Also, some reviews, or ones I've seen, shows some clips. Most of them are action-like, and the reviews tell the watcher of some elements of the story. You can't make a reason of something without telling what happened before, or most likely you will need to do that. Say "Kong with an axe is way better than on paper." First of all, spoilers that Kong has an axe(if the watcher didn't didn't the trailer), and how the heck did he get the axe. Now I understand is that I'm saying bull****. I'll say that the deaf girl, Kaylee Hottle, was great in this movie and her performance is easily the best of all the humans.

Wholeheartedly agree. And as a hearing person who knows ASL because I had 2 deaf parents, it’s really refreshing to see a Hollywood blockbuster movie cast an actual deaf girl. Her signing was of course perfect and heartfelt and overall her performance was amazing. I hope she gets more work, she was great. The cheese in non-deaf people trying to sign is like listening to Gerard Butler do any accent that isn’t Scottish.

I would die to see Nicolas Cage from Will's Wonderland replace her. It's just too perfect, he had no voice dialogue in the movie and he would fit being a little girl who befriends Kong as well. I can see it now...

Someone should really make a giant monster movie with no human characters where the main character is the actual giant monster and it's entirely carried by visual storytelling. It's hard to do but it has been done very well so the right director could really make an incredible film out of it.

The entire b-plot of the movie with the comedy trio was a build up to a “I’m gonna die and I’m gonna do that sober?” joke

...Jeremy it's literally on the ending of the last movie.
Yeah it bothers me when people have issues with movies, but the issues are things that were explained in a previous film. Obviously the monster verse films aren’t his favorite, so I can’t blame him for not knowing overall as I’m sure he’s done a single watch of each of the movies and then shelved them, but these movies are not totally random. The hollow earth thing has been explained and mentioned since the start of the Monsterverse.
I actually really liked the subplot with Jia & Kong as it gave a plausible reason for why he worked with the humans & didn't just go ape shit (pun intended) the second they tried to transport him.

Do you understand the term 'realm of possibility'?
The movie sets the rules and then us, the audience, then enjoy and judge the movie within the 'rules and boundaries' set therein.
For example we expect people to fly in a super hero movie. That's within their realm of possibility. We suspend our belief and go along with it.
Now in this movie. This gorilla that can punch over skyscrapers, and values his space and freedom above all else, is held in a little zoo for how long? And why exactly? And this woman that has been studying this monkey for 10 flipping years. He is inside this little zoo, she is equipped with the latest surveillance tech, but doesn't know that the monkey can speak sign language?
Are bloody kidding me!? Do you see how the plot contradicts itself? Can you understand that?
Am not saying you can't enjoy the movie, that's your prerogative. I however liked the fights but imho, if am allowed one, the plot is total shit and therefore ruins the movie as a whole.
Didn't they say somewhere that Kong parents came up through hollow earth to skull island? Why not try to find that way through and avoid Godzilla by going to sea? Why they didn't keep him asleep on the sea journey? But knocked him out for the air trip? So he can awake and therefore alert Godzilla for a sea battle?
That's the best story the writers can come up with to build to that showdown?
See all am saying is; a better plot, keep the action. You don't care how the story flows, as long as the monsters fights gets you hyped. You are a simple viewer and I respect that but I needed a better story bro.
@@wroachwar Honestly, I feel like the Jia/Kong subplot is the most realistic part of the movie. Kong is just a big gorilla, and real world gorillas can learn sign language and get attached to people and pets. Yeah, the sign language being a surprise obviously means the dome didn't have full camera coverage, but that's really a minor thing.
As for the rest, I absolutely agree that stories should stay within consistent boundaries. Like I can buy that titans exist, even though real creatures that size would just crumple on themselves, but seeing a dozen helicopters lift Kong (or the Jaegers in Pacific Rim) still bothers me because I have no reason to believe helicopters in that universe have the thousands of times more power they'd need to do that. However, I still think the viewer has some of the responsibility for filling in gaps the story leaves unstated. Like why didn't they use the tunnel going down from Skull Island? Well, maybe it was sealed off because the skull crawler nest we saw in Skull Island was still down there.

Jeremy, they've been building towards the hollow earth since Skull Island. It's not like they just thought it up. I expect the next movie will take place entirely in the world of hollow earth as they explore what dangers lurk there.
Yeah but the bad writing and pacing makes you forget all of that shit. All I remember on the past monsterverse movies are the fight scenes.
They've sort of been, but what exactly it is has been inconsistent. Remember in King on Monsters it was a network of water filled tunnels with areas of high radioactivity. None of that is here, and there doesn't seem to be an explanation for the weird gravity stuff.

The last act fight btwn Kong and Godzilla with no soundtrack or background noise. The silence in the scene just made it the best scene in the whole movie.
Except for the cutting to the Millie Bobby Browns annoying crew. That could all do with cutting out. If anyone would be down, make some edits getting rid of most of their scenes please.

Funny enough, the center of the earth section was my favorite section. It's so insane that I was just there for the ride, and that become more clear when mecha godzilla enter the picture. Like, come on, Jeremy, at that point you must have know what kind of picture this was.

My neighbor's sweet pit dog just finished attacking her owner yesterday morning after having to try stop her own dog from tearing another owner's dog. I think making a gorilla look harmless in the movie theater would certainly bring about the end of some idiot whom decided that thinks martial artist gorillas speak the same language humans have and then get beat by the their own wet ends the process? The only thing good were the special effects, now that's where it shines 👍🏼

It took me 2:19 to realise I wasn't watching an old Jeremy review and he's finally got a cut!
I only have two problems with the movie.
1. That they need to team up against something that isn't a life ending threat to Gojira (he would have won on his own, this is proven by the fact that the whole mission to the hollow Earth is to find a power *EQUIVALENT* to Gojira). Oh how I wish to have seen them team up against something that's actually worth it example Destroyah.
2. Kong versus the Warbat. I believe Kong would have escaped and defeated the Warbat, but for some reason they needed to add the humans there to save him. Making him look incredibly weak...
If the MonsterVerse doesn't continue this is a pretty terrible ending...

This movie was the most "Godzilla Movie" out of the Legendary movies for me. The "2100 tech" is even par for the course considering Japan in the 90's movies made several Godzilla fighting robots/weapons: three Super Xs, Mechgodzilla, and Mogera.
Japan also introduced a weapon that's based on creating a black hole!
That standing in line at the theme park comparison is remarkably accurate.

Watched the movie this morning with a grilled cheese and a beer. That’s about the best way I can imagine myself watching this movie. And in that way I liked it and will probably watch it again under the same circumstances.

giant monsters fighting is a concept that can be sold to us but if u already establish that we have modern day tech in godzilla 2014 and then just a few years later tech is literally just magic it becomes immersion breaking. u can be immersed in magical elements but not if u change them once they’ve already been established. use brain

I thought jia and kong's bonding worked. Usually in these movies, the human stories are crap but this particular storyline worked for me.
I like that they went real with her teaching him sign language. I thought at first they were gonna do the Hollywood thing where she could somehow read his emotions.

Agreed. They really should have done more with Serizawa’s story. His father was one of the main heroes of the last two movies and this guy is NOT following in his father’s footsteps.

And again, just because it's always been that way doesn't mean it should continue to be accepted. He gave a pass for Pacific Rim because despite the uninteresting humans, the fights were done well enough. That doesn't seem to be the same case here from acclaimed director of Death Note and Blair Witch.

Let's be honest, you don't see a movie called "Godzilla Vs Kong" for an incredible human connection between well rounded and well acted characters.
You see it for the giant monsters beating the hell out of each other.
That's the core of the movie and it's incredible. But if the "supporting pillars" is rotten it really makes it worse.
I think they prob should have remove the human and simplify the plot. More exploration on the underworld and more fights.

The first fight in the ocean was a little unfair to Kong. Godzilla lives underwater and Kong was chained. We really can't count that as a W for Godzilla but I'll give it to him. Kong wasn't seeking to fight. Godzilla seeked for him. It was an ambush. Kong was just going to Hollow Earth before getting attacked. The first fight symbolized the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Kong could've killed Godzilla after he hit him with the ax and Godzilla fell back. He could've went to where Godzilla was laying and start hacking away with the ax. But he didn't. He was hanging on a building which is homage to him hanging on the Empire State Building in the old films and just waiting for Godzilla to get back up.
I'm totally okay with Godzilla coming out victorious in 2 of the 3 rounds. First, Godzilla did spawn the MonsterVerse back in 2014. He does get top billing here. Second, he really is more powerful and would win. Kong would have little chance especially without an ax. Atomic breath means roasted ape. And third, Kong needed to be the hero at the end.
If Kong kills Godzilla, then he would've been killed by Mechagodzilla. And it would've been the same thing for Godzilla if he didn't spare Kong's life. No way either titan would've defeated Mechagodzilla because it looked completely lopsided when Godzilla went at him.
Kong wasn't created for kaiju films. Godzilla is. Kong isn't about destruction. His story is about slavery and a love story. Original 1954 Godzilla was about destruction and mayhem. Kong wasn't supposed to be that big in the first place. They had to increase his size at least 10 times more to stand a chance against Godzilla.
Kong was not meant to fight monsters. And even if Godzilla is catered more to fight and destruction, we can see his flaws with his short arms and bad mobility due to his mass. Big legs. Small head, hands, and torso. In real life, most of us would be rooting for Kong. We can communicate with him that we couldn't with Godzilla. Apes are our ancestors.
If Kong had slashed away at Godzilla with the ax, then the movie either ends or Mechagodzilla kills Kong. It needed more story and if Godzilla killed Kong, he'd be dead moments later. So Kong had to lose Round 3 only to be revived again to save Godzilla. Reviving Godzilla's heart would be something the audience wouldn't accept because they already accepted Kong as the protagonist.
Kong is really the only opponent Godzilla ever faced closest to a human. Do Godzilla fans really think Kong would lose to some of the monsters that Godzilla has beaten? A giant moth being one of them? 🤣 I think the conclusion satisfied both fanbases. I love both of them equally, and I'm happy for the result. I think when Godzilla is swimming looks so cool with his plates sticking out. I really love how they illuminate at night.
Godzilla is the winner between him versus Kong in this film. That wasn't the case back in 1962. But Kong is the biggest hero of the film and one of the greatest non-speaking characters in cinematic history. Great results. Fans of both should be pleased. Makes sense in terms of story and how it would really play out in real life.
Movie ending: Everyone looks happy.
Reality: Yo, both of you killed all these people and you destroyed billions, if not trillions, of property. Us humans have to clean up the mess you two made? Damn you Godzilla for starting this!

Yep they did but it had more meaning to it than BVS. Godzilla is older than Kong it's to be assumed and had probably fought his parents or just his people in general but they were rivals from different worlds so they had no real beef so when Godzilla defeated Kong, that was his " hey we fight another day but I got shit to do. Just surrender and move on". Idk maybe I was too into the movie lol....unlike Jeremy who forgot what fun movies were about.

I think kong's side of the characters is fine, I love the moment when Kong understand sign language.
That part blew my mind, but when I thought about it, OF COURSE HE WOULD, it made perfect sense since Kong is so much more than just a 'supersized gorilla'. It's surprising yet completely justifiable, qnd I love it when movies can do stuff like that.

The thing with me is I cannot decide if skull island or Godzilla vs Kong is my favorite monster verse movie. I really enjoyed it. This movie definitely has its issues but I still had a really fun time and really enjoyed it. You should pretty much just turn off your brain during these movies. You aren’t supposed to take them seriously at all. You are just supposed to have fun with them and I always do.

There’s a whole side quest part with kong so he’s on screen a lot.

Hell, I'd say suspend your disbelief for 2 hours. We got enough shit on our collective plates. Watch a cool movie and see what creative could make under the stress of a pandemic. Movie was great in that regard.

Let's be honest Millie Bobby Brown's group could have been cut from the movie without changing anything. The best human character was the crying deaf girl.
Millies group shouldn’t be cut. What it should have done is be more interesting because if it was cut, it would just be a Kong movie with Godzilla as a sideline character, which he still is in the final product. The reason why Millie’s group aka Team Godzilla wasn’t as interesting is because well, Team Godzilla really didn’t focus on Godzilla, Team Godzilla was just trying to solve something, they didn’t interact with Godzilla. If it was played better with Godzilla’s interaction, it would have been more interesting and add on to the story.
Millie's group could be cut and the film would have been the same. a waste of characters and time IMPO.

@@FireJach Yeah I agree. While the team is needed because how can we understand what Godzilla is doing and why he is attacking without a group that are trying to figure that out. But the problem is that this movie was more focused on making the story about Kong rather than Godzilla, so I think Team Godzilla not being good in this movie has to do with the fact that the director didn’t really put that much thought into Team Godzilla than what he did with team Kong.

But when it comes to a monster movie like this, there is no way in hell you can recreate the IMAX experience of watching Godzilla and King Kong fighting on a screen the length and width of a small building. On top of that with an audio system that makes my goddamn chest rumble when one of those big bastards roars. Unless you're a really dedicated millionaire with an insane private home theatre. There's also the added experience of getting hyped up with a huge auditorium full of equally hyped strangers when cool shit happens. I stand by the fact that a lot of movies offer a very unique and often very superior experience in the theater. It would be a real shame if movie theaters become a thing of the past.
@@David-gj9qr but that is the thing though thats why cinemas exist. most directors make there movies for the big screen because its cinematic. in the cinemas you have cutting edge tech like dolby vision and dolby atmos or 3D when done right. you have speakers that will shake the whole building and truly immerse you in the experience. i watched Avatar in 3D at the cinema and it was bloody stunning i watched avengers infinty war and endgame in cinemas all stunning and watching it at home will always pale in comparison

Well, if you do watch the movie some people would try to come to their own conclusions as to why he’s there.
My best guess is his importance got lost in the shuffle of figuring out how to make this movie in the first place. This movie tries its best to trim off fat and go straight into the kaijuu brawl. They had a window to make it and they did the best they could. Which in the end is a fantastic product.
