Maniacs, how we doin?! been a while since I have built or released a new video. Things have been pretty busy but now I have a little extra time to start putting some work in on the bench.
This is part one of a Tamiya M41 Walker Bulldog series where I focus on building the kit, fixing a few errors, and making a couple of minor enhancements with minimal effort. In this video I explain how to make welds using Tamiya Putty, how to use Milliput on plastic models, and creating cast texture on your model. Everyone who enjoys military modeling has likely built one of these kits in the past. They are simple, cheap, and generally available in most shops. In fact, here in the U.S, they are part of Hobby Lobby's main lineup and can be had very cheap with a coupon. The problem is, this is an old mold and definitely shows its age. There are some egregious seams which are very hard to fill, but there is one simple trick which I describe in the video that can correct those problems, while also adding a little bit more interest to what I consider a very inconsistently detailed model.

Comment down below if you like building legacy kits with poor fit!!!
My brother had this kit when we were young lads in the seventies. It had a motor (as you mentioned). From memory it was an horrendous kit for him to put together, but he persevered. Later he told me it was a learning experience on the road to being able to adapt and modify poorly manufactured kits. Me? I just have never had the patience!😊
I used to get frustrated when I had to figure a way to overcome engineering issues but now I see it as a challenge. Some of my best builds, such as my Trumpeter LAV were built from awful kits.
Everyone should have a few of these. Hobby Lobby just had their 40% off sale on kits, and I picked up two more @ $14.50. These are the perfect "junkyard" pieces for trying out paint schemes, weathering techniques, and yes... practicing your little rope weld beads. LOL
Yeah those welds were not easy lol.
Yep.. a good kit for beginners . And since just about every WW2 and Modern Tank is made in 1/35th... Tamiya should offer a new tooled kit of the M41. Thanks.
Priorities are most important, and I understand you at all. I like how did you do the review, and assembly of the model kit. Especially I like how did you do the turret of the tank.
Keep up the work.
Thanks bud and glad to see you still stuck around! Working on the painting / weathering video now. This one will be a bit more interesting!
@@JBookieScaleModels OK. Excellent. Looking forward to see it as well. I have also few tanks of mine waiting to be assembled as well. You can see the unboxing video of one interesting tank on my channel if you are interested as well dear friend.
@@Harikejn For sure man!
Just picked this kit up today from Hobby Lobby. 40% off sale on all boxed kits. Cost me $13.19, can't complain!
Still one of the best kits to experiment on!
Really nice to see a video from you again, your commentary is what got my subscription. I can also say I must be a rarity because I've not built one of these, or a T-34 or even a Tiger I (yet) 😂
Thank you gor sticking around! It's a rite of passage as an armor modeler to build one lol, go to ebay and see if you can grab one on the cheap.
I think only 1 out of 20 modellers add the stamped "X" on the side stowage boxes. I used to have that kit in my stash, but decided to sell it hoping for getting the Skybow kit someday. Oh yes and I got the Skybow.
Just finally bought this kit today after eyeing it for years, can’t wait to build it, great video
It’s a good time for the price. Surprisingly decent considering how old it is. Beware of the tracks though, very tight.
@@JBookieScaleModels my tracks weren’t that tight surprisingly, pretty much perfect on mine
@@kbproductions2041 Good stuff, I remember the first once I put together. I would up ripping the running gear off and had to reinforce everything with superglue and hypodermic needles.
Welcome back! Glad you took the necessary time for yourself and the real world. I'll be around here regardless :)
Haha and yes, I have certainly built one of these classic Tamiya horrors in my younger years as a South Vietnamese scrap heap
Hey man, thanks for sticking around! Good thing about model building is that it will always be there when you feel like coming back. I just had to buy myself a lab mixer to shake up all of my paints lol.
@@JBookieScaleModels haha honestly I need to snag one of those too and see if I can extend the life of some of my gummed up enamels. Which one did you go with?
@@BrailleScale intllab mini. 50$, works like a charm.
Well mercy me, here’s a blast from the past. How you doing dude?
Hey bud, pretty good! Been a minute, figured I'd build something shitty lol.
The Funny thing is. I have this same kit / price. Guess what? They filled in the holes in the bottom of the hull. So I didn't have to worry about that.
Hobby Lobby has a never ending stockpile of the originals in a bunker somewhere.
Yo bookie, surprised to see a new video!
What up my dude? Been a minute, but finally got some time to sit down and get things sorted.
I wish I had knew that you needed glue for this instead of get frustrated at everything just falling off (the instructions where in Chinese 💀)
when i built this tank i covered the entire superstructure (roadwheels included) in a modeling paint mixed with acrylic paint because the colors were so basic 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Did you airbrush it?
@@JBookieScaleModels no I used a sponge brush
@@SearingSliceOfToast that’s interesting, hopefully it came out ok!
Look how they massacred my boy!
I like this dude.
