Absolutely fantastic reviews! I love your insights. I’ve bought about a dozen of the records you’ve most highly recommended and I love every one of them. So now there are three more I’ll be buying.
The Idris Muhammad record was the one for me to get. Also the Leon Spencer is one that’s interesting. But unfortunately I couldn’t get into Jack DeJohnette his record. Maybe I get it later on, but not for now. Great insightful reviews, thanks😁!
I got to see Idris Muhammad a few times with Nathan Davis Jazz ensembles in Pittsburgh, always really good. I also saw Dejohnette back in 87 when he had new dirwctions album. Great show. Id love to own those, cool to know ECM is reissuing his catalogue. I always liked "I Know" from his Tin Pan Alley lp, but those are all exceptional. Stll getting used to the glasses, but I gotta hand it to you, they are snazzy! Always appreciate your insight!
💯 agree re. relative merits of sleeves. Third Man's Verve reissues were terrible, can only hope the upcoming Blue Note batch are better. Thanks for mentioning the ECM titles, you're the only channel I follow who has bothered!
I splurged on the bundle of all three that Craft offered at a reasonable price. Enjoying all three so far. Solid reviews. Look forward to more episodes.
Really enjoyed this - always learn something new. Picked up the Don Cherry and Kenny Wheeler reissues on ECM, very nice. Have the Woody Shaw and Pharaoh Sanders reissues on preorder. Been listening to Don Pullen Quintet and picked up those Black Jazz label reissues VMP released. Would like to hear that Iris Muhammad LP.
I bought the Leon Spencer album, I really like it, it’s got lots of funky grooves. I need to check out the Muhammad album. I really go for the jazz funk stuff, early seventies is the height of this music. I always look forward to the Jazz Dispensary titles especially the comps they release on RSD.
we've got to understand that customers want all analog sources in the vinyl world. We know the best things are behind us... Why pay good money for less. There are no flying cars, only in science fiction movies. Vinyl/analog sound is one things humans got right and it works. Its a craft each record is actually made. Files.. just press copy and save.
Just remembered that I have this Leon Spencer album and now I want to listen to it again after many many years. but to find it among the odd thousand of records is going to be a job. In my honest very humble opinion, without causing offense, please forgive me, I can tell when a vinyl record has been pressed from a digital file by the way the drums sound. Cardboxy kind of.
Cosmic chicken, new directions, live in Europe, album album, all of the ECM records are great. He did a double album for MCA impulse in the 90s the fantastic.
@@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455 Thank you so much Ken! With your wisdom I will do my due diligence to get and listen to those titles! Greetings from Baltimore!
Glad you got my comment on the low gain on your mic but when you're doing a recording like that in a room at Echo is more than the actual voice so I would suggest trying to be a little closer to the mic or speaking louder I do enjoy the videos
Ken, as one of the most in-tune and respected Jazz “you tubers”, I just noticed that Astrud Gilberto passed away June 5th in Philadelphia. As far as I know, no one has even mentioned it in any video. I don’t do videos but it seems very sad to me that no one has done a tribute. Please, let’s not forget her.😢
Born Leo Morris in New Orleans, Idris Muhammad grew up in the city's 13th Ward in a home next door to a dry cleaner’s shop.[4] He later would claim the sound of the shop’s steam presser influenced his hi-hat technique.[5][6]
That Idris Muhammad record is SO GOOD.

The brainwashing works, even if the drugs don’t
Thats the one I want: The Idris Muhammad. His albums sound amazing.

Hey man really love your channel! Do you ever listen to any International anthem stuff?
Thank you very much. I appreciate that. Ive heard international anthem stuff but nowhere near enough. Thanks for reminding me.
Idris Muhammad was the one for me to pick up, and so glad I did 😎🍻✨
00:05 Wait...What? I thought NYCs 5 boroughs were, UES, UWS, West Village, Chelsea & Soho! 😏
Hi Ken! What’s your favorite Jack DeJonette album?
Cosmic chicken, new directions, live in Europe, album album, all of the ECM records are great. He did a double album for MCA impulse in the 90s the fantastic.

I don't think having a digital stage is as important as LYING.
Could you please try to turn up the gain on your mic when you're doing these videos that would be appreciated
Sorry, I have a new mic. I’m just figuring it out. But thanks for the advice.
Harry Carey? Is that you?
