After watching this video twice, I'm simplifying it to 3 processes: (1) Use the cloud analogy to break down your goal into individual tasks (2) Set weekly goals for the best combination of urgency and flexibility (3) Structure your day with the inverted pyramid plan (start with, and spend the most time on, the most important task)

    Personal Notes:
Focus on the input to your goal, rather than outcome. Don't focus on the end result. Use pyramid to plan tasks, it self aligns itself according to deadlines.
Make a cloud that represents your end goal. Then split it into chunks of things that'll make goal come true. Reduce the use of analog methods of productivity.
One week is the most efficient goal to set to achieve familiarity with a certain goal. Such as learning Calculus or video editing.
Set an importance or authority for yourself when learning something new for urgency sake.

Don’t think in terms of input vs goal two tier system ….
      Goal
      Plans
      Habits
Also plan can be longer than 1 week…
You are just reviewing the progress every week to make the adjustment

This is almost identical to the Hyrum Smith/Franklin Covey planning method, except for the “Quadrant 1.5” bit. That was an interesting twist.
Hyrum Smith developed what eventually became the Franklin Planner (after merging with Stephen Covey). He wrote an excellent book called The 10 Natural Laws of Successful Time and Life Management. It’s usually on Amazon and eBay. It goes into the concepts presented here in even more depth.

I think for anything you want to achieve, setting your goal and focus on the input, rather than the output, is genius! It allows you to feel good about the act of doing itself, and the results of it just follow. It doesn’t matter if it happens slow or fast, you give your brain a break from all this pressure and expectation, and in the meantime get a boost of happiness whenever ANY kind of progress happens! Thank you so much for this insight!

Great video. Summary courtesy of Chat GPT:
Planning as a Guiding Tool: Envisioning a future and strategizing steps to achieve it.
Problem with Common Systems: Many people use planning systems that are either too basic or too rigid.
Quadrant Framework: Life activities categorized into four quadrants, with most people fluctuating between urgent, non-important, and important tasks without clear direction.
Focus on Quadrant 2: Emphasizes the importance of tasks that are important but not urgent, as these are key to long-term success.
Creating Quadrant 1.5: A system that breaks down tasks into actionable, practical, and urgent steps that align with long-term goals.
Top-Down Approach: Starting with the end goal and working backwards to determine necessary steps.
Weekly Goal Setting: Setting urgent, achievable goals each week to maintain progress and adaptability.
Inverted Pyramid Method: Prioritizing the most important tasks each day, starting with the most critical.
Flexibility and Adaptation: The importance of adapting plans based on progress and changing circumstances.

@@IAmKrow Honestly, I could talk for hours trying to explain the whole process. Here is the distilled version:
The cloud represents your best or ideal future self. Once you figure out exactly who/what that means to you, reverse engineer how to get there until you have what needs to be done daily to reach it. Just focus on what needs to be done today.
It's going to feel silly and like you're not making any progress, and sometimes, you're going to want to punch that ideal version of yourself in the face, but it actually works.
The next part is prioritising (creating the 1.5 box). Occasionally, you'll lose perspective about what's important. It could be work, family, heartbreak, crises etc.. In those times, it helps to have reminders or mottos to get you back on track. Whatever works for you.
I found this question to be effective: What is going to move the needle today? It cuts through all my bs and gets me back on track.
I hope that helps. Good luck on your journey.

Q: when determining the specific steps to accomplish (both the bigger sub clouds, as well as the individual actions), how do you effectively address one’s lack of knowledge to determine those specific steps (unconscious incompetence)? Put another way, you literally do not know what steps (some or all) to write down? You have a goal in mind (ex. Write a non-fiction book) yet you lack the knowledge and experience to determine the sub clouds and specific rain drops to get there?
That leads into how do you know if you found good, practical advice or useless, non helpful advice to determine those steps?

    • @numiniblog
      @numiniblog 6 месяцев назад +1

Research. And don’t just research it once or for an hour. You have to kind of do it like an algorithm: the more interest you show in seeking this knowledge, the more all pertaining knowledge on the subject is revealed, the more you will see. In the process of researching from people who have actually accomplished the goal you aspire to (this is key) two things will happen: 1. You’ll notice some reoccurring information which means that part is imperative 2. You’ll learn enough to be able to weed out misinformation. From there you start following his systems to build your own path to your goals based off what you’ve learned from others through “research”.
Personally I like to take in different sources when researching. Ex. To write a non fiction novel I’d watch videos of nf writers who’ve already done it (writers are quite forthcoming with helpful information to another/ aspiring writer, probably all the solitude lol), watch videos from literary agents (something you’ll need to get published AND information you’d find out you need through reoccurring themes in research) as they have insight/ perspective a writer likely doesn’t. They can tell you what all LAs look for and how to get their attention because it’s their job. I would then talk to/stalk writers AND readers (again insight/ perspective) in forums they frequently use and FB Groups. Google to see if any groups actually meet in your area. Read blog posts. Maybe books on certain subjects/ methods you need more clarity on. ALWAYS stop researching when you feel like you’re off the learning high. If your mind is numb/ you’re no longer paying attention during your research that means you’ve got the hang of it so stop trying to force your brain to consume more. Now it’s time for ACTION. Go DO IT!
Hope this helps. Happy Level Up!😊

I think this is a good tip. Recently I’ve been trying to schedule my day by the hour and it was so stressful because there was no leniency. If something came up the entire day was ruined. My fears with the weekly goal system, and why I tried scheduling my day out in the first place, is that I feel like on the daily level I’m not sure what to do. Because it’s not urgent enough to me, I just end up playing video games all day. I think I will try weekly goals with daily mini goals that build up to it.

I found this video today 12/20/23, and I can honestly say this information is life-changing for me. I just know it. It is something I have prayed about because I just don't understand how others have reached their goals and dreams and I can't even make basic progress. I never understood strategy or planning, or even proper time management and have generally survived but now it's catching up to me and the distance between who I am and who I wanted to be is no longer sitting well with me. I have tried asking friends how they do it to no avail. The way to decide on your ultimate life goal and the actions to take on a daily basis was just so unclear to me (cloud analogy was helpful). My current system still was vaguely connected concretely to my larger goals. I like how you compared the parts of the "cloud" as ways to assess my progress toward goals. You have a gift for explaining these concepts in an entertaining and understandable way.

What it offered wasn't new information - but the frame/metaphors that you use. Taking the idea of a top-down approach - from the cloud down - is the right way to think of it. Interested in knowing more of what you offer. Thanks!

Really helpful! You are a mind reader. You answered exactly every single question I had! I always stay in quadrant 1, without realising. My goal lies ahead but I end up focussing only on today and tomorrow. This is surely the MOST PRODUCTIVE 'productivity' video.

Very insightful and funny video! I had to stopped it a couple of times (I watched it in 1,5 speed) 'cause I wanted to read all the text in the doodles:) Also saved to it my rewatch list. Will try to do a 2-week-review though, I think it will work better for me. Thanks!

Man, thank you very much for your videos. As I mentioned on another one of them, your art is crazy good. I really admire people who can pull off elaborate editions such as yours. Could you share how you organize your video edits using that inverted pyramid method you mentioned on this video? On my editings I easily get lost or can't focus enough to proceed. Usually, when researching, I get distracted by RUclips itself. 😥

Very good Video. One important thing: go for clouds of medium/easy difficulty. Going to Harvard Med School is a good example, it is a medium difficult aim. Bad clouds would be winning the Noble prize, worse: winning 2 Noble prices. and so on.
