My favorite activity since childhood has been European travel. That’s a must do for anyone!!! Other than that, art galleries, classical music, opera, wine tasting, tennis. Young kids today really need culture. If they weren’t raised with any, luckily there’s many channels here which teach it! Find them!!👍👍
I find this video very interesting, although I'm used to analyse these things from the sociology viewpoint, not the style side... In Europe we have of course aristocracy and upper classes. And yes, private schools, ballet and piano lessons are a must. We grow up learning several languages. The way we talk and behave is taught at home and school, so there are not many looking for speech classes. Actually, the way you speak (tone, rythm, melody) tells everyone your social class. Well, the film My Fair Lady explains this point very accurately.
So, to your list I'll add:
-attending ballet classes
-having your clothes taylor-made, instead of buying them, so men visit their taylor and women their coutourier for every new season
-attending fashion shows
-not only concerts, opera, ballet, theater, museums, but being subscribed to them, taking part in their associations, their meetings and their classes.
-organizing home plays: with friends and family, get dressed, learn a play or write one for the occasion, recite poems, sing songs, especially during summer, at your summer residence.
I guess i'll remember more activities in the future, i'll stay in touch.

Old money is very real in Europe. Where we live in Bavaria, there is a LOT of old money. So much in fact, that normal people cannot afford to even buy a home. Only those who inherit can buy. But they are not so fancy otherwise, I'm afraid.

that is so disappointing to hear. I feel we have a similar problem in the states as well when it comes to renting. I hope everything gets better soon because we want a home one day! Am I right?

I come from a old money family most of the hobbies to told are precisely correct .. we do like horse related sports and we also attend a lot of classical or traditional events . Going to a speakeasy may not be followed in our family most of the old money has its own bar in the house . watching your videos is relatable also i fell happy

Jay Gatsby is absolutely not "old money." The entire point of the novel is that he works his way up from poverty to riches in order to impress the woman of dreams, but fails to convincingly perform genteel old-school wealth, leading to an endless loop of class anxiety.

Oh I think you’re taking the aesthetic “definition” too literally. I’m basing it off of his house and the way he dresses which is old money.
Someone could be wealthy from making their own money and still look “old money” or someone could have no money and still look “old money”. This is just the general term for a certain type of style.
@@justlanchen His style is explicitly supposed to smack of being "nouveau riche," NOT old money, within the novel, though. It's too gaudy instead of understated and measured. I think you're confusing "old money" with "people who had money back in the old days," lol.

Suggestions:
Forget special events, spend your day doing your usual tasks, but dress up.
In addition to art and books, collect antiques.
Do a guided outdoor vacation. Like fishing, animal photography, even hunting. A more expensive version of this trip is going on safari. You don't need to actual shoot animals to do this.
Mountain climbing, there's mountain climbing trips for all skill levels.
Art classes
I love the idea of dressing up for normal tasks and SAFARI! This is such a big one that I totally forgot to mention.

@@justlanchen Going on a safari is a dream of mine. But they are very expensive, especially since it's not something you want to do cheaply. I would only be hunting photos, if someone wants to bag an animal, it adds thousands to the cost. Personally, I abhor trophy hunting.

The hats and fancy clothes are only really for ladies day at ascot once a year it makes it more special. Lots of people only go to ladies day. There maybe some other days this might apply but ladies day is the special event. 🙂
Oh yes that’s what it’s called! I saw photos of it recently but I didn’t know it was only one day a year! Cue me going to a horse race wearing a fancy hat because I don’t know 😂

I use to play chess during my high school years and even join the Chess Club, but after graduating from high school, I stopped playing it. Also for piano, I did learned it using Simply Piano Apps (not sponsored). I guess this is sign I should start learned it again.
Tennis, or if you want to follow trends you can pick up pickle ball / Paddle tennis(depending on your location)
Almost forgot. Volunteer for an archeological dig.

Garsby is not old money. Tom Buchanan is old money. In gossip girl old money families would be the Van Der Woodsens, Waldorfs (I.e Waldorf Astoria), Archibald-Van Der bills), but the Bass are obscenely new money

I had to search, I was confusing 'Gossip girl' for 'Gilmore girls' the first word only has the same first letter (and vowels in the wrong spots, with no 'e') and the second word is singular instead of plural. I never watched either, but I do think Blake Lively is a hottie (Blake Lively Matters!) I once saw a woman who looked just like her, but she was with some guy; dangit.
