Silent Hill 2 is the best game ever made in my opinion and always will be, it truly is a masterpiece. No other game has resonated with me as much as this, the the story is profound and left me thinking for hours on end resulting in my multiple returns to Silent Hill over the years. The soundtrack is almost ethereal it takes me away my mind wonders when ever I hear it. Nothing will ever beat Silent Hill 2 if I was told I could only ever play one game for the rest of my life... this would be it.
How do you all interpret Silent Hill? I personally think that Silent Hill as a town is actually fine, no monsters, decay etc. hence this is what Laura sees and why she reacts in a puzzled manner when James talks about the town. The reason why the town seems so dated cars etc. Is because this is how James remembers it from when he visited, and that’s why everything seems so decayed and rusted as it’s been frozen in a way for many years, just a lingering memory in James mind, and due to his mental state he can’t recall the details exactly. The reason why I believe Silent Hill is all an illusion, is because there would be some kind of government intervention if it was real, all roads destroyed etc. This is why I’d rule out possibility’s of magic and occultism, and say it isn’t a physical manifestation. I just feel like James, Eddie, Angela are all suffering from severe forms of varying mental health disorders (bipolar, ptsd, paranoid schizophrenia, npd) and this is jading their perspectives on the boundaries of reality. The monsters could be related to the proverbial saying “fighting your demons”, hence why all monsters bear a relation and Resemblance to something manifested in James’s subconscious. That’s my two cents, I know it kind of takes the magic a way from the game. But in my opinion this interpretation is more frightening as it’s real. These are real traumas that are being dealt with by the characters. And to related back to my above post, I feel this is why the game is resonated with me, as I suffer from mental health issues myself. @@EbonyManta The reason i think that pyramid head was for James specifically was because we can't really tell how much of silent hill was real and how much was part of James' personal hell. It could maybe be possible that pyramid head existed in the town before, but like i said, we only see him in SH2, none of the other original 4 games have him in it. And the fact that he's in SH2 specifically is the trick here, because in SH2 it's made very clear that James is an unreliable narrator. WallStreetBlues 'Silent Hill' is a concrete metaphor for James' psychological struggle to come to terms with what he did. Pyramid Head is the guilt, which is why James couldn't 'kill' him until after he fully acknowledged and accepted what he did. Maria represents the woman James had an affair with in real life while his wife, Mary, was dying; she looks like Mary because he wished Mary could have been her. Eddie is a manifestation of James' frustration - the thing you get when you mix anxiety, fear, and anger. Laura represents the fleeing genuine innocence that James wished he had; this innocence is why she never saw the monsters that haunted James. Each character represents a part of James' psychological introspective journey into his own mind. Silent Hill is a real place that he once had been before, but the Silent Hill you see when you play the game is just in James' head.
Love this interpretation as I am a sufferer of schizo affective disorder an these games along with resident evil have helped me a lot through the years and gave me a real brain exercise
Yeah, I think Silent Hill is kind of like Purgatory and James, Angela and Eddie are suffering for their sins. All three of them see the town differently. Angela sees everything covered in flames and with sexual imagery, Eddie sees people mocking him and dead bodies, and James sees what we see. Laura doesn't see any monsters because she is pure. All four of them were drawn to the town, though. So that could mean that it is a physical place in the world but that it manifests itself differently for different people. You should search for it in the wikis, though. People put all sorts of information there, including sources like Book of Lost Memories. There's probably very interesting things written there about this topic.

Silent Hill is wonderful, its soundtrack is perfect, each part of it, it is not worth highlighting, that no matter what situation you are in, it surrounds you in the environment, it is incredible how it got to that point.
"I can Imagine that right now your feeling like Alice Tumbling down the rabbit hole." it's quite fascinating isn't it? when I first started playing Silent Hill two I had no idea what to expect. seeing James leap down the hole in the historical Society had me wonder why he would do that. perhaps he felt the need to fond out what was at the bottom. the maze hallway will have you wondering if the person that built the place was put of his friggin mind or something. and in the dark room after picking up the big knife. The fan is overhead almost as if it was a hint of another clue. The mysteries continue and questions keep entering the mind.
To me I think of a dark sea cave and there’s like drums of some sort, echoing through the cave, but that’s all there is. I think this song is very lonely sounding 😔
If anyone was wondering- Pyramid Head is James's incarnation for his desire for punishment. The pyramid on his head is noticably uncomfortable, and the huge sword is incredibly hard to lug around.- Just for the people that didn't know :)
Truly one of the top three best themes, not technicall a song, but still...its melodic and works to inspire that foggy wandering, adventuring through dangerous paths and mysterious pursuits. And all that jazz lol
Same for me, it may be cause it’s not necessarily peaceful if that makes sense? Edit like 20 seconds later: It’s lonely sounding and the drum sound is like when your head spikes in discomfort.

Feel like I'm in an old outdated looking mall with yellow carpets white lights flickering on the the empty walls of what once was a place visited by hundreds. now left in small shambles. As I wander around the strangely familiar place as this atmospheric tune plays from the crackling speakers on the ceiling.I See a distant clock on a wall quietly tik away. displaying the time 2am while the calming and yet off putting song echoes down empty corridors and desolate abandoned shops unable to understand why or how I'm here. but attempting to make sense but to no avail trapped in this strange place wandering forever.
Eddie was staring down the barrel of a forty five. I am asking for the return of Silent Hill games remastered for X Box One game consoles. and guide books too because I'm free....free falling oh yeah. I'm free I'm free falling now I'm free falling.
This reminds me of that one time I dropped acid. Turns out I DID have a bipolar disorder. But that's all gone now. But so is everyone I used to know too. Hmmm..

The mysteries continue and questions keep entering the mind.
this is like.... like... i don't know, like an indifferent world, a world full of fog... empty
To me I think of a dark sea cave and there’s like drums of some sort, echoing through the cave, but that’s all there is.
I think this song is very lonely sounding 😔
In a Cadillac with the bass bumpin jammin this classic. Gotta love it.
most beautiful game track I've ever heard. tied with Skyrim and WD2 for its soundtrack
Silent hill alone is the reason why I want to study psychology.
If anyone was wondering- Pyramid Head is James's incarnation for his desire for punishment. The pyramid on his head is noticably uncomfortable, and the huge sword is incredibly hard to lug around.- Just for the people that didn't know :)
escape your physical form along side this tune
Makes me think about all the anxiety, agitation, and depression that comes with the world we live in. 😬🤬😞🌏
Truly one of the top three best themes, not technicall a song, but still...its melodic and works to inspire that foggy wandering, adventuring through dangerous paths and mysterious pursuits. And all that jazz lol
This puts me the state of mind you know what I mean.its that nature of mine .
The nature of you .
Masterpiece, music for living in the present
I love it!
I Love that song
FOUND IT FINALLY!!!
This sounds like I stepped out of my house at 2 AM after a rainstorm and started having an existential crisis.
Beautifully haunting
Never even played this but i want to play the silent hill games one day
BUT THEN WHY IS THIS NOSTALGIC
wavy...............
Welcome to Silent Hill.
I’ve never played silent hill before but this makes me think of a damp sea cave with something that’s sounds like a echoing drum
It reminds me Yume Nikki....
I wish I lived in a foggy place...
Same, but it’d probably get annoying after a while.
Well, the Pyramid Head from this Silent Hill is meant for punishing James.
FUKING AWESOME!!!
Everything just broke...
bro this song goes hard when you're depressed 🔥🔥🔥
All the time
One of the most DXM/ketamine/PCP feeling songs on the planet. Truly captures that otherworldly aura.
Hmmm.. Interesting. That is an excellent theory.
*Pra um jogo como Silent Hill, essa música é bem relaxante*
Idk why, but this song reminds me of a roaring headache. I don't hate it, it just does for some reason.
Same for me, it may be cause it’s not necessarily peaceful if that makes sense?
Edit like 20 seconds later: It’s lonely sounding and the drum sound is like when your head spikes in discomfort.
Why aren't such masterpieces created today? Are people so stupid and unwilling to create something intelligent, only shit like Uncharted, Horizon, Tomb raider, Wolfenstein, Outlast, Assasin shit 1,000,000, Far cry, Until Dawn,
It hurts to say it but they only do it for the money, there may be some people who care for the franchise still but money is priority
this gives me asmr
aw hell nah spunch bob [was forces to reconcile with his selfish acts and battle through a personification of his own trauma.]
This song sums up how I feel about living in Victoria BC, Canada. This city truly is a World of madness.
Who's here because of Kdot and kodak?
What genre could this specific track be described as?
I like the atmospheric yet mysterious feeling it gives and I want to hear more.
Please, do not say "soundtrack" or "anything from Akira Yamaoka", because that doesn't answer my question.
Thank you for reading.
Dark ambient
+BrokenMoonStudios I think atmospheric is a good way to describe it... you might also try ambient soundscapes.
This sounds like a song that would play at a character creation screen.
Great song.
I woke up sleeping in my car while I was covid positive at 2 in the morning 49 degrees. This song came on from the horror game playlist
Isn't it his desire or want to be judged?
As Pyramid Head is acting as his judge, since he lacks the ability to judge himself.
I finally found it.
@Kavir kinda forgot I wrote this lol but yeah that's exactly what I was trying to convey I guess
Eddie was staring down the barrel of a forty five. I am asking for the return of Silent Hill games remastered for X Box One game consoles. and guide books too because I'm free....free falling oh yeah. I'm free I'm free falling now I'm free falling.
If u put it to 0.25 You'll here like some sort of screaming or something I cant make it out
Hearing this makes me feel like i live in Seattle
Strange music... It makes you feel weird and spooked-out...
It also gives you a headache if you listen to it too much...
@@verygoofy2161 I agree.
This reminds me of that one time I dropped acid. Turns out I DID have a bipolar disorder. But that's all gone now. But so is everyone I used to know too. Hmmm..
Also after reading this comment section I couldn't help but wonder where the hell the normal people in this world are. Aren't there any out there? What in blazes?!
@@natopomato93 How do you mean by normal, i mean i feeel normal
@@aurorab4553 I mean you just don't run into silent Hill fans on the daily. You just don't.
Renato Ibarra I’ve never played silent hill before, I just found it from some background music in some video and now I like it.
@@verygoofy2161 you should play it bro its based on a true story
Reminds me of Twin Peaks
In fact Yamaoka was inspired by Lynch and Badalamenti.
Twin Peaks is my favourite tv series and I love SH despite playing and finishing only SH2.
This sounds like a distortion of water dripping
I think the same.
I get scared of the dark every time I listen to this song
2019
No idea, I haven't won the game in such a long time that I've completely forgotten.
He desires punishment because he murdered his wife.
This reminds me of Jreaks a roblox myth
This makes me scared of the dark
Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaames Sunderland
But be careful.
If you're wrong... hahahhahahahaha !
