    P.S. Mistakes and Comments
    I said at 4:20 that there are only 11 bosses that can be poisoned. This is wrong. There are 12.
    Demon Prince cannot be poisoned and Pontiff Sulyvahn should be put on that list instead.
    I did not bring up Arstor's Spear as part of a "poison build arsenal" because I felt that since you could not infuse nor buff it with poison, its potential was lacking.

      @dangitjm You can also poison High Lord Wolnir by not waking him up and instead, walking up to his hand and just poison him through either the staff or pyromancy spell. I did this last playthrough and it was truly cheese. Just took a very long time with pyromancy as I didnt have the staff. Just to let you know :)

    6:30 there is another point, if they aren't expecting poison, which many players might not be given its rep. Sure they prolly have some purple moss on them, but they have to retreat, get it on their hot bar, without dying. So it becomes a major distraction

    • @nathanjohnston9762
      @nathanjohnston9762 7 лет назад +27

      If you play a poison build, you play the long game. It's not about doing damage quickly. It's about making your opponent run out of estus before you do. It doesn't matter if they run away or stand and fight, you just poke them and retreat repeatedly until they realize that their only option is to run. I used Anri's Straight sword and resin to get bleed and poison AND passive healing. So while the opponent loses health, I gain health for every second they don't press the attack.

    • @iota-09
      @iota-09 7 лет назад +15

      psh, that's lame.
      45 luck, 99 hollow, as much dex and stamina you can get(attunement can be used too, though it depends on where you want to use this build)
      rhotten poison ghru dagger, any ability shield(and parry shield as well if you feel fancy, it won't hurt), hollow bandit knife, and poison infused notched whip or bleed infused spotted whip(can't remember which of the two can't be infused)
      you'll become their worst nightmare, they'll never be able to get those status effects off of them, adding in a storyteller staff for field control will just make it better if you know when to use it.
      the playstyle is pretty simple, use the ghru dagger till they're poisoned, change to the bandit knife to use as main, if they get close a lot, parry, dodge or use the staff to put some distance between you and him, if they use cover to try and cure themselves, use the staff and the whip to keep them on their toes, if they keep on playing defensive, just keep on hitting em with your dagger, eventually they'll succumb to either the poison or bleed.
      note: the ghru dagger has the sole purpose of inflicting poison, the whip serves only to make them panic seeing that it makes both statuses go up and that it goes through walls, same goes for the staff which most likely won't poison them, also being the bandit knife hollow you can buff it with whatever you like, you may also get only 40 luck and have a hollow shield in your left hand.

      Have you ever even tried invading in the High Wall? It’s password summoned gank squads the whole way. At this point, there aren’t really new people playing through the game. I have poison on my SL16 +1 build that I use at the High Wall and the poison effectively makes it so that the host doesn’t get to have any estus since it’ll all be spent recovering from poison damage. It’s also unlikely that the host bothered to buy any of the 5 poison moss clumps the shrine handmaiden sells so it’s a sure thing. I’ll poison the host and then turn my attention to the phantoms since the host is as good as dead. Loads of fun to use, but can only really be used effectively very early on when poison is actually impactful. It’s also barely even a twink thing to tech in since poison gems, the Farron coal, and the ghru weapons are all available fairly early on.

    • @BLK_MN
      @BLK_MN 5 лет назад +6

      Darius Penner I invade people at mid level 60~.
      Plenty of people, in plenty of levels. Twinking doesn’t really matter after level 60 or so; you can get almost every item by this point.
      If you invade people at low level, especially twinks, you just want to be over powered and over prepared compared to your targets. Invading players that don’t even have +1 estus is just sad. Pathetic even, go play with people on an even field or don’t play at all.
      What about gank squads at low level? Who cares? If you need to password summon 3 friends immediately after the tutorial, you seriously need help, and me invading you at this point doesn’t really prove or help anything.

    • @dariuspenner2528
      @dariuspenner2528 5 лет назад +1

      Invading at low levels is fun because of how you can min max your builds for survivability, high damage, or some sort of gimmick like a SL7 millwood greatbow build. It also makes the PvE more challenging since in setting it up your limited on both your SL and how much you can upgrade your weapon. And as I said earlier, poison at the High Wall is barely even twinking since poison is available very early on. From there it’s an elemental longsword and a high vigor stat. The amount of estus that I have or the other rings I’m using are barely even a factor once poison procs since it essentially takes away most, if not all, of the host’s estus. And get off your high horse about twinking. You act as though there’s anyone new playing the game. I did an hour of invasions with this build when I first made it and got 2 solo hosts the whole time. Everything else was gank squads. Try invading the area for once and see how pitiful your 1 or 2 base level estus are.

    Poison works really great for me actually, the extra damage you get in when not having to hit someone. If you are aggressive and on someone you can get a couple hundred damage in on someone without making contact which is great. Pluuuus for PvE and playing solo it works out pretty damn good too.
    Toxic and Poison stack. PvE dont cure it. You can have blessed and Simple items to restore points over time. So if you are having trouble and are playing solo its a good choice.
    But playing with a friend or against an invader it helps a bit out. May not be the best damage but you can get people through walls. Its all in how you use it like any weapon or spell in this game. Nearly every thing is viable in this game. But this is just from my opinions and experience

    By chance, I happened upon a storyteller staff the first time I killed one of those... (storyteller bird dudes?l) I didn't know it was an item that I should have had to grind to find.
    But I used that thing for the rest of my playthrough AND I used it while invading other players in the Irithyll Dungeons. The pressure I could apply to people panicking in that area was amazing.

    Great video. Another thing i'd like to add is that i personally use a poison infused dagger. It's weapon art quickstep allows you to dodge pretty much any form of attack head on, then you can spam attack till you inflict status, this is easier since the weapon is quick and will continuously break poise and even guard of an enemy. When facing single opponents in pvp, i rely on a poison dagger and an irithyll st sword. The dagger i generally use early on to inflict poison status and then continuously apply pressure with irithyll straight sword. The lingering poison effect and the frost status inflicted can be quite a pain. Basically a dagger and a short sword will let you apply severe pressure on your opponent in a one on one fight. This doesnt work when facing multiple opponents though.
    Pair these weapons with armor of thorns and youve got quite a build. Just make sure you abuse quickstep weapon art and rolling s. Bonus if you equip caestus. With caped armor sets, it's not particularly visible long as you keep rolling and equip carthus milk ring for maximum effect.
    Keep in mind that without a decent melee damage weapon, poison builds can be difficult to pull off.
    All in all, a great video that highlights what i think is an underrated strategy.

    Don't forget that Poison and Toxic are separate status effects, so you can stack them. Also, if an enemy is vulnerable to one, they're almost always vulnerable to the other as well. Storyteller Staff + Pyro Flame with Toxic Mist allows you to melt anything not outright immune to them.

    Heck yeah! Love poison builds. I'm certainly on the sadistic side. Love seeing people panic roll and try to flee while poisoned. I love getting inside their head, chasing them down until they get sloppy and try to heal, or lash out in a desperate attempt to finish me before the poison finishes them.

    Did you try Anri's Straight sword with poison? You're passively healing while the enemy is passively dying. Just keep refreshing the damage over time and backing off. Eventually, the opponent runs out of estus or tries to R1 spam. But Anri's straight sword has a very fast roll attack that lets you continue attacking as a combo that they can't roll out of until the third hit. Just R1 spam them right back and they'll take extra bleed damage along with the poison. To top it all off, Anri's straight sword has a hidden luck scaling bonus so you're not sacrificing raw damage in order to get the poison/bleed working.

    Contemplating infusing the Ghru Spear with Bleed, as no spear has innate bleed, the higher bleed over poison level will be handy as bleed doesn't have a timer to wait for between bleeds, and the poison comes as an effect after you've already bleed the foe and are probably on your way to bleed them again. IDK, I can't think of a better spear to infuse with bleed besides going the round of the Halberds just for higher base damage.

      Ds3 just copy pasted what Ds1 did..
      The Devs saw all the trolls mocking Ds2 and were like.. “let’s appease the trolls and remake Ds1 with a refillable magic meter, special attacks, twice the endings and lore that is so up the originals ass that it neither adds nor expands the story.

    I used Arstor's for a low level invader, like close to base stats almost, and it did work. I didn't have to travel into Farron Keep to get it, and leveling it up once gave it enough damage to wreck shop early. at +1, it has 18 more AR than the Ghru spear, which may not seem much, but most early level encounters have relatively weak armor and defenses to go with it. Technically you could use the Ghru stuff at even lower levels than Arstors, but as an invader, getting free HP whenever ANY enemy dies can come in handy when you have low level estus.

    Poison and toxic are fun to use against high lvl enemies when you’re a very low level. I like throwing dookies at silver knights (while invisible) find a quiet spot and wait out the duration! :P
    When I first played Dark Souls 1, I used dookies against the very first black knight and...killed myself and him. I didn’t know it also affected you until it was too late.
    Added - Toxic and Poison are a great cheese tactic to use against the slave knight at the end. You just have to be good at dodging with landing a few hits for extra damage.

    I've found that for PvP, dueling, undead arena and 'fight clubs' it's less than useful since the fights either end before the damage becomes relevant or people carry poison curing consumables. However for invasions (especially in lower level ranges) it's phenomenal, since having slightly more damage per hit usually doesn't mean much when the host has summons or is estus healing, however if you manage to poison them they usually do not have poison curing consumables and often will waste a lot of estus on the poison if not dying to it altogether because they ran out.

    While making my bleed build I occasionally toyed with poison to test its potential. I ultimately came to a similar conclusion as you did, it's good in it's moments depending if you can cause panic.
    As I was testing a bleed build the whole time though I came to one more conclusion, poison damage is just like bleed damage just spread out over time.
