a few months ago i experimented with bottled ammonia and the tank got "cycled" in 7 days. I was really happy with the test readings and the ammonia was processed really quick and the water looked great. I put in some guppies. 4 out of 5 died within a week with no ammonia spikes. I really enjoyed today's sermon, Father Fish. Preach it brotha!!! I read "A Fish Out of Water" as a kid, where the fish doctor said to only feed 'just a spot', and when the kid overfed his fish it grew to monstrous proportions, and the problem got way out of hand, and I am afraid our protagonist was in quite over his head, before he learned not to overfeed his pet fish. It is actually very challenging not to overfeed. I like to look at the food floating at the surface from below to give me an idea of how much I put in there, but even still it is hard not to overfeed.
Thank you, Father Fish, for addressing feeding these wonderful fish properly.🧡So very helpful! God bless you. I work with little kids. You are SO correct about encouraging the fish keeper to be in charge...and not the fish. :)
I set my tank up about 2 years ago after watching a video of yours, although I skipped a few of the substrate's ingredients, but I added leaves from the start and fish from day 1. And I barely feed them ever, like once in 4 months, I have 4 mountain minnows in a 10g. Thank you for ff
Hey father fish! I just found this video and you last night. I was on the end of day two and today I introduced 4 small fish! I hope all goes well following these rules and I can have a stable home for the fish I’m planning for.
I’ve always said that fish are predatory creatures. In nature they hunt their food. So I don’t feed my fish everyday. I might feed them 1 time every couple of days. Most of the time I mix up the amount of times I feed them over a weeks time. Like Father Fish said they are then more likely to search the tank for food. I learned this from a more experienced fish keeper when I began the hobby.

Hi Father Fish, I like your talking pace. It's very easy to understand for the people who are not so good at English. And ALL your videos are short and compact but full of much knowledge. Love YOU! ❤
I been told to put food inthe tank for a month, then test if every parameter are good. If they are, add fish. If they are not, keep adding food. This make a very boring tank for quite a long time. I just bought a 55 gallon to replace my very old 20 gallons and I have like may be 15 to 20 platies. Since I have so few of them, I may start to move them. Would be more fun to watch with very little fish then none at all. Anyway, it's will be there new tank, later I want to add angelfishs and plecos that stay under 5" (clown pleco, they are so great!). Thank you for your advice.

Thank you for your knowledge and words of wisdom. I have learned so much in the past few years after finding your channel. I now enjoy my tanks instead of working full time on them with out enjoying them. Wisdom I am truly grateful for 🤗
I remember when I was still a kid, I used to catch small fishes like clownfish and others on the shore and keep them in a fish tank. Since I was little I didn't even know about those nitrate/amonia stuff plus It has no filter/aerator, but my fish survives for many months just by changing water from time to time. The only reason they died was because my little brother feed them a whole lot of bread when I was in school. Since then, I did not try to keep any fish again until now.
Yeah I was changing my brand new tank with a betta every 2 days cause I thought that what I was suppose to do. I'm glad I watched your video. Will see if your way works better.
Yeah I always add fish inside the first week without to much hassle, I certainly under feed early aswell. Overfeeding early will crash your tanks quick without maintenance
I pray for you now cause I want grateness for you. You have helped me so much in my walk with freshwater I love your back in the day thinking to a tank. Stunning tanks too. Love ya. -S-
Hi Father Fish, Lovely to see the new style videos. Always nice to hear your wisdom and tank approach❤ Would love to transfer my small tank one day over to a true food web style tank. Without filter etc, just to see what happens. For now the tank is over a month old with a new, fresh soil layer and only last week I did my first water change😮 The trumpet snails from the existing sand were handling the bioload for me. I put in a tiny amount of food in about twice or so. I hope the tank is now ready for my shrimp to reintroduce. A few weeks after that I will look into small nano fish, since I wanted to look at something else then guppies for over a year straight🤫
I use guppies to season all of my new tank setups, I just stick them in 24hrs after the tank is up and running. The amount I use varies with the size of the tank, a small tank (10G) only need a couple maybe three and obviously more with larger tanks, then I keep adding a few more every 3-4 days to gently increase the bio-load in the tank. Guppies are great as they will forage the whole tank for a mere morsel of food, whether that be an uneaten scrap, algae or browning leaves they'll find food somewhere in the tank and keeping them hungry serves the tank cycling system very well. I've never lost a tank yet, never sustained a crash in any of my tanks and once fully cycled they are rock solid as long as you keep an eye on the 'balance' of the tank (food in, fish count, plants and oxygenation), it's hard for new fishkeepers to understand but over feeding causes more problems than any other factor in this hobby and it takes a good while for any newbie to understand this properly and act accordingly. Some great information there FF, great to see all natural tank environments being promoted properly and correctly, keep up the good work buddy, it's invaluable information for those new fishkeepers !
I just found you today Father Fish and I wish I found you when I started this, also not sure how many of your videos I have watched now. You are incredible and thank you for your wisdom! Subscribed, hit the bell and waiting for more videos! I wish there was one of you starting a new tank from start to finish for me to copy!
Lol, makes sense why I keep having ammonia now. My tanks are over stocked, so I'm always adding just a smidge more food than I probably should be, trying to make sure everyone gets some. I'm especially bad with my tiger barbs and German blue ram, but it's so much fun watching them... Like a school of little piranhas when they eat lol, and the green tigers make it better with them actually looking a lot like mini piranhas.
I’ve always added fish right off. I use media from one of my other tanks and maybe a piece of decor and some bottled bacteria and stock light and I’ve never had issues
I am waiting to put fish in until I turn the plant light out after a week. Also, I need to decide what fish to put in it. The hex tank was easy but this one I cannot decide on a fish group, I want them all. Haha!
I love how different your insights are to a lot of other channels , you take the fear out of fish keeping Cheers

The beneficial bacteria in decor, stones and sand will not be enough ??

Finally, someone is talking about fish easily, thank you!
we are so happy for your fishy teaching father fish
I remember when I was still a kid,
I used to catch small fishes like clownfish and others on the shore and keep them in a fish tank.
Love ya. -S-
Love all your content. I have had my tanks for many years. And your information helps me with my hobby!❤
Nice video thanks ! I had my tank set up after moving house and wasn't sure when to add fish, will get a couple in to cycle !
Hi Father Fish,
Lovely to see the new style videos.
Always nice to hear your wisdom and tank approach❤
Would love to transfer my small tank one day over to a true food web style tank.
Without filter etc, just to see what happens.
For now the tank is over a month old with a new, fresh soil layer and only last week I did my first water change😮
The trumpet snails from the existing sand were handling the bioload for me.
I put in a tiny amount of food in about twice or so.
I hope the tank is now ready for my shrimp to reintroduce.
A few weeks after that I will look into small nano fish, since I wanted to look at something else then guppies for over a year straight🤫
Sounds lovely Titia. Your aquariums are an expression of your beauty.
I'm so very happy
Thanks to you my fish are healthy and happy, also I’m happy to succeed without use any chemicals ❤ bc I was struggling with mechanical cycle
What do you mean with the mechanical cycle?
I salute your knowledge of fish keeping father fish

8:57 honestly how can i not subscribe and like every video 😂 what a sweet man
Love your channel father fish I’m just new to aquariums and I’m learning loads from you thank you
Thank you Drone. Happy to help.
I wish there was one of you starting a new tank from start to finish for me to copy!

i love your advices and your content. your smile reminds me of my grandfather. I hope you're doing great❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. My father has spoken!
Eating is not the only activity for a normal fish.
From Brazil!!! Than you!!!
This is very valuable knowledge
Thank you for sharing your wisdom, Father Fish. 🐠
My pleasure Jason
I’ve always added fish right off. I use media from one of my other tanks and maybe a piece of decor and some bottled bacteria and stock light and I’ve never had issues
Excellent Mike. Some material from a local stream or pond will do vastly more than the bottled stuff.
@@FatherFish I imagine so, but the risk isn’t worth it to me and my way has always worked well
I love this man, so humble❤️
Only in mixed company.
Bless you Father Fish! You have taught me so much in such a short space of time. I have shared your links with all my fish keeping friends.
Thank you father fish!
Good video ff i feed small amounts every 2nd day with a frozen food treat one a week
You are amazing, Santa.
Wish more fish stores and RUclips channels thought like you
I am waiting to put fish in until I turn the plant light out after a week. Also, I need to decide what fish to put in it. The hex tank was easy but this one I cannot decide on a fish group, I want them all. Haha!
Some fish need to be in the tank day 2.
I usually put on tap water…put dechlorine …add fish….and pray to God….that my fish don’t die
learn to create a natural system and your anxiety will evaporate.
I love this guy,hes so informative
