Ant queens develop wings. They fly, mate with some males, and then land. The next thing they do is to bite away their precious wings, because they don't need them anymore, and wings are a nuisance for an animal that lives underground. Worker ants never develop wings because they don't mate.

@HazelEpicFunny Yes, you are misinterpreting what I'm saying.
I'm not talking about racism, transphobia, etc. I'm talking about political arguments broadly. Situations where two people holding legitimate (but opposing) positions assume the other is evil and out to get them, or else acting in bad faith.
Take student loan forgiveness, for example.
Plenty of people want student loans forgiven and think that opposition to that plan represents anti-intellectual sentiments, or just a generalized "fuck you" to people with degrees, or some other hateful reason. Plenty of people that oppose the plan think that those who want forgiveness are lazy, entitled, etc. and want everyone else to pick up the tab.
The truth lies somewhere in between. Some people who want forgiveness are lazy and entitled, and some people who oppose forgiveness are anti-education (maybe they think it's brainwashing) but there's a huge portion of the population that doesn't fall into either of those camps.
I stand to directly benefit from student loan forgiveness but I still oppose it for reasons I won't go deep into here (TL;DR it treats the symptom instead of the disease). That doesn't mean I'm evil and it doesn't mean I think people who want forgiveness are stupid or lazy.
As with most topics, there are multiple positions you can hold that are legitimate and don't require any malice or actions taken in bad faith.

One of the biggest hurdles for some people understanding evolution is to grapple with long time scales.
The North American continent broke off from Europe 175 million years ago and began moving west at the rate of about 1.5 inches per year (~0.0000000027 MPH), about the speed at which your fingernails grow. Don't think it's possible to travel 3,459 miles in 175 million years moving only 1.5 inches per year? Do the math: (3,459 * 5280 * 12) / 1.5 = 146,108,106 years (give or take due to the speed not being consistent in every part of the continent). Now contemplate 3 billion years of evolution, which is 17 times the length of time it took for North America to reach it's present location, and you get an idea of the scale.
Now, imagine how many individual organisms lived and died in those 3 billion years, each one a tiny survival/reproduction experiment with a slighty different mixture of traits from its parents and the truth of evolution becomes abudantly clear. This is exactly why some theists insist on a young Earth. They can't win on the facts so they obfuscate.

There are also a few species of penguin here that traded flight through air for flight through water.
