    I really like the Ve'Nam comic. In this side story the US government tried using symbiotes behind enemy lines during the war effort. When they go AWOL, Nick Fury recruits Wolverine to go track them down.

    The perspective "we came here to save peoples lives and we are just making it worse" is the most normal and widespread experience men who went to Vietnam report. It's not liberal, its the experience of men who fought a war.

      I started watching WW1 movies over Xmas. War Horse, Passchendaele, The Journeys End & Whispering Times. On WW2 watched Saints and Soliders, Enemy at the Gates and Darkest Hour. Modern movies don't underplay War really sucks unlike the gung ho old black and whites of back in the day. Got a load of Nam films lined up next after WW2. Lest we forget and all that.

      @@PrivateCitizen84 Saints and Soldiers was really good, haven't seen it in a while. Sequels weren't worth much but that first one was great.

      @@PrivateCitizen84 Ha I just thought about them taking turns running and jumping across those bombed out buildings in Enemy at the Gates. It always cracks me up while driving home how many people had their lives effected by a friend who wasn't there the next day. I like to have fun, but I have no time for the glib opinions of people who sit at home and make dumb as shit political comments about the real experiences of others.
      The switch from WW2 classics to Nam classics is pretty sharp because of the auteur movement in film, the guys the right age to make WW2 movies were less style driven but I like the contrast. It makes the contrast in sentiment and structure of those time periods extremely different.
      I probably watch Full Metal Jacket once every year or two. Enjoy the time spent soaking it all up, time well spent I think.

    I really dug this miniseries. Ennis has done a few stories in this vein, with Punisher and Fury separately. While I don’t think this was the best of them, Fury MWGB & Platoon were my favorites, I still think this was very solid. Definitely do yourself a favor.

    Thanks for the review Zack! Looks great. The world just feels more right when Ennis is on a Punisher book. I'll definitely grab the trade because, yeah this book feels like a full one shot so that's how I'm bout to treat it.

    I really dig Garth Ennis writing grizzled Nick Fury. I liked this story, but his Nick Fury max series form 2012-2013, Fury Max My War Gone By, is outstanding. The Goran Parlov art tops Jacen Burrows, not that Burrows is bad, it is more a case where Parlov is just on another level.

    Garth Ennis hates superheroes, but he loves his war stuff. I'll hook my buddy up with this recommendation as well, he's on a Rogue Trooper binge.

    • @PrivateCitizen84
      @PrivateCitizen84 День назад +1

      I found Rogue Trooper formulaic. I prefered Bad Company Goodbye Krool World. Plus it has mad alien science. Bit of a horror story really. Kingdom and Durham Red pretty fatalistic future War stories. Shakara is next level one man army. Dredds got a few big Wars going for him. Apocalypse War & Judgement Day. They are off the scale for sure.

    • @bradleysmit1842
      @bradleysmit1842 День назад

      @PrivateCitizen84 Rogue Trooper definitely is formulaic, but my buddy's a big fan of it and I can't help but like the design of the Norts and the attention to detail with the sci-fi military kit. Apparently it has a movie adaptation, but it's in a sort of development limbo.

    I think Garth Ennis is a good writer, but I just kinda don't really dig his superhero stuff. I mean, The Boys was good as a show, but I liked the show WAY better than the comic.
    The one exception to my complaint though, is that I usually love Ennis' Punisher books. I just get bored with his "superheroes are dumb" style of hate-writing. But yeah, he tends to do right by Frank.

      Loved the dark comedy of The Boys comics. Butcher is the Punisher on V. Liked Ennis Punisher also. Never took to his Preacher all the edge and none of the fun of The Boy's, but his Wormwood was funny.

    Garth Ennis is one of my favorite writers & I didn't think Marvel would do this anymore. The woke mob hates anything with guns. That's why I like Todd MacFarlane's Spawn comics(even though MacFarlane is a very crappy writer) because it's not woke. MacFarlane like guns in his stories. I can't get into his DC toy line because DC refuses to let him put guns for characters who use them like Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Vigilante, Hush, & Sgt. Rock. They did let him put guns on his Jonah Hex figure even if they just his six-shooters. I was surprised they did that but having a cowboy character without his guns is blasphemy. I hated the Sgt. Rock figure because he didn't have any guns not even a pistol. He's a soldier & should've have machine gun or rifle. All he had was a stupid shovel & it pissed me off🤬!

    • @PrivateCitizen84

      You know you can buy mini model gun packs? Never let meanies put you off a fun thing imo. You can just buy the figures preowned. Reseller gets all the coin. A win, win.
