One thing to note for "Fear, Sex", it's not necessarily an interlude, but more like an epilogue to "Death and Romance", as it's featured in its entirety at the end of the "Death and Romance" music video. This is Magdalena Bay's 2nd full length album, and they also have 6 EPs, with their most popular track "Killshot" coming from their last EP, "Little Rhythm and a Wicked Feeling". Through most of their discography, they've mostly stuck to synth pop, and this album is the first time they really went more experimental and exploratory with their tracks in all the best ways. I'm trying to remember, but they might have done it once or twice in their previous work, but "Imaginal Disk" definitely stands out, since they did it on nearly every track.
Thank you for this that actually makes a lot of sense. I was tweaking that entire time after the track I debated putting the Charlie Brown womp womp adult voice over it all because I was yapping nonsense lmao
Vampire in the corner into Watching TV is ridiculous. I didn’t love them at first but it gets better every listen and turned into my most played songs of the year
another note I had on how the whole album sounded in general: the whole album sounded like i’d already known every song in a good way. like every melody felt familiar and like something almost nostalgic
My only gripe about this perfect album is the first song is not easy to get into. And it basically turns a lot of more mainstream listeners off from giving the rest of the album a chance. The other perspective is it sets the tone that it’s an album not intended for the masses. That resonates with those who are more interested in something different.
I think you might still like their other album Mercurial World. It isn’t exactly like this or as consistently great. But, there is a lot to enjoy there as well as with the rest of their discography.

Also love how the titles of those two tracks go together, death + fear, romance + sex
I rlly think of them as connected

Fun fact they produced running out of time on lil yachty’s album and then just reused their sample on Love is Everywhere
38:50 her singing reminds me a bit of Britney Spears
Carly Rae Jepsen for me
Maybe grimes
I'd say Britney too!!
Every single comment here is what I was thinking during the video but I didn't want to sound like a fkn idiot lmao

Sometimes her voice reminds me a bit of Natalie Imbruglia in "Torn"
Britney Spears. That’s whose voice she sounds like.
Have you listened to the new Mitski album yet?
she sounds like caroline polachek😉
I love both Mica and Caroline Polachek, but what on earth are you on?
i think she sometimes sounds a bit like kylie minogue
she sounds a lot like grimes and melanie martinez, its like a baby-ish voice
i would definitely say give a listen to submarine by the marias!
