Catra was my second favourite doll. My favourite was frosta. I collected nearly all the pop dolls all mint on card as well as mint in box swift wind and some playsets. This was about 15yr ago, I left them at my mum's and she moved and the movers lost or threw them away. I was living in a one bedroom that's why I'd left them there. Hi Scott! Somewhat related, could we get an episode on figure scale and cross-play potential? (Though of course for many of us these days that equates to "display" or "diorama".) Even to this day I'm baffled by why there are so many odd scales, sometimes even irritated (like, "I'd've *gladly* paid for ___ character but it's not compatible size wise"). I'm sure there are a lot of factors?? Thanks again for another cool episode! Stay safe and healthy.
Hey, Scott! I just read through all the comments to see if anyone addressed the number 1 thing that I've been wanting for this character. Like many, I love this character, love this toy, and understand why she came with the accessories she has. BUT I NEED A FREAKIN' CROSSBOW FOR HER! I was hoping the shield and others would've been saved for her toy version down the line and a crossbow put in their place. She is one of a handful of Horde members without a crossbow. Was a crossbow for her ever designed?
The boardroom mentality in the 80s were "boys wouldn't want female characters" was just stupid. I had absolutely no issue getting female characters. While I was never a big MOTU/POP fan, I wanted figures of say Cheetara in Thundercats or April O'Neil from TMNT for example. Actually there was one female character that I always wanted but never existed as a toy for decades: Transformers G1 Arcee. None of the female Autobots got toys back in the 80s and they were all pretty cool. It always disappointed me as a kid there was no Arcee, especially when she was a main character in the Transformers movie. As time went on it was discovered that Hasbro did actually intend to release an Arcee in the 80s but they had that "boys wouldn't want female characters" crap. Another line that could have benefited from female characters back in the 80s is Marvel Secret Wars. Did they really think figures of Storm, Rogue, or She-Hulk wouldn't sell? She-Hulk was one of the main heroes in the comic. Though, today's "make one body and churn out as many different women" mentality is also pretty dumb. Ok, I'm starting to rant. Better stop now. On a side note, if the Netflix versions of the characters in She-Ra ever got a Classics style release, I would snap up each and every one of them.
@@GARY84ROCKS And yet the research proved wrong over and over and over again when it turned out that girls actually liked the "boys stuff" as well. But the people in charge had this idea that -sarcastic tone - girls only like to play dress up with their dollies. -sarcastic tone ended-.

Hey Scott, are you ever going to do a video on the Terroar, Plasmar, & Lord Gr'asp three pack? I would love to hear your thoughts on why those characters were chosen and about their history and unproduced characters from the original line. Thanks!
I didn't really have anything to do with those and I'm not sure if I will continue the series to the Super 7 figures as I didn't work on them. Time will tell!
So I’m curious. What do you think of the Netflix She Ra cartoon? And if you were still Doing MOTU Classics would you have pushed to add Netflix she Ra characters into the line? I mean the show has a lot of amazing character designs like Catra, Shadow Weaver, a Beefy almost Clawful Esque Scorpia, a Reptilian non-binary Double Trouble, and even some REALLY COOL takes on Hordak and Horde And horde prime. It was almost like the spiritual She-Ra Equivalent to 200X in terms of what I like to call “redesign Glow Up”… however much like how 200X focused a lot on repaints of the core characters like you said in your disco skeletor video, from what i can tell the she ra toy line dropped the ball in that as far as I know they Only really released dolls and figures of She-Ra, Adora, Bow, Glimmer, Catra and like MAYBE swift wind, but ignored really cool and Toyetic characters like Scorpia, Mermista, double trouble and Hordak.
Great Figure. I always imagined Catra as the prototypical female soldier in the Horde. There were lots of Magic users and one trick ponies amongst the MOTUC characters so it was nice to have a simple, Bad B#$@ on the roster. PS: The Netflix She-Ra series was a dumpster fire aimed at 3% of the fan base and best forgotten..
@@devastated_studios Ideally I'd like to see a reboot where Filmation Catra is combined ( in her powers at least, maybe aspects of the look too ) with minicomics Catra, who had more sorcerous powers ( & was really a bad b*tch... she snatched Bow's arrow right out of the air & punked him... all whilst she was still being sexy af lol ). In terms of reboots, same goes for Hordak's powers: i.e., I like when they remember he also was a very powerful sorcerer ( & I still hold that his Filmation transformations into tech weapons were still magical transformations ). Hordak did make one of his earliest appearances in the very first She-Ra minicomic, in the same abduction story as in the Filmation theatrical movie & She-Ra series: & I'm pretty sure the art is also Bruce Timm, as it looks almost identical to his look in the Bruce Timm art for Grizzlor's debut comic ( both from that same year of 1984 ).
So Scott...if you were in charge of the decision back in the day, would you have suggested NOT making POP an "action figure" line as opposed to a "doll" line? Obviously, what I'm asking you, is a business-oriented question...as in: What do you think would've been more financially successful? It's a question that kinda takes the "She-Ra took He-Man down with it" theory out of the equation.... but is still indirectly related.
An interesting thought. The whole reason She-Ra was created was because 40% of sales were to girls. So I think starting the line as an action figure line would not have been too out there at all.
Thank Filmmation for that. They wanted to save as much money as possible by designing characters with similar builds to make it easier to reuse animation frames.
@@rayvenkman2087 Oh definitely I love it they all look like my mom and me as a child watching He-Man and the Motu I used think they where made after my mom lol
It stinks you didn't get to make a Clawdeen figure for Catra. If you did, I wonder if Cartoon Network/Warner Media would have filed a lawsuit since she looks exactly like Lion from 'Steven Universe.' The Netflix show didn't include her for that reason.
I never watched the netflix series, so I don't know how Catra was like in terms of personality and character development, but aesthetically speaking, I think the Filmation Catra looks better. Netflix Catra looks too much like she belongs in a Japanese cartoon. To be honest, I'm not too crazy about netflix She-Ra's aesthetic at all.
@@spectorcreative1872 I doubt it considering the dolls from a few years ago didn't sell well and most people will likely forget about the show in a couple years.
Filmation's Catra was a neat character, her design & distinctive manner of speech was enjoyable as a kid. The tween/teenage sexuality portrayed on Netflix's cartoon was pathetic for a children's show. I guess certain agendas get a free pass these days....
I only care the original vintage toy design of the Princess Of Power line. They have more details, and when you see the artworks of the toy packages, like Crytal Castle... Crystal Falls... Butterflyer... I cannot understand, that cartoon design looks better??? Same for the vintage Masters Of The Universe line. Catra is a unique figure and the main villain of She-Ra. The vintage toyline is a mix of Action Figure & fashionable dolls like Barbie inspired. I only want to see by Mattel to bring some Exclusives ... the missing The Star Sisters figures in 100% vintage design... or some vintage released figures in prototype look used in catalogs and commercials in the 80's. Mattel should make stuff like these and not ugly Netflix She-Ra toys - this series is garbage only!

Yeah, no idea why she never got a cross bow. In hindsight I would have pushed for one. It is a very Horde thing
And this is an AWESOME video!
Well thank you!!! Feel free to pass to anyone else who might enjoy
@@spectorcreative1872 always do!
Research said otherwise. Over and over and over.
@@GARY84ROCKS And yet the research proved wrong over and over and over again when it turned out that girls actually liked the "boys stuff" as well. But the people in charge had this idea that -sarcastic tone - girls only like to play dress up with their dollies. -sarcastic tone ended-.
Well let Mattel know that is something you would like to see! Make it happen Mattel!
@@Trikeboy2 You missed my point (and, amazingly, you missed your own post's point as well). Research said otherwise that BOYS DIDN'T BUY MANY FEMALE FIGURES COMPARED TO MALE FIGURES over and over and over.
@@GARY84ROCKS and you missed my point. The research has been proven wrong, over and over and over. Thats actually the third time I've said that. Lets try for four: The RESEARCH has been proven WRONG.

Is it possible to do a retrospective of Clamp Champ in the future and focus on ethnic representation in toys?
Check out today's video in fact!
amazing vid!
Well thank you so much! I am most grateful for taking the time to watch and comment.
@@spectorcreative1872 Ah, I did not know they were from after your time on the line. Thanks for the reply!
I think it's so weird that a lot of the Netflix She-Ra fans seem to really hate the original series
Well everyone's a critic
The designs I like, the story was not for me
@@spectorcreative1872 fair enough
Great Figure. I always imagined Catra as the prototypical female soldier in the Horde. There were lots of Magic users and one trick ponies amongst the MOTUC characters so it was nice to have a simple, Bad B#$@ on the roster. PS: The Netflix She-Ra series was a dumpster fire aimed at 3% of the fan base and best forgotten..
To this day, I still wonder if they should have done 200X Season 3 or find a better creator to run the show.
What Netflix show....
@@spectorcreative1872 LOL
Are all the females in the filmation cartoon clones of each other. They all look the same but with different hair styles lol
Thank Filmmation for that. They wanted to save as much money as possible by designing characters with similar builds to make it easier to reuse animation frames.
Well in the vintage line they shared a lot of parts from a logistic manufacturing view point
We did have plans! See the 2016 video.
Netflix Catra is the best Catra. the others are a bit too one-note in personality and shallow in motivation. "mischief"
Since the Classics line predated Netflix by a while, it was pure vintage. Maybe someday Mattel will do 6" based on the Netflix series.
@@spectorcreative1872
I doubt it considering the dolls from a few years ago didn't sell well and most people will likely forget about the show in a couple years.
And then a producer turns her into cutesy erotic fan fic entitled She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.
Pretty much

True
Filmation's Catra was a neat character, her design & distinctive manner of speech was enjoyable as a kid. The tween/teenage sexuality portrayed on Netflix's cartoon was pathetic for a children's show. I guess certain agendas get a free pass these days....
That they do...
Oh my ... the original figure was so ugly. Classics was so much better.
We tried!
netflix series sucks
So I hear
That Netflix series does not seem to be getting a lot of love in these comments! And check out the new She-Ra video going live tonight at 7pm EST
