    A few people requested an update, so here it is. Not much has changed. The Pinktail Chalceus passed away: RIP. He was a little over 8". I have to shoot the videos at night otherwise there is a nasty glare, but the downside is that most of the Clown Loaches turn in early so you don't see many of them. The larger ones especially like to go to bed early. In other news, the tank survived the 4.0 earthquake we had a few weeks ago. I always wonder what I'm going to find after an earthquake, but so far so good. Thanks for watching.

      Alex diaz you should let the algae grow in your tank only a the back area , because when their alot of algae its very fluffly and it will be a cool looking back ground for the tank

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  8 лет назад

      +Victor Techakaisri I like your idea. I've seen that type of algae before and it looks really cool. The only issue is that several of the species I keep love to eat algae (the Flagtail especially, but the Arulius barbs and the Wide-bar SDs would munch on it if it were to get long). Maybe if I were to eventually keep different species of fish, I could try growing it out.

    bro i love ur tank. i used to rock a 240 gallon with monster arowanas and big oscars and amazon catfish. i also kept flagtail prochilodus as juvies and i know they get like over a foot and i always wondered wtf is up with urs. does he never grow or is urs like stunted or sumthing. anyways ur doin good in life to be able have that tank!!! also you should get like 5 more flagtail prochilodus fish and ur tank needs a mellow arowana!! that would be cool

      @aldiaz33  8 лет назад

      +ty tyler Thanks Tyler. Glad you like the tank. I think you might be right about my flagtail being stunted. I've seen videos of some monsters and I'd guess he's only around 8 or 9" and he's probably pushin 5 years old. In regards to the Aro, my goal was to keep smaller fish, but sometimes I do think that an arowana cruising around the surface would be cool. Thanks again.

    I've seen a lot tanks, and this has to be one of the most spectacular ever. When I first saw it, I thought it was from a commercial aquarium or hotel lobby or something. One of the nicest things is how natural the behavior of the fish seems. Do you charge admission if someone wants to see it??

      +Alex Diaz Thanks for the kind words. Funny we just ran into each other on the forum. I do have one more question. What room in the house is this tank in? Can you observe it often? What a commitment that is.

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  8 лет назад

      +Greggz111 It's actually in a small 18'x10' pool room detached from my house. The pool room has a poured concrete (slab) foundation whereas my house is on pier and beam foundation (with wimpy 2x6's). I would need to seriously reinforce the floors in my house to be able to support the weight of the tank, but I actually prefer having it outside of my house; I don't worry about flooding in the event a catastrophe (we have earthquakes here). In regards to maintenance, it's actually not that much more work...just takes longer to refill after water changes.

    • @Greggz111
      @Greggz111 8 лет назад

      Makes sense and too bad as well. A shame to not enjoy it more often....but my tank tank is in my den, so I completely understand. By the way, I showed my wife the video...and the first thing she said was "Where is that? That's not in someone's house, is it?. When I told her it was a personal aquarium, she was stunned.
      If you ever decide to go fully planted on that tank....you'll need to get a wet suit!

    • @jasyankeesfan
      @jasyankeesfan 8 лет назад

      +Alex Diaz Just in my experience, but my pictuse catfish like to roam all over too occasionally, but for the most part they stay at the bottom and are veryyy active so it's really entertaining lol. It all just depends on how active you would want you tank to be which clearly it's already very active lol. I'm also really impressed on how your green texas, green terror, oscar, and jack dempsey get along. Love the set up and keep it up man!👍

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  8 лет назад

      I'm not a fan of most catfish because most of them just sit on the bottom and do nothing until it's time to eat. Pictus are really cool in that they seem to never stop moving. I may end up adding them; I really like your idea. In regards to the cichlids getting along, lately the Green Terror has been getting picked on, but it's the Clown Loaches that are roughing him up, not the Oscar, Texas or the JD. Thanks for the kudos.

      +Sujeimar Arroyave Restrepo Hola Sujeimar, My Spanish is poor, so I will respond in English. I believe the wood is Oak. It was pulled from a local Lake (Folsom Lake) here in California. It was sandblasted to clean it up, then I placed it in my hot tub with bags of gravel over it so that it would get waterlogged. What fish is the ones that are shaped like roseline barbs with the red finds and the line down its body? If you had 6 more of them they would look so beautiful in a school!

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  8 лет назад +1

      +IBMikmaq I actually started off with 9 of them, but I had a really bad ich outbreak that took 5 of them out. They are pretty hard to find. They are called Cyclocheilichthys janthochir. Some common names I've seen them listed under is Red-Fin Bala Shark and Red Fin Silver Shark. I also like how they school so tightly together. They are rarely more than 1 foot apart from one another. A while back I decided not to add any more fish because the risk of introducing disease/parasites just isn't worth it to me since everything seems to be in such good balance now. Glad you enjoyed the video!

      thank you so much for the reply, I am going to try to obtain that species and see if I can breed them.
      You make me want a similar size tank! My biggest was a 420 gallon.
      I would love to see that turned into a planted aquarium in the future using smaller fish species in larger schools. A large group of guianacara owroewefi would look amazing! I love seeing large schools of smaller type fish in huge aquariums then you get to see their natural behaviors!

      +Review Wales It was built by an acrylic aquarium manufacturer that was based out of Arizona. They are no longer in business anymore. I am the second owner of the tank. Making a tank this size yourself is possible, but you would need the right equipment. The large panels each weigh several hundred pounds (the entire tank weighs ~1,200 lbs- empty).

    Where'd the filament barbs go?!?!

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  8 лет назад

      +Don Mayfield What's up Don? I felt horrible about it...all your Filaments died after a large scale water change. I think they were used to the way you do water changes (I think you mentioned that you treat the water prior to adding it to your tank whereas I empty about 50% and add Prime as I refill). Your way of doing water changes is better, but for me to do that with ~400 gallons makes it tough. I think it must have been chloramine poisoning. All of my other fish were fine, so I think it was just a shock to what they were accustomed to. Really sorry about it. I have a group of 10 Filaments growing out in a quarantine tank that you can have if you are interested. I was going to add them to the big tank, but I think it's already too crowded in there.

    • @donmayfield9605
      @donmayfield9605 8 лет назад

      +Alex Diaz awwww that sucks! The water quality in Aptos is very different too, maybe it was that. they are pretty hardy fish. On my new discus tank I refill my tank the way you do, haven't had any problems...but hey, fish die sometimes... You should add them to your tank! you got the room! Sell your silver dollars :)

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  8 лет назад

      +Don Mayfield Yeah, the water quality report always looks good, but the water out here in Concord tastes funky. My brother's dog doesn't like drinking it...he's used to East Bay MUD water which is awesome. I also grew up on EBMUD water and I can definitely taste a difference. The dog sniffs my Concord water and looks at me like, "I have to drink this crap?" I don't blame him, I'm the same way. This drought probably isn't helping either. Haha, not a fan of the SD's huh? Before your Filaments died, they bred. I have 3 that are growing out in my sump right now (about 1.5"). They are in there with a ton of False Arulius barb fry.

    • @donmayfield9605
      @donmayfield9605 8 лет назад

      +Alex Diaz The water quality in Aptos is bad... Pumped ground water, hard as rock. I grew up in Stockton, water is terrible. I'm in SF now. I have a 180 Gallon bow front Discus tank. I have 18 blue diamonds plus some plecos, corys, brass tetras, a few barbs, etc.The fillament barbs never bred in my tank....that's cool that happened. usually signifies good water quality and health... ugh you never know

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  3 года назад +1

      I had read a long time ago that the males have a "double hook" (anal fin) whereas the females have a single uninterrupted hook (anal fin). I am not sure if this is true (I've never seen any eggs produced), so I can't validate this, but there is definitely a difference in the shape of the anal fins on my fish.

      +Christian Harnisch Thanks Christian. In regards to only having one flagtail, I've read that if you keep more than 1 you should have at least 5 because otherwise the dominant one will pick on the other. If you have a group, it disperses aggression. These things are crap factories and I don't want 5+ of them mucking up the water. I've found that algae eating fish are some of the messiest fish (right up there with goldfish). I really like them, but I'm happy with just one. Thanks again for the kudos.
