    Silent Hill 2 is the best game ever made in my opinion and always will be, it truly is a masterpiece. No other game has resonated with me as much as this, the the story is profound and left me thinking for hours on end resulting in my multiple returns to Silent Hill over the years. The soundtrack is almost ethereal it takes me away my mind wonders when ever I hear it. Nothing will ever beat Silent Hill 2 if I was told I could only ever play one game for the rest of my life... this would be it.

      How do you all interpret Silent Hill? I personally think that Silent Hill as a town is actually fine, no monsters, decay etc. hence this is what Laura sees and why she reacts in a puzzled manner when James talks about the town.
      The reason why the town seems so dated cars etc. Is because this is how James remembers it from when he visited, and that’s why everything seems so decayed and rusted as it’s been frozen in a way for many years, just a lingering memory in James mind, and due to his mental state he can’t recall the details exactly.
      The reason why I believe Silent Hill is all an illusion, is because there would be some kind of government intervention if it was real, all roads destroyed etc. This is why I’d rule out possibility’s of magic and occultism, and say it isn’t a physical manifestation. I just feel like James, Eddie, Angela are all suffering from severe forms of varying mental health disorders (bipolar, ptsd, paranoid schizophrenia, npd) and this is jading their perspectives on the boundaries of reality. The monsters could be related to the proverbial saying “fighting your demons”, hence why all monsters bear a relation and Resemblance to something manifested in James’s subconscious.
      That’s my two cents, I know it kind of takes the magic a way from the game. But in my opinion this interpretation is more frightening as it’s real. These are real traumas that are being dealt with by the characters. And to related back to my above post, I feel this is why the game is resonated with me, as I suffer from mental health issues myself. So I know what it’s like to not be able to think clearly and to have a warped perspective.

      @hostile blueberry Except for the fact that McDonalds seems to be removing Ronald from their brand image, at least here in the west. Although, Ronald still appears in foreign McDonalds buildings, from what i can tell.
      But anyways, Pyramid Head may be Iconic to the series, but it's important to remember that Pyramid Head had a very specific purpose behind him. Transplanting him into another game without also transplanting the reason for him to be there (Punishing James in SH2) would just be lazy.
      And it's not enough to retroactively change the reason for him to be there, like saying "Pyramid Head's always been there, he wasn't just for James" would be disingenuous, out of the original four, Pyramid Head only appears in SH2, so it's clear that Pyramid Head was specifically for James.

    • @EbonyManta
      @EbonyManta 4 года назад +9

      @@blubercharge19 On the one hand, while PH was James' tormentor, he was also based off of an actual part of the town's history, so it's not like James has a monopoly on him or that the town couldn't reuse that "asset" elsewhere. On the other hand, you're correct in that the _reason_ PH was in SH2 was very specific, and he would have to have a very good reason to appear in other games.
      The only reason he was in the movie and Homecoming was just to capitalize on his "iconicness" so they don't qualify. He _could_ have been re-used well, he just wasn't.
      To be honest though, if I were designing an SH game, I wouldn't have bothered to re-use him. I don't care for him that much, and everything about him either only makes sense with James (brutalizing other monsters) or could easily be done with a different monster design (his sense of oppression and unstoppability).

    • @blubercharge19
      @blubercharge19 4 года назад +6

      @@EbonyManta The reason i think that pyramid head was for James specifically was because we can't really tell how much of silent hill was real and how much was part of James' personal hell.
      It could maybe be possible that pyramid head existed in the town before, but like i said, we only see him in SH2, none of the other original 4 games have him in it.
      And the fact that he's in SH2 specifically is the trick here, because in SH2 it's made very clear that James is an unreliable narrator. Not only is he leaving out (or forgetting) certain important details, like what happened to his wife, but it's also made clear that what he's seeing might not even be real, and since James is the protagonist, his eyes are our eyes, and what we see is what he sees, so our vision is unreliable, too.
      So it's a bit fuzzy whether Pyramid Head is real or not, but personally i like to imagine he's fake.

      WallStreetBlues 'Silent Hill' is a concrete metaphor for James' psychological struggle to come to terms with what he did. Pyramid Head is the guilt, which is why James couldn't 'kill' him until after he fully acknowledged and accepted what he did. Maria represents the woman James had an affair with in real life while his wife, Mary, was dying; she looks like Mary because he wished Mary could have been her. Eddie is a manifestation of James' frustration - the thing you get when you mix anxiety, fear, and anger. Laura represents the fleeing genuine innocence that James wished he had; this innocence is why she never saw the monsters that haunted James.
      Each character represents a part of James' psychological introspective journey into his own mind. Silent Hill is a real place that he once had been before, but the Silent Hill you see when you play the game is just in James' head.

      Yeah, I think Silent Hill is kind of like Purgatory and James, Angela and Eddie are suffering for their sins. All three of them see the town differently. Angela sees everything covered in flames and with sexual imagery, Eddie sees people mocking him and dead bodies, and James sees what we see. Laura doesn't see any monsters because she is pure.
      All four of them were drawn to the town, though. So that could mean that it is a physical place in the world but that it manifests itself differently for different people. You should search for it in the wikis, though. People put all sorts of information there, including sources like Book of Lost Memories. There's probably very interesting things written there about this topic.

      You're completely wrong - Silent Hill is nothing but MAGICK and occultism.
      Everything we have been told about our Universe is a lie ;
      The imagination is more real than our physical world because everything has to first exist mentally before it can exist in our physical world which is just like a stage. The brain is just a cloak for our non physical mind which is attached to our soul. The Astral Plane is the subconscious mind ( the right side of brain which is 99% more powerful than the left conscious rational side ) and constitutes the overlapping area of the imagination, thoughts, intuition, dreams, feelings etc.
      Every time we dream or imagine we are travelling into a real world ( attached to our physical body by the umbilical cord of our soul ) where demons also live. The Astral plane is interlinked to planets, which are self illuminating lights of plasma, the homes of demons, which travel through 1 of 4 main elements ; air/fire/earth/water ( the periodic table of elements are just the 4 REAL Elements derivatives ) and manifest behind the static rain of our vision into our physical world.
      Google is satan, the demons can access proxy. They have always been there, right in front of us, but we never noticed ; obama, donald trump, melanie and ivanka trump, the queen, david cameron, boris johnson, vladimir putin, hilary clinton, angelina jolie, miley cirus, jim carey, banking elitist: evelyn rothschilds - who has funded both sides of every war since napolean, the old lady at the store who cursed you out, mark zuckerbeg are all real living breathing demons made of plasma, as they can take on any form as inter-dimensional shape shifting entities and they are living on earth permanently having been summoned by their human magicians, just like in Babylon and ancient Egypt where Magic all began and so too then did the Djinn walk and rule among mankind. So many demons appearing as orbs which later turn into fake planes and helicopters etc. in our sky at the moment ( so few people investigate with their binoculars ) , often leaving trails which later turn into peculiar cloud formations in order to block out our Light. There is no such thing as oxygen, God, Light, Soul and the Sun are 1 and the same, the Sun is the dispenser of Light and it is in the Air that we breath, hence the fifth Element...Spirit. During Armageddon they will show their demonic form as Dragons etc. breathing fire and causing mass destruction just as in ancient times. Candles, incense, crystals, seals etc. are the highest technology and electronics etc. are their products. 'Aliens from other planets' is a Hollywood invention but the 'Alien or rather demonic invasion' is so very real.

This really helps immerse me in my story and get a proper vibe from it, especially during the scenes (well not scenes but you get it) where the investigator explores the lonely, snowy and misty small town without the ghost appearing

The fan is overhead almost as if it was a hint of another clue. The mysteries continue and questions keep entering the mind.

      +BrokenMoonStudios I think atmospheric is a good way to describe it... you might also try ambient soundscapes.

    Isn't it his desire or want to be judged?
    As Pyramid Head is acting as his judge, since he lacks the ability to judge himself.

    Why aren't such masterpieces created today? Are people so stupid and unwilling to create something intelligent, only shit like Uncharted, Horizon, Tomb raider, Wolfenstein, Outlast, Assasin shit 1,000,000, Far cry, Until Dawn,

      Same for me, it may be cause it’s not necessarily peaceful if that makes sense?
      Edit like 20 seconds later: It’s lonely sounding and the drum sound is like when your head spikes in discomfort.

    Feel like I'm in an old outdated looking mall with yellow carpets white lights flickering on the the empty walls of what once was a place visited by hundreds. now left in small shambles. As I wander around the strangely familiar place as this atmospheric tune plays from the crackling speakers on the ceiling.I See a distant clock on a wall quietly tik away. displaying the time 2am while the calming and yet off putting song echoes down empty corridors and desolate abandoned shops unable to understand why or how I'm here. but attempting to make sense but to no avail trapped in this strange place wandering forever.

    I also hate how they changed his helmet in the games and movies (one of many things I hate about the movies and later games). They made it a lot taller and pointier. Also, in the movie, Pyramid head looks like a funcking giant! XD
