- Are you going dancing? Every dancer should ensure they are on top of their personal grooming and care, and I am here to talk about four points that I think are particularly important.

I remember using the bathroom before a salsa class and seeing one of the teachers there brushing his teeth. Now my dance bag has a small washbag with a toothbrush and floss. It's nice to think I'm pleasant partner to dance with.

I often go to dance straight from work and on those occasions I always carry a toothbrush, a washcloth and a clean top. I’m lucky not to have issues with body odour, however, no one looks and smells fresh after a long day at work. I can forgive a one off smelly situation, things happen (especially in all day events), however, I don’t feel bad saying no to regular offenders. I go dancing to have a good time without expectation to keep running to the bathroom to scrub someone’s stinky sweat off my arms. And if any of that stink got into my hair and I have to smell that (and others) for the rest of the night, you’re blacklisted for life and I won’t hold back telling others who you are.

I notice the pictures and videos from beach and pool parties from salsa congresses in Spain, Croatia etc, and all the people seem to have no body hair whatsoever. Not even the men. Either they're genetically hairless or body waxers are making good money.

So I'm a leader and try to always cut my fingernails and brush my teeth and use mouthwash before dancing- sometimes bring it in my bag to socials (especially if I've been for a meal with dancing mates first and we go on to the class and/or social) and bring aftershave in my bag too.
I also shave under my arms as wear vests as get too hot and sweat buckets, some followers have commented being bemused but I told them that when they move under my armpit mid dance that they don't want to be going through a jungle like in a scene from Predator! 😂
Maybe I'm a massive tart haha but this is all out of respect for the followers 😊
Oh and I bring about 5 changes of shirts so that would be a good one to advise the leads to bring a change too so they stay fresh, it doesn't have to be 5 though! 😂
