The Irish food at New York New York may (or may not) be authentic, but what about the Italian food at the Venetian Las Vegas? Check out my review of the pizza at the Grand Canal Shoppes! ruclips.net/video/0VoU3CZtPec/видео.html
Loved this.... Could you show us how Eaterly is now with Covid and social distancing? We plan on visiting in September (Family group of 7) and videos show -pre-covid- how crowded and difficult it was to find a table.... Watching, subscribed and taking notes on EVERY SINGLE new video you are doing! Thank you so much, especially in this difficult time for all of us to understand.
I was raised in Scotland and Ireland from a mum born in Scotland and nana born in Ireland so I have had Irish food my whole life and the beer battered is not authentic Irish food at all. Now regular fish and chips have become a popular dish in Ireland. But honestly nothing you ordered is what traditional Irish food looks like. I have eaten at nine five Irish men before and nothing tastes authentic I was disappointed but I’m never disappointed in your videos. You are a wonderful RUclipsr always a joy to watch.
Typical UK pub food. Last time I had pub food it was sausage and mash with onion gravy. The pie is something my mum would cook, just put the mash potato on top and stick in the oven. When it comes to fish and chips, I have about five local, one being literally a five minute walk.
Yeah its bad when restaurants say shepherds pie and then they skimp and cheat and use beef. Sheep means lamb and if they use beef they should call it Cowherders Pie. And lamb does not even cost that much more then beef.
I think the reason the batter on fish wasn't crispy was all the vinegar and lemon juice you drizzled on, it certainly looked crispy before ,,, also I think the typical Irish meal would have been the lamb stew , coming from UK and been to Ireland I would recommend that 😊
@Checkmate of course we do in UK and that looked amazing fish , but bless him he didn't realise too much vinigar ( it was swimming in it) ruins a lovely taste of the fish ,,, the ivy do a good quality fish in batter
Shepherd's pie is meant to be ground lamb hence shepherd. Cottage Pie is made with ground beef. How authentic can they be if they don't know the difference?
It seems that most English based food to me. Traditional Irish foods are Sosa bread,Shellfish, Irish stew, Colcannon and Champ,Boxty, boiled bacon and cabbage, black and white pudding,Coddle,Bramback...these are the most traditional of Irish foods. This place seems more on English traditional.
Not value for $$$ overpriced. I love Sherperds Pie but yours was beef that's not Sherperds Pie it's traditionally made with lamb! This restaurant needs to get it's A game on & become more mindful of its brand association. Every thing looked great we get great Bangers & mash in New Zealand as our meat is exported all over the world highly reputable great quality. It's more English food you ate than Irish. Malt vinegar used on chips. Lemon juice on fish as you squeezed it all over you lost crispy! Break a piece of fish squeeze lemon than consume it is best. Your lovely lady is looking amazing she speaks well with conviction & open mind so amazing commentary. I wish she would allow her gorgeous face to shine a couple of times as she's just like you a foodie. But we respect her privacy as you Derek are the show stopper 🤣 But overall all dishes I would try for sure even though their more comfort foods made in colder months so can be heavy for summer months👍awesome presentation Bangers missing side dish some green peas 🤔showing us the bill is great too so we can see costings👍keep living your dreams dining out with you is mouthwatering fun 😊❤❤❤

Hi from your friends in Ireland. I have to say the menu is more on the UK side of things. Shepherd's Pie is made from ground lamb, if it's made from beef it's called Cottage Pie. A great Irish dish would be Irish stew or Guinness beef stew. Dublin Bay Prawns are fantastic 👍we have some of the best seafood in the world, from oysters to seabass, mackerel, lobster, crab. I was in Vegas in 2018 and had a blast 😀 congratulations on getting engaged. I wish the both of you the best of happy times 👍
@@LordMelbury1953 Hi Kevin. I made a video on making Guinness Beef Stew a few years back it's on RUclips , it's the only one I put up , but it's a great recipe . Give it a try making it and you won't be disappointed. ☺👍
The food looked amazing. I've had the Shepherd's pie, but will have to try the others. Glad you realized your mistake with the vinegar. Hope it didn't spoil the fish. Thanks for the video!
The Fish and Chips look amazing. Good thing the condiments were handy. The Sausage and mashed potatoes looked delicious. Derrick, you saved what I feel was the best for last. That being the Irish Stew. I liked the ingredients added, melted cheese, meat, and mashed potatoes. No wonder it’s a favorite among the Irish. Derrick, if I can recall correctly in a previous episode, you introduced your lady guest as your fiancé. I think you made a wise choice by including her on your shows. She adds a woman’s perspective to dining and I think she’s awesome. Thanks for sharing your wonderful video as always.
I don't know much about Irish food, but what you got was definitely traditional English comfort food. Fish and chips is practically the national dish of England. And low spice levels are also typical. (Except the last few decades, when Indian curries have become so popular!)
Your selection of non buffet eateries is outstanding. Showing us all the variety available in LV is killing me. Can't wait until November. Thanks for all you do ! STAY SAFE.
I've been to NFI once and had their fish and chips. I totally agree with your comments and found it a little underwhelming. Perhaps they should change their name to Nine OK Irishmen
I live in Plymouth UK, I can say you're eatting traditional uk and Ireland pub food. I wouldn't say it's entirely Irish food. I'll argue the fact that fish and chips is British and not Irish.
Hi there, just watched this episode. Im from Northern Ireland. All of these meals would be classed as traditional Irish although our shepherds / cottage pie (depending on the meat used) would definitely have lots of flavour. These are meals I would make regularly at home for weeknight meals. Love your site, hubby and I watch regular as we love Vegas and can't wait to come back
Looked very disappointing and average. No snap to the sausage, non-crispy fish batter, and plain mashed potatoes with ground beef. Not to mention $20 each for two sausages and two pieces of fish? Sorry you had to go through that but that thank you for the video and letting us know where not to go! 👍
The only time I ever had shepherd’s pie was as a high school cafeteria food. BTW, the mist around in the vackground is water vapors for outdoor cooling which works only in dry climates and not humid cities on the east coast.
The bangers and mash here in Ireland would have onions in the gravy no mushrooms. The Shepard's pie looked a little dryer than ours would be but it looked good. The most traditional irish dish you could have gotten would have been the Stew. But yes we eat those dishes regularly here in Ireland. Good video.
My family is Irish and I’m English, and this is def more English food. I enjoy the food at NFI but it’s not proper Irish food. Cottage pie is made with beef, shepherds pie is made with minced lamb. Vinegar or lemon for the fish but generally not both, but that batter looked waaay too soggy. You need to get over to the northern England for the best fish & chips. You need salt and vinegar of the chips. The onion gravy looked pretty good, I really don’t like gravy in the US. That cottage pie looked like the meat needed more gravy in it. The meat looked bland.
I'm half English and half Irish and I always put vinegar on my fish. Fish and chips is more English but you needed to try the colcannon too with a pint of Guinness x
I'm from the UK, shepherd's pie is also a staple here, and that looked fantastic, I will 100% be thinking about trying it next time I'm there. (mixing it with tomato sauce enhances it so much). In England when we order fish and chips we usually get the salt and vinegar splashed all over the fish as well as the chips. That gravy on the sausage and mash looked thick and so good!
We've been to Ireland many times, my wife is British, she's a Fish & Chips demanding customer, she said it looked about right, she likes a thinner batter, so its most crispy. With the Sheppard's pie you need lots of gravy.
You're getting there Derrick! Almost a full unveiling of your fiance's face. She's a great addition, knows food, makes Germain comments, gives a real sense of food quality, taste, etc. Share the show 100%. It'll make all the difference....
Thanks for the review ... it can now remain low on my list of places to try. I'm liking the buffets being closed because you are expanding our horizons.
Malt vinegar is traditional on fish and ships from Ireland. Although those pieces were way overcooked you can see the coating was burnt. Shepherd's pie look absolutely delicious. But I'm with you I think that number one dish was the bangers and mash that looked absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious with that gravy yum. Only thing that was missing was a pint of Guinness.
Another great video Derek! I used to enjoy getting fish and chips at Fulton’s Fish Fry across from Greenberg’s Deli. It was fun to eat at a table on the faux NYNY street as the roller coaster rumbled above. Aloha! 🌺
This is making me so hungry, I'm salivating watching this. I always thought the 3 dishes as British, not Irish, but definitely want to try. Thank you Derek and your fiancee.
We love it there. Irish food in general is very mild. Which I love. But the vinegar goes on the fish. Its either the vinegar or lemon. The fried fish needs acid to cut through the oil. Enjoy. We definitely going back there.
As a quick follow up, you can get a portion of fish and chips twice as large at the Grand Lux in the Venetian & Palazzo (one location in each) for $19 and it is GOOD. Grand Lux is my go to when I’m in LV for work every year. I’ve eaten there more times than anywhere else in Vegas combined. Except maybe White Castle..... lmao
The malt vinegar is used on the fish also. I prefer it on the fish myself. Looks great and we’ll have to go and try it . Love your reviews and glad your back.
Anytime I see "Irish Pub" my first thought is fish and chips and bangers. Just seems like they're always good. We've got some good ones here. One tip for eating fish and chips with malt vinegar, don't drown the whole filet in vinegar. It gets soggy. Put a little splash on the bite you're going to take, and that's it. Repeat with each bite. Then it stays crispy.
vinegar doesn't make crispy batter soft. Not a proper batter. That was not anywhere close to being a proper fish shop crispy batter. However I agree the tarture sauce works better on the fish.
Brother in law is from the UK and this all sounds like food he's made for us. Of course he will use beef because the family doesn't like or won't eat lamb. Anyway, I have to say that you make our day. We watch all your videos and love them all. Also, it's good you now have your fiance because now you have 2 people reviews. Thanks for all your videos. They are so fun in this not fun time. Bad thing, we're waiting a bit to go to Vegas. Oh, and we already know how expensive Vegas is. If you forget the food this sounds like a fun place to hang. Great job!!
That's British (mostly English) food. It should be seasoned well but you should only use a little vineger on your food, the Shepard pie should have a thick gravy that holds the meat together. But it is generally the comfort food we have. P.S. your portion sizes are huge, it would be better to have half the size and half the cost.
NIne Fine Irishmen is hands down my favorite restaurant in Vegas. The prices are very reasonable for an on-strip restaurant and the quality is top notch. You should try the chicken pot pie. It is the best I have ever had anywhere!!! They also make the best bloody marry in Vegas.
Ri Ra Irish Pub in Mandalay Bay is by far mine and my wife’s favorite place in Vegas. We went to Nine Fine Irishmen before and Ri Ra is still far better. Not sure if you have a video on that. Nightly love music as well. Great scotch eggs.
I've been to Dublin and Belfast a couple of times. Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips, and Shepard's pie really are traditional Irish fair. The problem is in attempting to find the right place. Good point that soaking your fish in malt vinegar and lemon really takes away from the crispiness, The other thing is trying to find a Bangers and mash that has a skin that pops. In truth, throughout most all of Ireland and England the most popular and authentic food is Indian food. It's been that way for a hundred years.
We ate there and it was mind-blowing I loved the carrots. I also got fish and chip's and the hubby had the Shepherd pie.I eat my fish and chips with malt vinegar is the best way to go. Our was made with lamb. I am 100% Irish.
I'm almost certain I'm part Irish, love to pull an irish goodbye that's for sure but Jesus Mary & Joseph, that Shepherd's Pie looks amazing! Gonna go there next week probably now. Good looking out!
Finally a worthy ketchup packet!!! But oh how I miss communal malt vinegar shakers. That “Pail” of shepherd’s pie!!!! Haha! I am so getting a kettle like that for making shepherdS pie at home!!

Not really Irish food, the lamb stew would have been a better choice. No corned beef or smoked shoulder with cabbage, potatoes, & carrots

When ground beef is used it is "cottage pie"; when lamb meat is used it is "shepherds pie".
You beat me to that comment.
Ditto as soon as I saw the Shepherds Pie I was like here we go lol 😂
I was thinking hmmm is that really Shepard’s pie lol mince beef is cottage pie.
Yeah its bad when restaurants say shepherds pie and then they skimp and cheat and use beef. Sheep means lamb and if they use beef they should call it Cowherders Pie. And lamb does not even cost that much more then beef.

Shepherd's pie is made with lamb. Cottage pie is made with beef. Hope you both enjoyed it regardless. 🇬🇧✌️
That is correct
Everytime Shepherd's pie has ground beef Gordon Ramsay gets a new insult.
That's okay, as a restaurant manager in the US explained, as their customers didn't know any better. So that must be traditional in the US.

As a Brit I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that portion of fish and chips for $25.
Welcome to the Las Vegas strip
Its vegas prices 100% cant beat a good pub fish and chips, fish the size pf your head for less than a tener
My exact thoughts
Overpriced 😂😂
This is Vegas prices.
Last year I had amazing fish and chips in Uk for under 10 dollars .. I will pass on this overpriced mess!!
Where's the Champ, Colcannon, Soda Bread, Potato Bread. Boxty, Coddle, Bacon and Cabbage and the good old Irish Stew.
Maybe watered down for American tastes???? Bummer though...
Served with a side order of Pepto.
Luv colcannon

Also don’t cover the fish in to much vinegar, it’ll make the fish really soggy !
I like lemon juice and tartar with my fish and vinegar and ketchup for my fries.

The fish was soggy because she poured a whole sachet of vinegar on it. The vinegar was for the chips and the lemon for the fish. 😊
Fish and chips is English, not Irish. They do put malt vinegar on both fish and chips. Traditional fish and chips isn't served with lemon.

I've been here, and the food is pretty decent. New York, New York is a pretty good food destination on the strip and relatively reasonable.
It's definitely a bad dream to see Vegas like this
Ketchup with shepherd’s pie is a must!!
Your fish wasn't crispy because you poured vinegar all over it.
lol that's what I was thinking!
How do you know that for sure girl?
it didn't look crispy when he cut into it
vinegar doesn't make crispy batter soft. Not a proper batter. That was not anywhere close to being a proper fish shop crispy batter. However I agree the tarture sauce works better on the fish.
the food looked better than i expected. thanks derek.
I am Irish and this is definitely traditional food. Yummy yummy 😋 😍
Great job!!
Thanks for sharing! I wish I had 3 videos to catch up on:)
I was there last week... that place is so good .. plus the atmosphere was amazing
Nice to see you again. The shepards pie looked awesome. I want some. Lol
I like NFI but please do Gordon Ramsey’s pub in Caesars. My personal favorite for fish and chips and Shepard’s pie!
Hi I’m from the UK I’m half Irish and my grandma used to make all those yummy dishes ! Theyr Irish sausage too so they are soft & delicious!
man, they had really good pork chops! I miss that so much, wish they would bring it back
That's British (mostly English) food.
We go to NFI every time we visit Vegas. Their bread pudding is the best.
Well your last comment is completely wrong Indian would be more traditional in guess where …… India
We ate there and it was mind-blowing I loved the carrots. I also got fish and chip's and the hubby had the Shepherd pie.I eat my fish and chips with malt vinegar is the best way to go. Our was made with lamb. I am 100% Irish.
The UK traditional foods are not spicy. The malt vinegar is used for both the fish and chips, not just the chips. The bangers and mash look amazing!
I'm almost certain I'm part Irish, love to pull an irish goodbye that's for sure but Jesus Mary & Joseph, that Shepherd's Pie looks amazing! Gonna go there next week probably now. Good looking out!
Shepherd’s pie traditionally is made with ground lamb, Cottage pie is made with ground beef.
Finally a worthy ketchup packet!!! But oh how I miss communal malt vinegar shakers. That “Pail” of shepherd’s pie!!!! Haha! I am so getting a kettle like that for making shepherdS pie at home!!
The bangers and mash look pretty good
My favorite pub in Vegas!!!
