Chris Stuckmann reviews Godzilla vs. Kong, starring Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, Demián Bichir. Directed by Adam Wingard.
The thing that surprised me the most was how agile they made Godzilla in comparison to previous iterations, I was like "oh he movin movin"😂
Damn that move of drowning kong or the attack on all fours and tail whip and claws was brutal. Kong learned well who is king.
He always adapting
When he started running towards Mecha, I was like “oh shit, Zilla running now?!” Like dude was sprinting
@@shel0016 that one move he did to Kong reminded me of the move crocodiles use to drown their prey aka The Death Spin
He was tanky af too, Godzilla was on steroids in this movie

Well yes same here
Insects are still alive irl I guess. Building hives all over the place, making a bunch of noise. We should blast them with our lazer breath.
I loved that, without dialogue, they essentially had a scene of Godzilla telling Kong to submit and Kong answering he rather die.
A scene that should live on live on forever. That was Oscar stuff or Emmy blah blah..
love your profile picture!
The scene right after godzilla whoops his ass and kong refuses to go down and just collapses?
@@ultimategohan1551
Yup
The very scene that demonstrated that no matter who the opponent and how harsh the beatdown he gets, king Kong bows to no one. Even godzilla gets it now
“The second half is nonstop Kong and Godzilla stuff”
I am pleased, I am pumped, I am ready
I saw the movie, you have no idea how epic the climax is🔥
Utterly terrible movie outside of the CGI battles. I understand that the monster fights are what you watch these movies for, but the human storyline was so pathetically bad and cheesy that I genuinely couldn't enjoy the movie. At least Godzilla 2014 had bearable human characters and a functioning plot.
Seen it also. It's so fucking epic
@brandotendie I have, and it has the same problems that all the other Monsterverse movies have. Shitty human characters, a scattered plot, cheesy lines, etc. The big CGI battles are what you watch these movies for, and at least they held up fine. They can't carry the whole movie though.
@@pinheadlarry8006 kinda did for me because that was my expectations. I know characters will be shit, plot was gonna be meh, but I certainly know the brawls are what I'm looking for. So it's really about setting your expectations.
I like how they made Kong feel like an oversized member of the good human team. You truly will feel sympathetic to him especially since he's basically a kidnapped animal. Godzilla otherwise is like a living breathing natural disaster as he should be correctly portrayed.
Shit. Kidnapped animal? Trapped in a little zoo, the same kidnapped animal that was destroying buildings was held in a little zoo all this time? Only the fights were ok. Everything else was weak.
@@wroachwar fights! ok?
Your opinion but I think you have no taste
@@AE_15x ok since I have poor taste, do you mind telling me beside the fight scenes, what else about this movie was worth mentioning?
Did their explanation of Kong in a little zoo makes sense, the whole sea journey then by air did that make sense? Within it's own realm of possibility did anything in this movie make sense?
Or are you so easily entertained? Does a game of peekaboo excite you?
The plot of this movie was convoluted and stupid. Progression through the story dumb.
@@wroachwar do you think ppl watch these for humans🤔 i don’t, they will most likely make more monsterverse movies explaining it
@@unknownplayer7667 no one is speaking about the humans. The humans are there for exposition. Explaining things as they unfold since the monsters don't really have dialogue.
However the plot of this movie was trash. Do you think am supposed to like the movie because of a few actions scenes, is that all that makes a great movie?
At some point you feel bad for Kong. He was forced to fight and he is just like a huge human. He doesn’t have durable skin like Godzilla, he doesn’t have any superpower attack. I’m glad that he was finally at home where he could roam free.
ikr
Yea I love both kong and godzilla but I knew godzilla would win and Kong didn't have much of chance. He definitely held his own but i feel bad for him cuz it was kind of a losing battle for him and he didn't even wanna be in the battle. I'm really happy about his ending and I can't wait to see more of him in Hollow Earth
@@mish2637 Ikr. By analyzing both's strength and weakness, godzilla can easily beat kong.
Fucken oath
Im a Kong fan and I know he will not stand a chance against Godzilla, I just don't like how some Godzilla fans hates Kong. I'm hoping for a dap or shake hand at the end tho 😭😂💪
Waiting for a fake Kong someday? For them to reunite again. He he.
Honestly I died when the dude called the little girl a coward 💀
😂😂😂😂
And when she tried to hide her smile 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Genuinely a well written scene that was brimming with heart
I wish they hadn't used the subtitles to remind the audience what that gesture meant, same with when Kong signs "Home" at the end. They should've trusted the audience to have been paying attention to the gestures, since they're both very noticeable & incredibly simple.
@@leonkuwata4510 I would use the word signs instead of gestures btw lol
The low gravity scene would’ve been the PERFECT time for Godzilla to use his Atomic Breath to push him in the air and fly
Not to mention Godzilla's infamous dropkick, but SAVE SOME OF THAT FOR THE SEQUEL! 😉

Yoo if they showed that reference it would be the greatest shit
Or do the flying drop kick!

YES
I love this franchise!
Just make more Pacific Rim movies already.
No talkin
Millie Bobby Brown's character literally didn't do shit this whole movie, except for talking and walking around to places.
Edit: Actually, she did find the secret door or whatever, so that's something.

She pissed me off
that's the point
The others actually did something like pouring water on computer and shit. But this character literally didn't do anything.
@Cruzinthruspace But you are ok with watching a 2 hour monster movie for only 25 minutes of monster action? If you are gonna have the human element, at least make it plausible to the plot.
Holy shit, this movie exists. I vividly remember not believing any of these Godzilla movies would come out, like, five years ago when they were announced.
On top of that , it's actually really good!
Dude right?!?
It looks awesome too!
*I JUST SAW IT IN 3D* and I must say I LOVED IT, total surprise, best of the 4 by a mile, the director did the Guest and a couple other movies I liked, the visual effects were best I've ever seen. This one was like a cross between Pacific Rim and Tron and Transformers, but done very well.

I'd like to thank the directors and everyone involved in the Monsterverse project for not letting the franchise fall into the same hole Pacific Rim fell into.
As a huge fan of the first Pacific Rim movie, this comment made me cry inside and agree fervently at the same time
Pacific Rim could have been a great franchise. I really enjoyed the 1st PR. The 2nd PR was complete garbage. Who says storylines don't matter in monster movies?
With the first one, you can truly feel the director just wanted to have a good time doing that film, and audiences truly feel that. The result was pure enjoyment.
The second one was too cluttered with focus groups, pleasing everyone and trying too hard to copy the first one. That's why the final product was cluttered, unfocused and all around uninspired.
Pacific Rim was always doomed without Guillermo Del Toro, you can’t just take the passion project of a legendary director and haphazardly continue it without him
@@artbargra the second one was shit because they made small clumsy Avatar robot and call it Pacific Rim. We want Heavy, slow and big ass scale mecha fight skycrapper monsters but instead they gave us fucking minions running around weighlessly.
“Quick we need two American teens” “I can give you a Brit and a kiwi”
I honestly had no idea she wasn't American; her American accent is pretty solid.
I hated that guys character, that alcohol scene was stupid, Kong and Godzilla should have won alone
American teens are so hard to find
Millie Bobbie Brown was born in Spain, but she lives in UK, so I guess she still counts as a brit.
@@kin2955 It was laughable in a way that they had to "do" that in order to show that no matter how crappy the humans elements in this film are, they are still needed in the end 😂 Goodness lol
I really liked this film. I was rooting for Godzilla to kick King Kong's ass. But the movie made me feel for King Kong, for the first time ever. I felt sorry for what I was rooting for before the movie.

If you listen closely, it sounds like he's giggling too.
Even more perfect, he did it knowingly he was going to win with that atomic breath of his. Pure amazing, would’ve loved to watch this in the cinema for the best experience!
When did that happen in the film I feel like I missed it
@@krhodes866 when he hit Kong’s back with the atomic breath in the Hong Kong fight
@@krhodes866If you would like a time stamp, around the hour 24 min mark.
When Godzilla gave kong that " Now you know and understand I am the Alpha Titan and KOTM" nod...that was epic.
Yep godzilla respected also that kong wont give up but showed him whos king. Dang kong had heart attack from those 2 stomps and a dislocated shoulder. I think godzilla would have killed meca if he wasnt tired and battle damaged a bit from kong
But who put in the most work? King Kong
I mean if we're going down that route, Kong got revitalized and Mecha didn't hurt him as much cause of Godzilla being a homie at times, while God was being thrashed longer after being exhausted from Kong. Makes sense then Kong had more opportunity to put in work
Yeah but Kong was victorious at the end not zilla. Mechazilla made zilla a ragdoll. That was epic.
@@Valscer yeah because MECHA GODZILLA was Ghidora basicly and Ghidora didnt like getting burned alive last time, so he hates godzilla thats why he focused mostly godzilla there

this movies special effects are the art.
People over analyze shit 2 much. Damn can we have some mindless fun
Exactly
Every body absolutely must see this movie. Because I AM IN IT!!! Part of it was filmed here in Hawaii and there's a scene with 300 extras, including me, running away from Godzilla. Godzilla swats at a plane and it crashes in front of where we're all running and we quickly run the other way and break through a fence to escape. So, enjoy Godzilla and Kong, but be sure to look for me running in fear away from Godzilla! I might even have a close-up, as I was running straight at the camera several times! :)
Cool! Definitely gonna check it out
We will try our best
Guess that gives me a good reason to watch the movie again. 🙂
😂😂🤣 very cool.
Nice o.o
I honestly like that the Monsterverse is becoming as ridiculous and cheesy as the old Godzilla films from the Showa era. It’s like a really high budget version of those films and I could not be happier. And, of course, I can always come crawling back to Shin Godzilla for something as bleak and terrifying as the original Godzilla film.
The fights of this movie are the greatest fights in the entire Godzilla saga, and one of the coolest, most epic moments in cinema history. Pure rush of adrenaline.

@@stevewalker6240 I understand the complaint of not seeing the fights clearly for 2014 but for Kotm despite the particle effects you could still tell what was going on because even at night you got that ambient cyan light and it was pretty clear for the most part, especially with emphasis with sihlouettes.
And yes I admit for Kotm it fumbled a bit with the human drama but at least it made an attempt and succeeded for the parts I thought mattered most. Like Mark Russell's arc I though as I thought it tied in well to Dr. Serizawa's speech combined with well done religious imagery.
@@stevewalker6240 That's exactly his point. In the KotM review Chris himself was over-analyzing the movie - now he's telling us not to worry about it and gives it a higher grade.

Godzilla vs Kong is what the monsterverse should be. Climatic, coherent, well shot battles that don’t cut away from the action combined with some decent human characters, incredible cinematography, and great music. If the monsterverse continues, I hope that these elements are expanded upon greatly, and I hope they make room for more classic monsters like Biollante and Gigan.

Honestly speaking
The graphics of the film, visuals cgi vfx was epic next level.... And that acting perfomance of that deaf and dumb girl was brilliant chemistry between her and kong is very heart touching...

* Godzilla atomic breath hits Kong *
Godzilla: *G O T C H A !*
Certainly one of the inconsistencies within the film. Godzilla's atomic breath was strong enough to create a hole that could reach the center of the Earth and yet when it finally hit Kong's back, it was just like having a 2nd/3rd degree burn?
Anyway it's not really a big deal. Just wanna throw this one out lol
@@terrorazeing it's not like we are lore consistent anywhere ever... It changes at film by film basis... XD
@@terrorazeing
He only breached a fraction of what you think.
His breath likely went down into the Vortex and skipped thousands of miles to get into the Hollow Earth.
@@bro-be3bd In the 1:19:53 mark of the film, the hole was clearly shown and it was just complete blackness. There was no signs of any CGI fx to show that the vortex was indeed within it. So since it's been shown like that, I'll just assume that Godzilla literally created a hole through the hollow earth. I mean c'mon, the movie has a fun kind of overall silliness into it. I'm not even surprised if it's one of em.
@@terrorazeing I think it only gave Kong a burn because he was only hit with it for a fraction of a second, while when Godzilla blew a hole in the Earth he stood there for over a couple minutes drilling a hole. It’s kinda like touching a hot stove, if you tap the stove you’re only going to feel a pinch of pain, but if you leave your hand on the stove for a while it’s going to give you serious burns.
when someone tells me a movie is a throwback to late 90s or early 2000s, i take that as the greatest compliment to the movie as those were the golden era of movies for me.
Exactly , my favorites still are Jurassic park and T2
that is true. like what chris said, i mis going to cinemas and watching movies like that were it had more simplier depth and more fun in it.
Blockbusters were a lot more light hearted and simple back then. I remember someone saying Tomb Raider was the last 90s-esque blockbuster before everything took a turn into darker territory because of 9/11.

I’d personally give it a solid B+ . In the modern equivalent this is basically cream of the crop b-movie material. And it rises above just by being insanely mind -bendingly good looking. It’s insane that visual created reality had gotten this far.
I'd say it is also a B but with like an asterix. The only reason it is a B is because it doesn't have interesting humans (apart from the girl) but it does soo damn well at nearly everything else.
I wouldn't give it an A either because the human side characters are just bland, tbh, I just wished they didnt add Madison or any other Godzilla side characters and just kept Kong's instead.

Absolute blast of a movie. Although I wasn't that big on the music compared to King of Monsters, this movie is a Giant monster dream. I loved how neutral Godzilla is, fitting for his character, and I love how they didn't do some BS move like make Kong so overpowered he one shots Godzilla. It felt believable to each other's strengths and weaknesses. I actually cared for the human characters. I thought this movie finally nailed it where previous big monster fight films failed. I didn't go, "back to the human stuff" in a cynical voice. I actually wanted to see them and know what they were doing, even if one led to a predictable but satisfying conclusion. This ain't a deep movie, which is fine. There is a time and place for that. This a movie that's about lizard vs monke, and it's great.

i did care about the human part in King of Monsters... i hated that mom character with a passion! i was so pissed thinking the movie would forgive her for her terrorist bullshit and murder of thousands of people. she even participated in direct murder, by bullets, of guards when they arrive in Gidorah's station. i knew she would 'sacrifice' herself to save someone or something and it pissed me off during the whole film. i wanted the husband to kick her ass and feed her to Gidorah.
@Branden Wright yeah but it was a somewhat 'redemption' death, almost heroic. granted not as heroic as most movies would make, but still. she was literally a murdering terrorist. she did more harm than the 'bad guy' in the movie. and involved her daughter in it, jesus.

This was how king of the monsters was supposed. Who's the moron that thought focusing on the humans during the fight instead and barely show the fighting was a good idea?
This was a really great movie for me, they definitely gave you what you want with a ton of monster battles. I especially loved how much they showed the monsters and how they stopped doing that annoying "teasing you with the monsters here and there till the 3rd act" thing. That was my biggest frustration in the past Godzilla movies. This one finally fixed that and gave you want you wanted. Plus while the humans are still kinda side-tracking, they are less boring in this one and some actually mattered in the story.
Also about Chris wanting them to fight in that gravity area. I think that would have been really cool. They kind of already fight spinning around in water but i think showing them fighting around flooring lands with crazy gravity is great too.
Still them fighting in a city at the end was destructive and awesome lol. Reminded me of the "Godzilla Destroy all monsters" game i played for Gamecube back in the day lol, where you fought with monsters and destroyed as much of the city as possible too.
