thanks Ken, great info on some of the new re-issues. Regarding your Q, yes the new coltrane was cut from analogue tape, not files. I had never heard the Caramba Lee Morgan title before, did not even know it existed, until I bought the Classic series re-issue.
Thanks , nice to be back to the music. Crescent is one of my personal favorite Coltrane , still looking for OG. Would like to hear comparison of MMJ 45’s for Inner Urge and Destination Out ……thinking about replacing with Classic series. World is crazy ….thanks for your comments and reminding us not to be silent when things are wrong. We need to care about each other!
Nice video. Not having an OG Crescent, I will say that the AP pressing sounds amazing to me as a stand alone. It's a great option for someone not looking to break the bank on a NM OG copy or just wanting to get into Coltrane. And I'm pretty confident all AP Impulse reissues are from tape.
I heard there were pressing issues with Caramba and Inner Urge so I didn't pick them up, hopefully I still have a chance to grab them before they sell out. Great video as always Ken!
@Tables and Tubes My “Inner Urge” had tape print-through or “groove echo” on “El Barrio,” so I sent it back for another copy. My copy of “Caramba” sounds fantastic!
Great to see you back after some time, especially with those titles. I definitely saw the differ in the Lee Morgan reactors, the classic is killer. Joe Henderson is good too, but MMJ is ahead. My McLean blue label RVG has more punch, but the classic is also a great one for the ones who can’t find it. Looking forward to more than reviews, many are coming soon
Great video again! Yes, Caramba sounds really great, I had it nearly every day on my TT since it arrived. I really love the relaxed title track. I had the great luck to find a fantastic sounding mono first pressing of Coltrane's Crescent in NM several years ago for a very reasonable price and it has a laminated cover.
Wonder if that '71 Destination Out would have sounded different/better against the Classic Vinyl if it were the OG pressing (if there was a pre-LIberty-buyout Plastylite press-)
Great to see you again. I would be quite interested in hearing your take on the recently released Bobby Timmons “Soul Man” on Prestige. Half of Miles’ quintet featuring Shorter and Carter made for an interesting date. Almost like a Shorter LP if only a little more oblique. Anyway, great to see you again.
acoustic sound , QRP only press from analog tape ! According to Chad ! No digital ! Unless file is the only way to go! Like John Coltrane A love supreme ,I think Rudy cut them on two different tape s and one was shipped over seas for safety copy !
Overall a nice video though inexplicably the sound was dreadful, thin and hollow, very odd. All good on the BNCs reviews but you should know better than to compare a stereo to a mono. Pretty much all of your preferences are because of the mono presentation. As for not knowing if the AS series are from tape, may I remind you there’s an info sheet in every one. FYI all ASs are cut from tape by RKS and the BNCs are to unless the originals were digital to begin with. Lastly the Crescent cover. Watching this on my tv it was obvious how superior the OG was to the AS, the latter having ugly clipped highlights and horrible skin tone. Like the sound, it’s all in the details Ken.
When you pulled out the Inner Urge, I thought you were going to say the Reissue was better and was already down here ready to disagree, because this is an album where I have an Original and got the Classics reissue, and as soon as I A/B’d them I knew I would never listen to the classics again. The original is so much hotter, the reissue sounds compressed in comparison
THX a lot for the very kind words Ken, means a lot to me!!!
Michael
I hope your wife's family is safe and well, Michael. I can't imagine how your wife and you are coping.
glad to see your videos again , go ahead
Your description of Billy Higgins dancing on his cymbals is why I love your videos.

Thanks Ken, 😎
Terrific video. Inherited the Coltrane "Crescent" from my mom--who played the hell out of it--but sounds like its time to try the re-issue.

Im just doing comparisons. Most people like them. AP does great work

Thanks Lisardo, both sounded great to me.
My Inner Urge has just a bit of non-fill. My copy of the Lee Morgan title is perfect.
Dan
Exactly the same with me tables and tubes

Cool. Maybe mine is laminated? I think the lamination wears down after 50 years or so...
Appreciate your shoutout to Michael at 45RPM.
He’s a good man.
I think Joe Harley is not directly involved in Classic Series , I might be wrong but I think he’s just handling the Tone Poet series
I think you’re correct. I know the series is overseen by the long time blue note publicist, Cem Kurisman

good question
We should even talk more about records, records are culture and this is what is missing. Some people on this planet are more acting like apes.

The takeaway is I agree with you fully! It makes me inclined to believe you on some other reviews of which I don’t have originals of
