So chill and informative - nice work sir. Wish you were about when I was learning - all I got was people making coffee, and shouting ‘that’s fire!’ when it clearly wasn’t
Bro, I can’t tell you how helpful this video was. I was getting frustrated, but your shortcuts made doing my hit hats super fast. I observe Fl producers doing this same task but, with they’re work flow it’s complete rapidly. This is a great starting point in ableton. Thanks💯🙏🏻
JON THE DREAMER maybe something on how to draw melodies in Ableton? I’m a 99% Ableton user but somehow it’s just much easier to write melodies in FL Studio piano roll.
Hey Jon! I'm a retired OG audio engineer. Coming from a linear world I've been a bit daunted by DAWs but lovin Ableton. You sir, make it easy to learn. Subbed. Keep it up good sir.
Man!!! You just gave me the best news I've had since I've had ableton. I didn't know how to get my hihats to change pitch, I was just using the drum rack. I know music, but its learning how to operate this stuff is what's challenging to me. I am way late in the game, but am trying to learn the functions of a DAW so that I can catch the new sound wave that comes along. Thanks man!!! You just stepped my game up a notch. from the ATL Peace!!!!
Thanks bro I was wondering how people got a clean pitch drop during rolls. Smacked myself when I saw you just use a simpler and place the hats on different notes!
Revisiting this in 2021 after Live 11 has dropped. Now I'm thinking with your "auditioning" workflow here that you could line these pre-saved MIDI clips all up on different "comp lanes" and just select the rolls / phrases you want from each section.
Great video! Just found your channel and subbed for sure. Question: how do you get your high hats and other instruments in .wav form? All mine are in .adg and such. Thanks!
Hey Jon...I really appreciate the video and others. The best one for learning Hi-Hat rolls and related. As the other bruvvers are sayin..... you need to have lot more accolades. I can hear really good music just from the one video. Nice and clear. Any chance of purchasing the styles you have in your folders ? I.e. the files to upload on my ABLETON .
It’s at the bottoms. Where the effects are at I believe. Just keep seasoning. You do have it. I have the same version. It’ll help out tremendously if you don’t have a drum pad.its a good way to get your ear in tune and train it as well. It’s all having a ear for it bro. The longer you do it. The more easier it gets. I grew up playing In band and keep playing drums. You can learn it all too
yo, i know this comment is a bit late, but can anyone help me. Ive made the midi track and found a hat i like. For me, 'it says no clip selected', where it should say, ' drop an instrument or sample here'.
This aight. Analog sounds more live. Plus making beats with Akai pads is so much fun. I can’t make beats this way. To each his own. I guess because I play drums. I can’t don’t he whole mouse click. Click.
Joe Ramos yeah this tutorial is to teach people about the time divisions and what the midi looks like. If you can record them live kudos, but ideally it’s whatever it takes to get the job done. It’s not difficult to make clicked in notes sound live if you’re skilled enough and know what you’re doing.
I feel like this is probably the most technically/functionally relevant beat-making video I've seen yet. Thank you!
Loonyatquix appreciate you

Hats is spark to my beats. When I give them my time, then i give myself more inspiration and go easy move forward
