I use my iPad every day, but not for photo or video editing. I use mine as a sketchbook using Procreate and for taking notes in Nebo. I also use it every night to watch tv or movies in bed, since I don't have a tv in my bedroom.

With the magic keyboard, my iPad Pro has turned into a totally different device. It is now my primary device for everything not work-related (I use my office laptop for that). With an Office 365 subscription, it’s an absolute productivity machine. I use it to respond to emails, edit word files, update my calendar, respond to text messages, etc. There is no need to use my iPhone when I am using my iPad - almost all iPhone apps have their equivalent iPad apps. I use it as a media consumption device for listening to news online, watching Netflix and RUclips, etc. I even use it to edit videos when I vlog. It’s my laptop, iPhone, Apple TV, all rolled into one device.

I bought an iPad in spring 2020 because of the pandemic and lifestyle changes. I expected to use it 40% of the time and my Mac take up the other 60% of my time. I just sold my Mac because I find that many tasks that I need to do are more easily done and are more fun on the iPad. The iPad, Magic Keyboard, and Apple Pencil 2 make the perfect productive combination for my work and personal needs.

I bought the ipad 2020 12.9 inch version a few weeks after it came out, and ever since then I have bought all sort of cases keyboards, and even both. I really like the fact that it is so versatile, with the pen, it had allowed me to complete every single assignment with utter ease. It is a very super futuristic experience that I have with my tablet. My phone broke and I was still able to contact my course-mates through Snapchat which was super helpful in a pinch. For me it was a great purchase, though it over throttles and when it does, it goes into a refresh mode, after logging in you lose notes that you’ve written down. Have a great day!

This is what I did. I got my 12.9 in April 2020 but sold it as it was just too heavy to carry around. Instead I’ve bought the 11” and it’s so much easier to hold in the hand and carry around. Watching your video as I write this and don’t notice the size difference at all. 11” is the perfect size I think.

Now I picked up an Android tablet for $150, now on sale for $130 and it replaces my iPad straight up. iPadOs is a lot more polished than android, tbh, it’s not close. I bought the first iPad Pro as a replace, ent for my Wacom tablet when it came out due to pencil support.
I used it regularly but only as a glorified drawing tablet for about 2 years.
Then my MacBook broke. I was forced to figure out how to use an iPad Pro as my primary device until I could buy a new laptop. Since then, the iPad Pro had remained my primary device. I use my laptop for Ableton but that’s about it.

  • @silverblaize

I bought an iPad for drawing on-the-go. But I hardly use it because, like you said, it feels like a very fragile and vulnerable item that I have to be super careful with, and it's not something you can just toss into a bag and pick up like a regular sketchbook. You could accidentally drop it and break it, or it can get stolen, etc. As a result, I never use it on-the-go as I intended. And I don't really use it at home either because I have a Cintiq and so I'd rather just use that. So I agree that the iPad is an amazing device, but it all depends on how you use it I guess. Perhaps I didn't really need it, yet I still love it and I'm too attached to it to sell it. So I'm stuck with it haha

I bought the 2018 ipad pro a couple years ago and it has been my main "computer" ever since. I do all of my photo editing and video editing on it. I also use it for all the other general tasks like web surfing and note taking. It might be in part due to the fact that my only other computer was an old HP laptop that I've had since around 2012 when I was in college so there was no way that thing could edit any photos or videos from my Sony a6300. There are some minor things I don't like about the ipad but for the most part, it's done most of what I need it to.

i use my ipad for nearly everything when i'm not sitting at a desk. Don't need a laptop for most tasks

So this guy has 30 different PCs and laptops and ps5 and ps6 and 7 phones and 14 cameras. So if you’re like him, yea you probably won’t need an iPad. For the rest of us who can only own 1 or 2 other apple devices yes this this a must

And why do you have to have 1 or 2 apple devices? Why apple?

Ipads are secondary devices. You may say: no, no i can do that, i can do this. Yes ipads are capable for many things. However, the process is not efficient. If you replace your laptop, with an ipad you will be less productive. You will start to consume more time to accomplish almost anywork. Ipados has its own limits, actually big limits. Even it doesnt offer a proper cursor support. That blue circle mimics the touch input.
If you want to boost your productivity with an ipad, use it as a supplementary device. A second screen, a little computer which helps you to do things on your main computer. Than you may notice a difference on your productivity.
So, my advice is:spend wisely. If you have a great laptop, ok purchase an ipad. If your main laptop is old and cranky, invest your main device.

I agree with this! If you have a powerful laptop I don't really see the point and I'm not someone who sits on the sofa and browses the web on an iPad. Really unnecessary for me.

“Why I sold it” only reasonable excuse is “I don’t need a tablet at all anymore” I bought the new s7+ and it feels like the dollar store version of my 2018 iPad Pro. And this is coming from a huge Samsung fanboy/Apple hater. The iPad Pro is just unbelievably good to me, it’s been close to perfect besides the 4 gb and small memory (64 gb for me)

Great content.. i have been tempting to buy ipad pro mostly for the pencil use coz i think i like to draw. But i am so afraid that it would b underuse since that i now own macbook air M1 for my office work (with a bit of photo/video) editing. Guess i just do sketches on good old paper when i feel like doing so

You can't use native OS apps like Premiere Pro or Photoshop (the shitty iPad version doesn't count), you can't play AAA video game titles. You can't expand storage without icloud or dongles. It isnt a desktop replacement unless you want to throw away years of using specific apps to simply "adapt to an iPad". I won't miss it.
