My thinking was that when Bode attacked Cal following his ultimatum, that wasn't Bode picking one way or the other, I think he foolishly still thought he could beat Cal and Merrin.
He was a foolish man blinded by fear which are the reasons Jedi didn’t want attachments, a representative to what cal could have become if he lost himself like bode did.
I think Bode’s choices make a little more sense when you factor in the corrupting influence of the dark side. It’s the exact same thing that happened to Anakin when he turned. You start to be controlled by your emotions, acting instead of thinking, you are ruled by fear. That’s why Bode was acting irrationally even though he was clearly beaten. It’s the same as when Anakin attacked Obi Wan even though dude had the high ground. He was deep into his emotions and believing only his power could achieve what he wanted. Classic dark side stuff and why Jedi’s preach detachment so often. The power of the force can corrupt your decision making. As Cere said it is a constant struggle, and a fight Bode lost.
I also think Bode is supposed to be pretty much a foil for Cal. We also see Cal slowly being consumed by the Dark Side. That part of the game shows us how difficult it can be for a Jedi to overcome the Dark Side when it comes to it. The only difference here is Cal had Merrin to pull him back into the light. That is something both Bode and Anakin did not have when they turned. It also shows how when we may feel we are overwhelmed by the darkness, sometimes all we need is an anchor to bring us back to the light.
@@TGGonyoutube Crazy when you think about it. The one who saved Cal from being consumed by the Dark Side is the one who's an expert practitioner of it.
@@TGGonyoutube But Bode and Anakin did have someone to help keep them from being corrupted by the darkside. Anakin had the love of his life,Padme,Obiwan who was his mentor, Ally and brother figure and his soon to be born children Luke and Leia while Bode had his daughter Kota and new found friends and fellow Jedi, Cal,Merrin,Cere, and the other Jedi they all planned to bring to the hidden path. And they unfortunately weren’t enough to keep them from crossing that line
@@darkarrow3683 and that, my friend, is exactly it. They were not enough to pull them back into the light. Both of them had this feeling that they were too far gone. Cal's "too far gone" moment would have been if he ended up killing Denvik, but Merrin happened to keep him from doing it. Anakin's was that fight on Mustafar with Obi wan. Bodes' was when his wife died. Even Kata mentions how he had changed since then.
I think you bring up a good point, but I think Bode knew he had already done too much damage to be kept alive and make things work. The damage was irreversible. I think having him killed was a stronger ending than leaving him alive. It was inevitable. I remember he said to cal something like “when the empire comes, will you be able to protect my daughter?” And Cal couldn’t answer that. Definitely setting up for the 3rd game. Bode was a very interesting character. He did all the things he did to protect his daughter, and he genuinely thought his only choice at the end was to try and kill Cal and Merrin because he most likely believed he’d be thrown in a prison, and someone else would have to take care of his daughter. It was a lose-lose for him at that point, so he chose the one decision (that ended up failing and getting himself killed) to try and kill cal and merrin. No way Cal would let him roam around and do his own thing. It’s very much a Jedi thing to do to offer mercy to Bode, even after everything he did. I’m sure Cal knew he was too dangerous to be left alive, but he still showed mercy. Overall, the game was a 9/10 for me, and depending on how the 3rd game’s story goes, it could be pushed to a 10. LOVED what they set up for the third entry of the trilogy, now we wait and see if they can execute it properly and satisfyingly.
The other reason bode had a right to be worried is that to have the hidden path there means they would have to make more compasses. It would only be a matter of time before the empire got a hold of one when they are fighting the hidden path. It already happened once in the past to Dagon so why wouldn’t it happen again
your question as to why bode didn't give up and just live with them there is because he had been too pulled by the dark side and given into the obsession of tanalorr. throughout the game lots of npcs remind you not to lose yourself to obsession and stay focused on what you really want. they make it sound like its going to be a lesson for cal but i think its actually setting up for why bode can't compromise

I agree with the majority of what you said, but I think it was ultimately a good decision to kill off Bode in the end. I can't imagine that the players would want Bode who betrayed us and killed Cordova to survive the game. When Bode was defeated, he totally fell to the dark side. It's the same thing that happened to Anakin in the prequels actually. The desire to protect someone he loved led to an obsession that led him to the dark side of the force. At least that's how I understand it.
In a way, I thought Bode just didn't believe that Cal would not be able to protect Kata and the hidden path because of him witnessing on what the empire is capable of. Hmmm...I could be wrong but I just think Bode never trusted anyone and wants to do what is best for Kata and isolate themselves in Tanalor that way the empire would never find them.
Bode was sure that "sharing" with the hidden path will eventually bring imperial attention to them, for him the Empire chasing the hidden path all the way to Tanalorr is not an "off chance", it will happen, it's inevitable(he may be proven right in the next game). He doesn't want to cut and run from the Empire only to become a chased by the Empire, sharing with the hidden path is not an option for him, that's what triggered his betrayal in the first place. Sure, it's better than dying, but he didn't expect his blaster to fail when he made his final move.
Bode attacked in the end when given the choice by Cal cause he didn't plan on losing the fight and was gonna continue his plan he didn't do it to just die
