The greatest threat to religion is always come from within especially when they use religion to justify their actions - Right or Wrong! It makes me wonder why the word “-phobia” is always synonymous with one particular religion but not with other religions. I don’t believe believers in these religions are “faultless or Perfect”. There have been many wars and conflicts started by its followers in the past, but the situation has changed for the better now. It’s also baffling to see why many immigrants from Middle Eastern and northern African countries (Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt, Algeria, etc), choose European and North America (with its Judea-Christian values). Why not choose rich Arab countries ? Even pious Malaysian choose London, Paris, and New York for their holidays and children's education.

The Council of Rulers should come up with a Decree to prohibit the use of Islam for political purposes and most importantly MUST HAVE A STANDARD INTERPRETATION AND PRACTICE OF ISLAM.

Unfortunately, such people have to base on their foundation & support on superficial issues (isu cetek). Well highlighted Mariam. Proud of your true human nature to seek the truth in humanity rights which surpasses everything else including religious-biasness. Knowing your clear understanding and the reasons why many non-Malays including some Malays have left Malaysia is somewhat comforting in that this view is also shared by someone like you. Seeing the decline in government administration on numerous aspects back in my time decades ago under the rule of Mahathir, when the affirmative action plan was full force in action resulting in many non-Malays declined admission to universities in Malaysia, many of us had left Malaysia just after high school to pursue our higher education, jobs and life elsewhere and I am glad that many of us are doing really well based on our own merits rather than being dependent on race-based policies to progress in life. It is sad to witness the new ministers in Malaysia these days cannot even hold a proper dialogue in competent English with their international counterparts without going around in circles - one can safely say this is a result of the failure of the Malaysian education system generating incompetent people from just a few decades ago. Without a reform in education system that focusses on merit, competency and one that does not mix with religion, it is not difficult to see this continued decline in the general life aspects of the new generations. With your tenacity and true human nature in not only dissecting the current issues but also highlighting it to reveal what is morally right from a human perspective (not religious) and seeking what needs to be done to improve the many aspects of Malaysians, I hope you will continue your effort to rebuild Malaysia.

one thing i’ve never understood is WHY Malays receive the benefits they do? As Mariam iterated, why cant Malaysia across all facets be based on a system of merit - where if you possess the required skill- set you get the appointed position or job or placement.
Why is there a % allocated to one race? Why are financial and business benefits allocated to one race?
Malaysia should be a society that celebrates its amazing multi races - like Britain or Australia etc. In these countries, anyone can get to any position - black white, Indian, Chinese - whatever! Obama would not have been President of USA if the American system was ‘Malaysia-like’ in its thinking. The current UK Prime Minister would also not been PM if UK was’Malaysia-like’. Penny Wong Australia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs is Chinese (Malaysian origins) - similar.
Their positions were earned through merit- they earned it.
Would love to see Malaysia scrap this Malay dominant thinking and have it replaced with a system where success is earned on merit.
A country where a person of any race can aspire to any position that they want to if they have the skills for it - yes even Prime Minister.
In the US, UK and Australia as examples we have countries with multi racial groups. There is no special ‘benefit’ poured down one race.
You want it, you earn it.
To be fair, back in the 50s the Malays were a poorer lot compared to the Chinese and some Indians. The sentiment then was they need to be protected especially because they're the slight majority of the nation and also the race of the monarch. Hence the constitution afforded them special rights. It was aimed to give them a chance to thrive and escape poverty. However, as we now learned, it has in fact become their biggest hurdle to do exactly that. Because the special rights and Malay sentiments have since became a political modal for Malay parties to jostle for support and power. Instead of giving them a boost, special rights became a subject of threat, of losing it which scares the Malays into continuous support for these parties. As long as the Malays continue to need the special rights, these parties remain relevant and survive. But the Malays have never fully benefited from it because they are still poor today. And they will be for the next 60 years because that's what these politicians need them to be to stay in power.

Thats is the heart if the problem. This hasnt and is still not happening. The race aspect should not have any any bearing on any aspect. Malaysia is multiracial. In Australia everyone is a migrant. Only Aboriginals are original inhabitants. But everyone in Australia irrespective of their parents or grandparents country of origin is ‘Australian’. They can still enjoy their Italian or Greek or whatever festivals but they have exactly the same rights as anyone.
That is the point i was making. Everyone treated the same. Race should not have any part in this!

Your views are indeed credible especially regarding ex PM Dr Mahathir who's using his Malay Agenda politicking to manipulate the Malay majority to his political advantages. Melayu Malas he claimed but his role in getting Special Privileges for them might well have contributed to them being content in awaiting more incentives rather than in improving themselves by a level playing field competition. I've nothing against their Special Rights unless it's denying eligible mandatory rights of non Malays in schemes such as Perkeso and JKM which one in my family has been consistently denied of.
Not only both of them could be the very dangerous duo, the UG seems too slow to act on them...
