Such great finds! I'm excited to see what you do with them 😊My great aunt kept all of the things from past generations and we had the honor and blessing to clean out her house when she passed. All that to say, along the lines of finding treasures in old Bibles and books, she had an antique cookbook from my great great aunts, which had numerous treasures stuck between the pages. There were pressed flowers, antique cigarette cards (which is curious because neither one of them smoked 😆) a hand drawn Valentine Card made by my great grandfather, a library card and so much more. We took all of the loveliness out and created a shadowbox with them. It's currently hanging in the entry way of my mama's house 😍Blessing to you, friend!!

You can touch up your picture with powered eye shadow. Just get the colors you need, the eye shadows can be easily mixed like paint to get the colors you need. Just apply with your fingers. If you need pinks or reds, use power blush. For the clouds, you can use eye highlighters. I work at a Victorian home museum and that’s how we restore our pictures.

    • @marlacainraisingcain

😮 I would have never considered eye shadow!! I did get it touched up just using my paints, and it looks really well matched but it wasn't easy getting there! Thanks for that professional tip! 😊👍

Love to see all the little insert pictures of how you vignetted all your finds! What a fun day to go thrifting and shopping with your daughter! I have a miniature blue rocker just like the one on the table behind you. I have a collection of miniature chairs on a shelf in our foyer. I set my little childhood ragdolls and teddy bears on them. Imagine finding that old dustpan tucked up under those shelves...I had one just like that in the early years of married housekeeping. In fact almost everything we set up housekeeping with is vintage now! 😂😜🤣.

Melanie, I love Jesus with every fiber in me, AND I do still have to consciously choose to obey Him! I'm a sinner, standing in the need of prayer, but what is amazing to me is that He never lets me get farther than the length of His arm. He scoops me back up next to his heart as soon as I stop resisting. He is good, and I am trying hard to be a reflection of Him ❤️ 🙌

I adore Olivia's back screened porch and she has it set up so cute. It's magical at night with her string globe lights out there. It was the perfect place to set up Isaac's first birthday party.
I got the Denmark blue plates at a Cheaper Than Dirt store 10+ years ago. It's kind of a closeout store and I bought all they had, pretty cheap.
Jambu shoes feel like little clouds ⛅️ and comfort has become more important than beauty these days, but I think the Jambu styles are so cute! 😊

I rejoice with you that you have your house back. I know you were glad to help your children get on their feet. We have done the same thing with our daughter and her family of 5, but we were in a small 3 bedroom home. I had to ask them to leave after 6 months. I was about to break. I know your creative juices are really flowing after being in survival mode for so long, and we are reaping the benefits! I can see the ideas just swirling around in your brain. We all survived the year of co-habitation by the fact that we rearranged (relocated) my sons from the lower level, and let Liv Ryan & baby have the whole walkout basement. That gave them a big living room, kitchenette, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. It scrunched us up, certainly, and we all sang hallelujah when they found a house of their own 🙌

Ah!! I'm nearly brave enough to do a kitchen tour. I have been taking pictures of the cuter spots but a whole sweeping video has not been something I've done! I always have clutter and a sink full of dishes.
On New Year's Day, Claire (age 3) pushed a stool up to my counter where we had 3 crock pots going and big platters of food, plus all the usual clutter. She solemnly told me, "Miggie, when you have too many things, it's time to give some away. It can be better next time I come." 😄 😆 🤣 She had recently been told to cull out some of her toys, so she passed along her wisdom... if you want to hear unfiltered truth, ask a little kid!!

@@marlacainraisingcain I really liked the picture you found. I'm sure everyone has a myriad of suggestions on how to clean it. But I once cleaned a painting using murphys oil soap. I used a soft cloth and rubbed a small spot. It took the nicotine right off and didn't harm the painting. So I did the whole thing with the Murphys oil soap. Also this is the 2nd time I've heard you mention the yellow kitchen project that has been put on the back burner numerous times due to other projects bumping it to the back burner. I have a "bumped to the back burner" project as well. About 15 years or so ago, I pulled up the linoleum in my dining room/kitchen planning to get new flooring within a couple of months. All these years later when I walk in my kitchen/dining room I am still looking at concrete floors where linoleum used to be. Since then, we've replaced a car, put a fence in the back yard, put in a new heat pump, yada yada yada! Always something that needs doing ahead of the floor. It's just life. I'm use to it. Can't say I love it. But I rarely notice it anymore. I think the Lord will return before mine gets done. And that's okay. Enjoyed hanging out with you this evening. :)

    • @marlacainraisingcain
      @marlacainraisingcain  7 месяцев назад +1

Julieanna, the bumped projects are more common and realistic than the 100% complete homes, I think. I'm ok with admitting it, because I've never claimed to be an interior designer or to have a high-end home. I have a cozy home full of real people and we really live in it and we really pay bills one at a time. I'm glad you found a channel (mine!) that you can see reality mixed with joy and hope and plans. After all, life happens while you're making plans ❤️

That large landscape art is beautiful! I got a little can food tin with handle on it just like yours, must have been from the same manufacture if its a reproduction. 🤷‍♀️ The bunny jelly mold is precious🐇 I know you'll mad the cbad dayc bunny beautiful!😄 I'm not sure what that twin piece is either, but I'm like you..i love old pieces that are just pretty. When they're grouped with other pieces in a little vignette or tucked in other things on a shelf, they're just so pretty, adds so much interest to the space its in. It almost looks like A light switch cover in a way, that one has me stumped. Google lens it, you'll probably find out what it is!! Then let us know, I'm curious😄 It took me forever to find a buttocks basket! I have one that's so old is cracking, but then i have a nice one. I get what you're saying about donating back out. We own A thrift store so i send things there all the time. The store helps support out non profit men's recovery home, we don't shop for it, Its all donations, estate sale left overs, garage/yard sale left overs and house & building clean outs that out guys do when called on. Its A large warehouse building & it stays packed!! Cool idea with the left over fabric softener! I use downy, but i could still do that and stop buying downy fabric freshener spray.. thanks for the tip!😊 I think most of my books are linen covered and 90% are religious rooster. Ohhh goodness the plant urn Is gorgeous!!😮 I LOVE the kids furniture.. I'd love to have a little rocker & a wicker bottom chair. I have a couple of kiss wooden chairs i use for plant stands on my front porch. Love the wood piece..i think i told you i love all wood pieces😁 Honey i will yell out loud if i ever find a copper colored dust pan like that! My mama had one & i'm trying to find things she had. I yelled out in the antique store not long ago when i had a little God wink happen. I looked down on a shelf & there sat a little round Merita fruitcake tin full of really old spools of thread. For as long as I can remember my mama kept that same exact tin full of spools of thread in her sewing machine drawer, with a tomato pin cushion. So I now have that, with my tomato pin cushion🥹 I'm Going to find my dust pan too! I love the cute bonnet! Ohhh wow the Hiawasse river runs real near our or thru the county i live in..McMinn cty Tennessee! Where do you go, what area? My soul sister for sure!!! We love thrifting & antiquing, collecting old things, our grandbabies, rollercoasters, and above all we love Jesus!❤ Google lens the glass bowl! I live just over an hour grin Sevierville, go thru on my way to NC, where I'm Originally from... and never been shopping there🫤 You must live somewhere near me! I'm excited to see your she shed when you get it done! Lol my kitchen had no back backsplash either & i use cutting boards to cover what i can. Ok.. the bible is definitely the best find!! My grandma had one like that! I love my old antique & vintage bibles!! Even my little testiments. My Oldest one is 1921 & 1923.. then i have 1940's and others (can't remember) buy my favorite one i hunted forever..a little chunky leather back bible Ohhh i just love it!! One of my old ones is just falling apart and that's ok too. I have a silver piece that you sit a rectangle casserole dish in and i have my old bibles lined up in it. I collect old hymnals and piano gospel sheet music too. I've framed some of the music sheets out of the old hymnals, one piece in a needlepoint hoop, and antique waxed it all! Girl over the last 4 or 5 videos I've written you an entire book.. ill do my best to be better next time🫣 i just get into everything you say & share!😄 And I enjoy it so so much!! Thank you for reminding of us why we collect & curate our things, and why we need to share. And I needed that prayer more than you could EVER know.. we're going thru a TOUGH season right now, hard choices to be made, terrible things have happened.. but i know Gods got us and there's a reason for it all. But your little blessing and words of wisdom at the end of today's video spoke STRAIGHT to my soul! I don't even know how to describe (without writing a book) how specifically this spoke to me. I just know that only God can do that!! I am letting about 90% of my crafting things go - after the Lord has shown me that it just isn't serving me well in this season of my life. I'm 65, and there's only been one other time in my life that I have had trouble letting something (things) go, but I'm finding this one very emotional. Your words and your sweet loving way of saying them were exactly the encouragement God knew I needed right in this moment. He always has a plan, and His plans are always for our good.
Thank you for being His vessel of cool water to a thirsty sister today. ❤

      Ok, I'm now bawling 😭 🙌
If anything I share ever hits the center of your heart, you can surely give God all the credit. His unfathomable wisdom is able to weave a billion details together in such a way so that what is on my heart is what your heart needs to hear. And He knew you'd be listening today. And he knows your specific needs, before you even know them. I strongly relate to being in a place where you have to let go of something, and your flesh says no but you hear God saying "trust me." I don't know why it takes so many repeated lessons for me to fully walk in that trust, but He is patient and He is good. Whatever He's asking you to give up, He will replace with something far more valuable. Thank you for taking the time to share with me. ❤️ 🙏 🌞

When i use the cone shaped toppers that can be placed on top it melts the candle evenly. Without it the dont melt properly. Its so frustrating!

@marlacainraisingcain1031 sorry Marla that wasn't a good description. Yankee candle makes them to go on your candle to better regulate burning evenly. It truly will burn clean all the way to the bottom. Then I put in the freezer to pop out the remaining wax. Save the lid. Decorate and reuse for storage of...stuff. it is heat resistant to put another candle in. Not pouring a new one. Just add a smaller one?

I Googled it and I've seen those at thrift stores! I had no idea it would make a candle burn evenly, but now I've learned something new!

😆 SPIT 💧 that is hysterical!! I've always said that most of my crafts could be used to identify my DNA, as I tend to lick my finger and use it as a paintbrush 🖌 😅

We have hardwood floors that havent been redone since 2003. We have always had big dogs so the shine is long gone. No point replacing or redoing them until we have no dogs and a life without dogs is no life at all. Whomever buys our house one day can replace the floors. Fortunately, I decorate with prims so the crappy floors suit the aesthetic 😂.

We have raised 5 children on these floors, multiple dogs and many many "extra people." Raising Cain is not kind to wood floors! 😄 I have discovered a product called Zep that I found at Lowe's which puts a gloss on my floors that will last a few months. Way past time to reapply!

That's true. That's when you don't go thrift shopping, but instead gather what you can donate and free up your space. Each person should find their own balance. 😌

I'll be honest, it sounds like you're saying you think I brought in crap to my home, but it's hard to read tone in the typed word... if you'd like to clarify, it might keep me from staying awake wondering what you meant 😉
