound profiles are created. I would love to see more of these for upcoming BKP models!
Hey just wanted to let you 3 know. I finally went down the rabbit hole. Changed my entire "thang". Thanks for designing an outstanding product. So much "gear" these days is just overkill and marketing. These are great and certainly not that.
After buying a guitar with Ragnarok 7's in it, I was very puzzled when I heard the tone they gave. I came from the Juggernauts and came to watch this video again and the tone is unlike any other pickup I've experienced it has this very bright/spunky/aggressive tone but the CLARITY and output are out of this world even on the cleans it's pretty aggressive. It takes time to get used to for me at least I am very pleased with them though. It's crazy how accurately they nailed the final result as they described the pickups beginning to end on what they wanted I am just impressed they nailed it.
Jesus christ, this dude is a fucking master. Hears a few words out of their mouths and IN A NIGHT, comes up with something that replicates it to a T AND more options.
I've always heard that Nolly was actually the best guitar player in Periphery. I wonder if that was ever in the back of his head. I remember being the best guitar player in a band I joined in college, but wound up getting stuck on bass because the band was formed by a couple other guys first, and that's where I slotted in. It was frustrating. Not saying that's why Nolly left, he had legitimate reasons for wanting to take his life in a different direction, but I wonder how often he got the urge to be one of the guitarists in the band.
Crummock iPhail I’m pretty sure he plays a lot of guitar in periphery, like in the studio tracking and the writing process. He’s too good not to write at least a couple of riffs I assume. So it’s not like he stopped playing guitar for the band but just performs bass in the band. That’s how I view it, cus Nolly is super talented just to be a guitarist or just a bassists.
The only situation where he wasn't a 'guitarist' in the band was live. He wrote many of the main riff in many songs (including the omega title track) and you can see him tracking guitars throughout various studio updates dating backing to P2. He was even on P1, he played the shredding solo on totla mad!
I think he really liked playing bass. He's said that he began to focus on his bass playing over guitar, and as with playing guitar for the band, he plays guitar and writes and records riffs just as everyone else does. Prayer Position was a total Nolly riff-guitar song. Whatever calls for Nolls' playing on guitar he'll play, or if he writes a riffs, it's just the same as everyone else's. I think it didn't really matter at all that he wasn't a guitar player, because of the skill level of everyone in the band. I remember he was saying on the URM podcast that being in Periphery, in terms of guitarists, is being spoiled, cause they're all incredible guitarists, practically capable of playing anything anyone writes, and whoever was recording the part was up to who's style sounded the best.
Guys, could you please make video with comparison of Juggernaut and Ragnarok pickups? I would like to hear them "next to each other" because I would like to buy one of them. At this moment I'm leaning more towards Juggernauts, but I want to be sure that I'm right.
Here we see England's and America's special relationship at play not just in terms of sharing a common language or rich heritage of metal but also by co-opting the term Ragnarok concept somewhat ironically (Nolly and Misha are technically godlike in this meta).
Also it’s interesting how this and the silo documentary both have 64k views right now. Seems there’s a commonality among bare knuckle fans, as apparently EXACTLY 64,000 of us like these videos 😅
Nothing like some cats arse near your face Nolly haha some very nice playing by you and Misha but Tim struggled to hear himself speak over the playing.Nice one
In the past I have only replaced passive Pickups so I don't know a lot about active pickups and their interchangeability. I currently have a set of EMGs (81/85 I think) in one of my guitars and from the moment I got that guitar thought about replacing them sometime in the future. What problems could I run into if I was to replace just the bridge with one of these?
svelle When going from active to passive you will have to change the volume and tone pots 500k is usually for passives. You will also have to get an output jack socket that works for passives.
If only Tim put this kind of effort into anything but Djent pickups.. how wonderful that would be. They might have a real diversity in their product line. As it stands now, aside from the "modern" types none of their other categories have been updated in 10+ years. Not a fan of this.
Nolly has achieved full bond villain status
I love how the three of them are in a serious technical discussion and during that Nolly casually nails an epic lick after another..
its a shame he left the band though )': hes probably my favorite member
But he's still a big part of making that band sound as good as they do in the recording process. Plus they're all still bros which is sick.
Playing the sweeping lick from Emperyal by Sylosis. That's slique
I forget who it was, but one of the three guitarists said that nolly is the best guitar player in the band
23:35 Nolly throwing in some Sylosis Riffs lol
Empyreal haha @joshsylosis look at Nolly playing your sweeps
ayyyyyy
was just about to comment on that haha!
Nolly casually knocking out the Sylosis Empyreal sweep 23:33
I noticed it too!
i see the periphery bois got together with mark holcomb from the future to make these new pickups, suprising he learned brittish in his later days
Tim seems like a fascinating dude... I feel like I could pick his brain for days.
Pick-up his brain for days
Nolly's a fuckin SHREDDER !!!
REAPER Drums he did play guitar for YEARS before playing bass in periphery.
23:35 what the hell Nolly
That's a lick from the Sylosis song "Empereal"!
@@QuincyKane just got it for a year i thought to myself i know that sweep
That Cat.
He actually runs the show.
As long he doesn't run the company. HUEHUEHUE. Sorry.
Would love you guys to do more of this type of videos. Or even break down the creative process for designing your pickups in general. Thanks for documenting this.
Thanks, we'll definitely keep this up going forwards, and we're looking at our video content at the moment, so all ideas are very welcome!
Spent almost as much time watching the cat as I did listening to you guys!
It’s so good seeing Nolly! Baddest bassist ever!

Nolly with a cat just made my day

just ordered a ragnarok bridge for my PRS Modern Eagle. can't wait to get filthy.
littleredguitars2 me too! But for my EC-1000
what do you think about them since you have them for a few monhs ? :)
@@mattz1686
what does it sound like with your ec1000
Nolly!! Thought t drum channel was it. Utube algorithm did good. 🍻✌️
Very cool to get an insight into the process of how pickups and their sound profiles are created. I would love to see more of these for upcoming BKP models!
This was an awesome watch!!!
brilliant video - more please!
22:40 that sounds like It's Only Smiles
Also sounds like The Contortionist - Clairvoyant.
It’s so weird seeing Nolly just go off and In the thrash and burn tour diary misha even said yea our friend Nolly he’s better than all of us at guitar
23:33 sweep picking from sylosis- empyreal?
yes!!!
I noticed it too!
Really interesting hearing how the windings and wire gauge, resistance, etc all come into play. Would love to see more stuff like this

Guitars, cats, and nerd speak. More of this please
Very interesting thanks

Damn that middle position sounds great!
God damn that Empyreal sweep at 23:33
Nolly shreds!!!
IMMEDIATE SHOUTOUT TO THE SETUP GUY WEARING THAT CONVERGE BACKPATCH
We'll pass that on!
It's made out of a tote bag lol
That is true DIY wow
That shit is sick fersure
misha throwing in a cheeky bit of the final fantasy prelude at 20:26
sounded more like DTP - Ki
Jesus christ, this dude is a fucking master. Hears a few words out of their mouths and IN A NIGHT, comes up with something that replicates it to a T AND more options.
I sent this to my friend and it took him 4 minutes to realize this had nothing to do with Thor
Can't wait till mine get here!
Nolly just absentmindedly TEARING that fretboard up

Reasons why P2 is the best... for me at least.
It may be what I'm looking for. The Bite of a pickup like a nazgul, with the ability to do extremely nice cleans?
Guys, could you please make video with comparison of Juggernaut and Ragnarok pickups?

jamjestrysiek I have the juggernauts, but would also like to hear how they sound with the same riffs each haha
Tim is a genius, nuf said...
Tim sounds like David St. Hubbins!
The similarities don't end there haha
Jeez, Nolly is INSANE
Tim just sitting there watching Misha play like ,"Yyyeeeesss..... goooood"
I would love to work at Bare Knuckles' R&D department. So interesting.
17:40 looks like Misha is falling asleep.
Sylosis sweep yes!

still rocking my coldweat bridge pickup on my 7 string. one of the best investments I have done.
23:34 haha sylosis!! Yeaah nolly!
22:45
Nolly fucking killing it man
oh man the kitty
Is there a reason why they are not using Logic Pro 10 but an older version? No one was bothered to upgrade :)
That Meteore Shirt
Nothing like some cats arse near your face Nolly haha some very nice playing by you and Misha but Tim struggled to hear himself speak over the playing.Nice one
I'd hangout there for the pickups and the cat
Nobody going to address that window behind them monitors?
thinking of picking up a blackmachine copy and whacking a bkp in it, either this, the nailbomb or a juggernaut
Will the Soapbars fit an a Schecter Omen 8?
Me at 7:41: *gasp* CAT!
You can tell how tired they are cause the video started in day and ended in night and they all have bags lolllll

If you only replaced the bridge you would be left with a non working emg in the neck so i would recommend saving up for the bridge and neck pickups.
Dat Mesa preamp behind Tim tho ❤️
0:21 You're welcome
Tim reminds me of Frances Mcdormand for some reason
Best pickups ever. Check my demo if you wanna hear it in a less djent/proggy context. It really is the ultimate humbucker.
that is the djentiest cat ive ever seen. cat is so djent
Did Nolly skate a lot?
23:28 what the fuck was that I thought my monitors were blowing up
Vsauce, is that you?
Kind of like the Alpha Omega advertisement...
